This paper reports on the effect of the substitution of Fe3+ for Cr3+ ions in the spinel lattice of the powders was investigated. Nickel ferrite powders with a NiFe2-xCrxO4 nominal composition (x = 0.0; 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5 mol of the chromium) were synthesized by combustion reaction using urea as fuel. The powders resulting were characterized by XRD, nitrogen adsorption by BET, SEM and Mssbauer spectroscopy (57Fe Mssbauer spectra). The results show that the substitution of the Fe3+ for Cr3+ions increased the crystalline degree of the phase, reduced the superficial area and consequently increased the particle size. The Mssbauer spectra of the samples also confirm the distribution of the particles size by the magnetic properties. Analyze of the spectra Mssbauer gives an estimate of the superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic particles behavior in each sample for several chromium concentrations.

There are cassava varieties that present compounds as carotenoids, beta-carotene, lycopene and minerals important for human and animal health. The present study evaluated the antioxidant activity of the white, yellow and pinkish varieties of Manihot esculenta, by mean of the DPPH test and by the ferrous ion-chelating activity. Furthermore, the total phenols, carotenoids, beta-carotene, lycopene and zinc contents were also determined. Utilizing the DPPH test it was possible to find that extracts of boiled samples presented higher antioxidant activity (89.53% - pinkish) in comparison to the fresh samples (1.97% - white). For the ferrous ion-chelating test, the highest activity was found for the boiled pinkish variety extract (63.43%) and the lowest was for fresh yellow extract (17.34%) the white sample did not present activity. The highest concentration of total phenols and zinc content was obtained for the boiled pinkish variety extract 136.12 mg EAG/g of extract and 0,811ppm, respectively, in the concentration of 1000 g/mL. The pinkish variety presented also higher quantity of pigments, including carotenoid (29.40 g/g), beta-carotene (9.14 g/100g) and lycopene (68.92%). According to the results obtained in this study it was possible to conclude that the yellow and pinkish varieties of M. esculenta present quantity of phenolic compounds and minerals sufficient to attribute the antioxidant activity and may thus contribute to reduce oxidative damage and be used as nutraceuticals or directly ingested in the diet to maintain good health.

O cido Kjico (AK) uma substancia produzida por cepas de Aspergillus sp. Foi isolado pela primeira vez em 1907, atravs do estudo feito a partir do crescimento desse fungo em arroz cozido a vapor. usado na cosmetologia como antioxidante e despigmentante para uso tpico. Atua como um potente antioxidante quelando ons de ferro e os ons de cobre presentes no seu stio ativo da tirosinase impedindo a formao de melanina. O isononanoato de cetoestearila, utilizado na formulao, tem ampla utilizao em cosmticos como cremes protetores de epiderme, cremes de maquiagens, cremes de proteo solar, loes e desodorantes por ser emoliente, no possuir cheiro e toque seco. Os sistemas nanoestruturados, como por exemplo, os sistemas lquidocristalinos aumentam a solubilidade dos princpios ativos incorporados ao sistema e aumentam a solubilidade dos princpios ativos incorporados ao sistema e aumentam a estabilidade e diminuem a toxidade, pois agem como reservatrios e dependendo da interao frmaco-sistema, altera a biodisponibilidade. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver e caracterizar um sistema lquido cristalino constitudo por gua e isononanoato de cetoestearila (leo), e estabilizado com o tensoativo lcool cetlico etoxilado e propoxilado contendo cido kjico avaliando sua estabilidade atravs de estudos de termoanlises

The aim of the present study was to investigate the corrosion resistance in chloride medium of two cylindrical steel samples from civil construction (CA-50 and CA-60). For this purpose, electrochemical measurements were performed in NaCl solution, 4.0 g/L, naturally aerated. According to electrochemical responses, it was observed an active dissolution process at open circuit potential for both steels. In this comparative study, the differences between CA-50 and CA60 were not significant, since the values of polarization resistance estimated by EIS were the same order of magnitude for both types of steel (oscillating between 200 and 500 Ohm). For all evaluated thicknesses of concrete reinforcement, these values ranged between 2 and 9 kOhm, and the lower value was associated with lower thickness, particularly at 7, 21 and 35 days. When these results were compared with those determined for the CA-60, it was found that the layer of concrete reinforcement provide a protection against corrosion in chloride medium at least ten times larger
