Proton NMR of (15)N-choline metabolites enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization.

Chemical shifts of protons can report on metabolic transformations such as the conversion of choline to phosphocholine. To follow such processes in vivo, magnetization can be enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). We have hyperpolarized in this manner nitrogen-15 spins in (15)N-labeled choline up to 3.3% by irradiating the 94 GHz electron spin resonance of admixed TEMPO nitroxide radicals in a magnetic field of 3.35 T during ca. 3 h at 1.2 K. The sample was subsequently transferred to a high-resolution magnet, and the enhanced polarization was converted from (15)N to methyl- and methylene protons, using the small (2,3)J((1)H,(15)N) couplings in choline. The room-temperature lifetime of nitrogen polarization in choline, T(1)((15)N) approximately 200 s, could be considerably increased by partial deuteration of the molecule. This procedure enables studies of choline metabolites in vitro and in vivo using DNP-enhanced proton NMR.

The purpose of this document is to provide the General Assembly with information related to FY General Fund estimated receipts and the Governor’s recommendations. This information provides an overall summary of the State budget and is intended to help the General Assembly take a proactive approach toward the budgeting process.

Past and current climate change has already induced drastic biological changes. We need projections of how future climate change will further impact biological systems. Modeling is one approach to forecast future ecological impacts, but requires data for model parameterization. As collecting new data is costly, an alternative is to use the increasingly available georeferenced species occurrence and natural history databases. Here, we illustrate the use of such databases to assess climate change impacts on mountain flora. We show that these data can be used effectively to derive dynamic impact scenarios, suggesting upward migration of many species and possible extinctions when no suitable habitat is available at higher elevations. Systematically georeferencing all existing natural history collections data in mountain regions could allow a larger assessment of climate change impact on mountain ecosystems in Europe and elsewhere.

Das Marzgefallenen-Denkmal. Monumento a los caidos de Marzo

Resumen: Walter Gropius desarrolla entre los años 1920 y 1922 un proyecto de monumento conocido como: Märzgefallenen-Denkmal (Monumento a los caídos de marzo). Se trata de un memorial dedicado a nueve obreros asesinados en Weimar, durante una manifestación en contra del Kapp Putsch (golpe de estado dirigido por Wolfgang Kapp). En el siguiente artículo se analiza la evolución del proyecto y de su implantación a través del análisis de la documentación gráfica de la obra. Observando muy especialmente las adaptaciones que transforman su diseño, condicionado por circunstancias externas. Nos hallamos ante un monumento de un gran valor histórico, político y social; capaz de una gran flexibilidad en la fase proyectual, y en cierto modo vestigio superviviente de todo un siglo. Abstract: Walter Gropius develops between the years 1920 and 1922 a monument known as: Märzgefallenen-Denkmal (Monument to the fallen of March). It is a memorial dedicated to nine workers killed in Weimar, during a demonstration against the Kapp Putsch (coup d'etat led by Wolfgang Kapp). The following article analyzes the evolution of the project and its implementation through analysis of the graphic documentation of the work. Noting especially the changes that transform the design, influenced by external circumstances. This is a monument of great historical, political and social interest; a work of art capable of great flexibility in its design stage, and the surviving vestige of a century.
