Dilemas e hesitações da modernidade tardia e a emergência da sociedade de controle

The objective of this study is to emphasize the fundamental points of the theoretical discussion about late modernity. In the two last decades, authors like Giddens, Beck, Bauman, Sennett and Garland have emphasized the social, historical and theoretical characterization of modernity in the advanced occidental societies. This discussion, despite being indispensable, does not allow the comprehension of the problems of this new stage of occidental capitalism in terms of its technical dimension and social control. The article arguments in favor of the incorporation of analysis of Michel Foucault’s power and stresses its present reality and potential. This author renewed the theoretical possibilities of the human sciences as he criticized a naturalized view of History and historical events. The influence of his works, an analysis of modernity, may be observed in the debate around the crisis of modernity and the emerging society of control. At the same time, his work helps us understand the main dilemmas and hesitations of contemporary societies.

The main objective of this project step is the evolution of scenery matter on the occidental theater media, related to space and technical possibilities of the theatrical building and space on history of contemporary arts. The main point is that scenery must communicate with a specific matter. Something in touch with the plot speeches. Something that makes all the plot elements to communicate. Acting has an specific message to deliver, and that message is what really matter to the viewer of the show. “It’s never late to state that scenery is not a decoration, or just an interior composition. Scenery is not a painting or a sculpture: it’s an integrated art form. To appraise the oral health knowledge of parents and children from the quilombola communities located in the Ribeira Valley, Sao Paulo. Methods Preventive and educational activities in oral health were developed with children in the communities (Andre Lopes, Ivaporunduva, Pedro Cubas and Sapatu) including lectures, guidance on tooth brushing techniques, supervised mass brushing, detection of tooth biofilm and topical application of fluoride. Parents also participated in the activities. They were evaluated on the oral health of their children by means of a standard questionnaire. The water supply of the communities was also analyzed. Results The children participated enthusiastically and responsively in the preventive and educational activities. As to the questionnaires, 56% of parents stated that their children’s oral health was poor and 47.2% of them usually follow up on their children’s oral hygiene until they are approximately six years old, but this follow-up is not frequent. Conclusion We conclude that quilombola parents and children have very little knowledge about oral health. Therefore increased attention to oral health is required in these communities by means of frequent oral health education and promotion.

Eça de Queirós na Gazeta de Notícias (Rio de Janeiro): a função social do jornal

There will be a review on the collaboration of Eça de Queirós in Gazeta de Notícias (Rio de Janeiro-1880-1897), written directly to the Brazilian public. In some of these texts Eça makes reflections on the mediation that the newspaper plays in society, particularly in southern Europe. We believe that in these texts there are manifestations and traits of doctrinal-programmatic nature, metalitterary aspects and also a kind of history of occidental press. These press texts are now gathered in Textos de Imprensa IV – da Gazeta de Notícias, which includes the volume critical edition of the works of Eça de Queirós, coordinated by Carlos Reis. The study of these texts will contribute to the analysis and interpretation of his fiction and journalistic works.
