Le cancer colorectal est la 3ème cause de décès liée au cancer dans l'Europe de l'Ouest et nécessite une prise en charge pluridisciplinaire. Les thérapies anticancéreuses récentes développées visent à inhiber les voies de signalisation cellulaires responsables de la prolifération des cellules tumorales. L'inhibition de la voie de signalisation cellulaire mTOR, est une stratégie prometteuse. En effet, mTOR est souvent suractivé dans les cellules du cancer colorectal et régule la croissance, la prolifération et la survie cellulaire. De nombreuses études récentes ont démontrés l'importance de l'activité de mTOR dans le développement du cancer colorectal et l'efficacité anti-tumorale des inhibiteurs allostériques de mTOR, telle que la rapamycine. Récemment, une nouvelle classe d'inhibiteur de mTOR, notamment PP242 et NVP-BEZ235, agissant comme inhibiteur ATP- compétitif a été développée. L'efficacité de ces inhibiteurs n'a pas été démontrée dans le contexte du cancer colorectal. Dans cette étude, nous avons comparé l'effet de PP242, un inhibiteur ATP-compétitif de mTOR et NVP-BEZ235, un inhibiteur dual de PI3K/mTOR par rapport à la rapamycine. Nous avons étudié, in vitro, leur effet sur la croissance, la prolifération et la survie cellulaire sur des lignées cellulaires du cancer du colon (LS174, SW480 et DLD-1) et, in vivo, sur la croissance de xénogreffes dans un modèle murin. Nous avons émis l'hypothèse que l'effet des ces nouveaux inhibiteurs seraient plus importants qu'avec la rapamycine. Nous avons observé que le PP242 et le NVP-BEZ235 réduisent significativement et de façon plus marquée que la rapamycine la croissance, la prolifération et la survie cellulaire des cellules LS174T et DLD-1. Ces inhibiteurs réduisent également la prolifération et la survie cellulaire des cellules SW480 alors que celles-ci étaient résistantes à la rapamycine. Nous avons également observé que les inhibiteurs PP242 et NVP-BEZ235 réduisaient la croissance des xénogreffes avec les lignées cellulaires LS174 et SW480. Finalement, nous avons remarqué que l'effet anti-tumoral des inhibiteurs ATP-compétitifs de mTOR était potentialisé par l'U0126, un inhibiteur de MEK/MAPK, souvent activé dans les voies de signalisation cellulaire du cancer colorectal. En conclusion, nous avons observé que les inhibiteurs ATP-compétitifs de mTOR bloquent la croissance de cellules tumorales du cancer colorectal in vitro et in vivo. Ces résultats démontrent que ces inhibiteurs représentent une option thérapeutique prometteuse dans le traitement du cancer colorectal et méritent d'être évalués dans des études cliniques.

The mission of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission is to end discrimination within the state of Iowa. To achieve this goal, the ICRC must effectively enforce the Iowa Civil Rights Act. The ICRA will be as effective as the Commission is in processing complaints of discrimination. The ICRC undertook significant steps forward in improving the timeliness and competency by which complaints of discrimination are processed. The screening unit was increased with special emphasis on improving the quality and quantity of the analysis of the initial screening decisions. The investigative process for nonhousing cases was completely overhauled. The improved process builds on the screening decision and focuses on the issues raised in that decision. The new process will help the ICRC reduce a significant backlog for non-housing cases. Additionally, we revamped the mediation program by moving to an allvolunteer mediation program. Over 20 Iowa lawyers volunteered to help the ICRC resolve complaints through alternative dispute resolution.

Within the last few years correctional research has clearly shown that the working alliance or rapport between correctional officer/staff member and offender is a critical component in reducing recidivism. Some research even attributes up to 40% of offender change or success to this relationship.

An offender reentry grant program funded through the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy supports one reentry coordinator at each of the following institutions: Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility (MPCF), Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and the Clarinda Correctional Facility. The reentry coordinators there engage in a myriad of activities, working with institution educators, counselors and medical personnel, probation/parole officers and counselors, and most importantly the offenders themselves. The program has not been in operation for very long, and only MPCF has operated long enough to be looking at outcomes. The early returns for MPCF show good promise.

In this discussion, after a few general comments, I will propose a systems reading of the intervention so elegantly described by Kaija Puura. I will draw parallels between the therapeutic and the family groups as framing-developing systems and formalize the steps taken by the family toward healing under the influence of the therapist's team. En esta discusión, después de algunos comentarios generales, propongo una lectura sistemática de la intervención tan elegantemente descrita por Kaija Puura. Buscaré paralelos entre los grupos terapéuticos y de familia como sistemas de desarrollo enmarcado y formalizaré los pasos tomados por la familia hacia la cicatrización bajo la influencia del equipo del terapista. Après quelques commentaires généraux, je proposerai dans cette discussion une lecture systémique de l'intervention si élégamment décrite par Kaija Puura. J'établirai des parallèles entre les groupes thérapeutiques et familiaux en tant que systèmes d'encadrement-développement et je formaliserai les étapes de guérison franchies par la famille grâce à l'influence de l'équipe thérapeutique. In dieser Diskussion, werde ich nach einigen allgemeineren Aussagen, eine systemische Lesart der von Kaija Puura so eingängig beschriebenen Intervention vorschlagen. Ich werde darin Parallelen zwischen der therapeutischen und Rahmengebenden Familiengruppen ziehen, und die Schritte der Familien hin zu einer Heilung unter dem Einfluss des Therapeutenteams formalisieren.

What we do: Since 1892, the Iowa Geological and Water Survey (IGWS) has provided earth, water, and mapping science to all Iowans. We collect and interpret information on subsurface geologic conditions, groundwater and surface water quantity and quality, and the natural and built features of our landscape. This information is critical for: Predicting the future availability of economic water supplies and mineral resources. Assuring proper function of waste disposal facilities. Delineation of geologic hazards that may jeopardize property and public safety. Assessing trends and providing protection of water quality and soil resources. Applied technical assistance for economic development and environmental stewardship. Our goal: Providing the tools for good decision making to assure the long-term vitality of Iowa’s communities, businesses, and quality of life. Information and technical assistance are provided through web-based databases, comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, predictive groundwater models, and watershed assessments and improvement grants. The key service we provide is direct assistance from our technical staff, working with Iowans to overcome real-world challenges. This report describes the basic functions of IGWS program areas and highlights major activities and accomplishments during calendar year 2011. The objective of this research was to investigate the application of integrated risk modeling to operations and maintenance activities, specifically moving operations, such as pavement testing, pavement marking, painting, snow removal, shoulder work, mowing, and so forth. The ultimate goal is to reduce the frequency and intensity of loss events (property damage, personal injury, and fatality) during operations and maintenance activities. This report includes a literature review that identifies the current and common practices adopted by different state departments of transportation (DOTs) and other transportation agencies for safe and efficient highway operations and maintenance (O/M) activities. The final appendix to the report includes information for eight innovative O/M risk mitigation technologies/equipment and covers the following for these technologies/equipment: Appropriate conditions for deployment Performance/effectiveness, depending on hazard/activity Cost to purchase Cost to operate and maintain Availability (resources and references)

CMS has established the medicaid Quality Improvement which serves to fulfill the objectives of they Medicaid Quality goal established through the Federal Government Performance and Results At. One of the objectives of the goal calls for the Centers foe Medicare and Medicaid Services to work in partnership with State Medicaid Directors to develop a Nation Medicaid Quality Framework that will articulate broad principles and a common vision of quality for the program.

The Governor’s Office of Drug Policy Control offers the 2013 Drug Control Strategy pursuant to Iowa Code §80E.1. The purpose of the strategy is to describe the activities of the office and other state departments related to drug enforcement, substance abuse treatment and prevention. This report also highlights trends in respect to substance abuse within the state and sets out innovative approaches to reduce drug abuse and its associated damage to society. Finally, the Strategy shows the state funding levels for the various agencies working in this area, as divided among the three areas of emphasis: prevention, treatment and enforcement.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of an anatomic open stabilization procedure. Twenty-three consecutive patients with traumatic, recurrent, anterior glenohumeral instability were managed with a modified open procedure. All had a Bankart lesion. A standardized, true anatomic capsulolabral reconstruction was performed with suture anchors. Two patients were lost to follow-up, and twenty-one were evaluated after 36 months [range, 24-49 months] by an independent observer. Shoulder stability and function were the principal outcome measures. None of the patients had subsequent dislocations. All returned to full working capacity, and 19 reached their previous level of sport activities. The mean loss in active abduction and flexion was 1 degrees, in internal rotation, one vertebral level, and in external rotation, 7 degrees (arm at 90 degrees of abduction). Two patients had a positive anterior apprehension test. No sign of shoulder osteoarthritis was observed. The open anatomic capsulolabral reconstruction provides excellent results and allows the restoration of stability with good function.

The activities of aspartate and alanine transaminase, serine dehydratase, arginase, glutamate dehydrogenase, adenylate deaminase and glutamine synthetase were determined in the stomach and small intestine of developing rats. Despite the common embryonic origin of the intestine and stomach, their enzymes showed quite different activity levels and patterns of development, depending on their roles. Most enzyme activities were low during late intrauterine life and after birth, attaining adult levels with the change of diet at weaning. No arginase activity was found in the stomach and no changes were detected in adenylate deaminase in the stomach or intestine throughout the period studied. Alanine transaminase, serine dehydratase and, to some extent, glutamine synthetase levels, significantly higher in late intrauterine life, decreased after birth, suggesting that the foetal stomach has a transient ability to handle amino acids.
