Note on four Dp-branes at angles

In this note we analyse the dynamical potential of a system of four Dp-branes at arbitrary angles. The equilibrium configurations for various values of the relative angles and distances among branes are discussed. The known configurations of parallel branes and brane-antibranes are obtained at extrema of the dynamical potential.

Search for new physics with jets and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

A search for new physics is presented based on an event signature of at least three jets accompanied by large missing transverse momentum, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1) collected in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. No excess of events is observed above the expected standard model backgrounds, which are all estimated from the data. Exclusion limits are presented for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. Cross section limits are also presented using simplified models with new particles decaying to an undetected particle and one or two jets.

Caminho das águas: proposta para o aproveitamento de um subproduto ictiológico na Reserva Extrativista Mãe Grande de Curuçá, Pará, Brasil

Este estudo visa investigar a possibilidade da ampliação da cadeia produtiva dos recursos pesqueiros em uma Reserva Extrativista, na Amazônia, com foco em melhores perspectivas econômicas à população haliêutica. O eixo central da pesquisa é: até que ponto o extrativismo pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento local da Amazônia, impactando no modo de vida de populações tradicionais, associando inovação tecnológica a um instrumento político, calcado nos preceitos da sustentabilidade. Nesse sentido, o estudo se fundamentou no neoextrativismo como estratégia para a manutenção dos recursos naturais no universo da RESEX e sua relação com a justiça social, segurança ambiental e viabilidade econômica. O objeto da pesquisa é o aproveitamento de um subproduto ictiológico, hoje tratado como descarte na RESEX MGC, PA. A escolha do objeto de estudo recai sobre a necessidade de maior inserção de populações tradicionais em um contexto econômico pela ótica da sustentabilidade, além da relevância sóciopolítica da reserva extrativista: um instrumento de gestão ainda recente, criado no sentido da proteção das bases culturais e naturais de tais populações. Ainda que o Comércio Justo venha apontando sinais de fortalecimento, não se percebeu ações nessa direção. Deste modo, buscou-se caracterizar a cadeia produtiva a partir da pesca artesanal, investigando a viabilidade social, ambiental e econômica da expansão dessa cadeia e oportunidades para a inserção do ictiocouro. Pretende-se contribuir com a reflexão quanto ao neoextrativismo enquanto estratégia para o desenvolvimento local e consolidação das RESEX.

Corrosion-fatigue life of commercially pure titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloys in different storage environments

Statement of problem. Removable partial dentures are affected by fatigue because of the cyclic mechanism of the masticatory system ansi frequent insertion and removal. Titanium and its alloys have been used in the manufacture of denture frameworks; however, preventive agents with fluorides are thought to attack titanium alloy surfaces.Purpose. This study evaluated, compared, analyzed the corrosion-fatigue life of commercially pure titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy in different storage environments.Material and methods. For each metal, 33 dumbbell rods, 2.3 mm in diameter at the central segment, were cast in the Rematitan system. Corrosion-fatigue strength test was carried out through a universal testing machine with a load 30% lon er than the 0.2% offset yield strength and a combined influence of different: environments: in air at room temperature, with synthetic saliva, and with fluoride synthetic saliva. After failure, the number of cycles were recorded, and fracture surfaces were examined with on SEM.Results. ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison rest indicated that Ti-6Al-4V alloy achieved 21,269 cycles (SD = 8,355) against 19,157 cycles (SD = 3,624) for the commercially purr Ti. There were no significant differences between either metal in the corrosion-fatigue life for dry specimens, but when the solutions were present, the fatigue life was significantly reduced, probably because of the product-ion of corrosion pits caused by superficial reactions.

Lê Cycles and Milnor Classes of Compact Hypersurfaces

We determine the relation amongst the global Lê cycles and the Milnor classes of analytic hypersurfaces defined by a section of a very ample line bundle over a compact complex manifold. The key point is finding appropriate expressions for the global Lê cycles and for the Milnor classes in terms of polar varieties. Our starting points are an interpretation of the Lê cycles given by T. Gaffney and R. Gassler, a formula by A. Parusinski and P. Pragacz for the Milnor classes via McPherson’s functor, and a conjecture of J.-P. Brasselet, that we prove, stating that Milnor classes can be expressed in terms of polar varieties. We then use the work by R. Piegne for Mather classes, by J. Schürmann and M. Tibăr for MacPherson’s classes for constructible functions, and by D. Massey for an extension of the local Lê cycles for constructible sheaves.

D’après Greimas (2002), le sens se concrétise par le changement de rythme ou par une oscillation construite dans la linéarité du langage. L’étrange et l’imprévu, considérés comme des événements qui troublent la pratique habituelle d’une vie dans son parcours, entrent ainsi dans le domaine d’études de la sémiotique française. Le sujet a été discuté plus tard par Claude Zilberberg, avec la venue de la sémiotique tensive, pour qui l’appréhension d’un événement se donne dans le survenir. De plus, selon les observations de Greimas, pour la sémiotique, une forme de vie caractérise des manières par lesquelles les individus ressentent et expriment leur compréhension de l’existence à travers des façons de faire, d’être, d’organiser l’espace dans lequel ils vivent, etc. Devant ces présuppositions théoriques, nous analysons le reportage “Eu pego mas não me apego”, publié dans Atrevida, une revue dirigée vers un public féminin dont la tranche d’âge est de 15 à 19 ans, et nous discutons la manière dont l’énonciateur a configuré le simulacre de l’acteur “ado branchée”. Il en ressort que l’énonciateur a utilisé des stratégies verbales et qu’il met ainsi en discours l’idée d’un comportement qui parait transgresseur au niveau de la manifestation, ce que l’on peut caractériser comme un événement. Cependant, on notera la présence de marques textuelles implicites qui rendent possible un discours qui se réfère au comportement féminin traditionnel et qui caractérise une routine.

Sistema Essix MTM: uma alternativa estética para a movimentação

The increased interest in orthodontics by adults has led companies to develop new treatment alternatives that use less visible and more aesthetic orthodontic appliances. The aesthetic aligners stand out among the treatment options that attend these expectations. This paper presented some relevant aspects of these devices, as well as two cases treated with Essix MTM (Dentsply) system, in which all aesthetic and functional objectives proposed treatment have been achieved. The results of this study support the idea that, when properly indicated, aesthetic aligners are a viable treatment option within the clinical routine of the orthodontist.
