The multilayer perceptron network has become one of the most used in the solution of a wide variety of problems. The training process is based on the supervised method where the inputs are presented to the neural network and the output is compared with a desired value. However, the algorithm presents convergence problems when the desired output of the network has small slope in the discrete time samples or the output is a quasi-constant value. The proposal of this paper is presenting an alternative approach to solve this convergence problem with a pre-conditioning method of the desired output data set before the training process and a post-conditioning when the generalization results are obtained. Simulations results are presented in order to validate the proposed approach.

By using the long-wavelength approximation, a system of coupled evolution equations for the bulk velocity and the surface perturbations of a Benard-Marangoni system is obtained. It includes nonlinearity, dispersion, and dissipation, and it can be interpreted as a dissipative generalization of the usual Boussinesq system of equations. As a particular case, a strictly dissipative version of the Boussinesq system is obtained.

A class of shape-invariant bound-state problems which represent two-level systems are introduced. It is shown that the coupled-channel Hamiltonians obtained correspond to the generalization of the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian.

We investigate the thermodynamics of an integrable spin ladder model which possesses a free parameter besides rung and leg couplings. The model is exactly solvable by means of the Bethe ansatz and exhibits a phase transition between a gapped and a gapless spin excitation spectrum. The magnetic susceptibility is obtained numerically and its dependence on the anisotropy parameter is determined. The spin gap obtained from the susceptibility curve and the one obtained from the Bethe ansatz equations are in very good agreement. Our results for the magnetic susceptibility fit well the experimental data for the organometallic compounds (5IAP)(2)CuBr4 . 2H(2)O (Landee C. P. et al., Phys. Rev. B, 63 (2001) 100402(R)) Cu-2(C5H12N2)(2)Cl-4 (Hayward C. A., Poilblanc D. and Levy L. P., Phys. Rev. B, 54 (1996) R12649, Chaboussant G. et al., Phys. Rev. Lett., 19 ( 1997) 925; Phys. Rev. B, 55 ( 1997) 3046.) and (C5H12N)(2)CuBr4 (Watson B. C. et al., Phys. Rev. Lett., 86 ( 2001) 5168) in the strong-coupling regime.

In this paper, we study the flow on three invariant sets of dimension five for the classical Bianchi IX system. In these invariant sets, using the Darboux theory of integrability, we prove the non-existence of periodic solutions and we study their dynamics. Moreover, we find three invariant sets of dimension four where the flow is integrable.

We evaluate the one-loop vacuum polarization tensor for three-dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED), using an analytic regularization technique, implemented in a gauge-invariant way. We show thus that a gauge boson mass is generated at this level of radiative correction to the photon propagator. We also point out in our conclusions that the generalization for the non Abelian case is straightforward.

We contrast four distinct versions of the BCS-Bose statistical crossover theory according to the form assumed for the electron-number equation that accompanies the BCS gap equation. The four versions correspond to explicitly accounting for two-hole-(2h) as well as two-electron-(2e) Cooper pairs (CPs), or both in equal proportions, or only either kind. This follows from a recent generalization of the Bose-Einstein condensation (GBEC) statistical theory that includes not boson-boson interactions but rather 2e- and also (without loss of generality) 2h-CPs interacting with unpaired electrons and holes in a single-band model that is easily converted into a two-band model. The GBEC theory is essentially an extension of the Friedberg-Lee 1989 BEC theory of superconductors that excludes 2h-CPs. It can thus recover, when the numbers of 2h- and 2e-CPs in both BE-condensed and non-condensed states are separately equal, the BCS gap equation for all temperatures and couplings as well as the zero-temperature BCS (rigorous-upper-bound) condensation energy for all couplings. But ignoring either 2h- or 2e-CPs it can do neither. In particular, only half the BCS condensation energy is obtained in the two crossover versions ignoring either kind of CPs. We show how critical temperatures T-c from the original BCS-Bose crossover theory in 2D require unphysically large couplings for the Cooper/BCS model interaction to differ significantly from the T(c)s of ordinary BCS theory (where the number equation is substituted by the assumption that the chemical potential equals the Fermi energy). We carry out a numerical and analytic analysis of the Yang-Lee zeros of the ID Blume-Capel model with periodic boundary conditions and its generalization on Feynman diagrams for which we include sums over all connected and nonconnected rings for a given number of spins. In both cases, for a specific range of the parameters, the zeros originally on the unit circle are shown to depart from it as we increase the temperature beyond some limit. The curve of zeros can bifurcate- and become two disjoint arcs as in the 2D case. We also show that in the thermodynamic limit the zeros of both Blume-Capel models on the static (connected ring) and on the dynamical (Feynman diagrams) lattice tend to overlap. In the special case of the 1D Ising model on Feynman diagrams we can prove for arbitrary number of spins that the Yang-Lee zeros must be on the unit circle. The proof is based on a property of the zeros of Legendre polynomials.

In the present work we study an anisotropic layered superconducting film of finite thickness. The film surfaces are considered parallel to the be face of the crystal. The vortex lines are oriented perpendicular to the film surfaces and parallel to the superconducting planes. We calculate the local field and the London free energy for this geometry. Our calculation is a generalization of previous works where the sample is taken as a semi-infinite superconductor. As an application of this theory we investigate the flux spreading at the super conducting surface.

We study the statistical distribution of quantum energy splittings due to a dynamical tunneling. The system. The annular billiard, has whispering quasimodes due to a discrete symmetry that exists even when chaos is present in the underlying classical dynamics. Symmetric and antisymmetric combinations of these quasimodes correspond to quantum doublet states whose degeneracies decrease as the circles become more eccentric. We construct numerical ensembles composed of splittings for two distinct regimes, one which we call semiclassical for high quantum numbers and high energies where the whispering regions are connected by chaos, and other which we call quantal for low quantum numbers, low energies, and near integrable where dynamical tunneling is not a dominant mechanism. In both cases we observe a variation on the fluctuation amplitudes, but their mean behaviors follow the formula of Leyvraz and Ullmo [J. Phys. A 29, 2529 (1996)]. A description of a three-level collision involving a doublet and a singlet is also provided through a numerical example.

As a new modeling method, support vector regression (SVR) has been regarded as the state-of-the-art technique for regression and approximation. In this study, the SVR models had been introduced and developed to predict body and carcass-related characteristics of 2 strains of broiler chicken. To evaluate the prediction ability of SVR models, we compared their performance with that of neural network (NN) models. Evaluation of the prediction accuracy of models was based on the R-2, MS error, and bias. The variables of interest as model output were BW, empty BW, carcass, breast, drumstick, thigh, and wing weight in 2 strains of Ross and Cobb chickens based on intake dietary nutrients, including ME (kcal/bird per week), CP, TSAA, and Lys, all as grams per bird per week. A data set composed of 64 measurements taken from each strain were used for this analysis, where 44 data lines were used for model training, whereas the remaining 20 lines were used to test the created models. The results of this study revealed that it is possible to satisfactorily estimate the BW and carcass parts of the broiler chickens via their dietary nutrient intake. Through statistical criteria used to evaluate the performance of the SVR and NN models, the overall results demonstrate that the discussed models can be effective for accurate prediction of the body and carcass-related characteristics investigated here. However, the SVR method achieved better accuracy and generalization than the NN method. This indicates that the new data mining technique (SVR model) can be used as an alternative modeling tool for NN models. However, further reevaluation of this algorithm in the future is suggested.

Sudden eccentricity increases of asteroidal motion in 3/1 resonance with Jupiter were discovered and explained by J. Wisdom through the occurrence of jumps in the action corresponding to the critical angle (resonant combination of the mean motions). We pursue some aspects of this mechanism, which could be termed relaxation-chaos: that is, an unconventional form of homoclinic behavior arising in perturbed integrable Hamiltonian systems for which the KAM theorem hypothesis do not hold. © 1987.

We present a compact expression for the field theoretical actions based on the symplectic analysis of coadjoint orbits of Lie groups. The final formula for the action density α c becomes a bilinear form 〈(S, 1/λ), (y, m y)〉, where S is a 1-cocycle of the Lie group (a schwarzian type of derivative in conformai case), λ is a coefficient of the central element of the algebra and script Y sign ≡ (y, m y) is the generalized Maurer-Cartan form. In this way the action is fully determined in terms of the basic group theoretical objects. This result is illustrated on a number of examples, including the superconformal model with N = 2. In this case the method is applied to derive the N = 2 superspace generalization of the D=2 Polyakov (super-) gravity action in a manifest (2, 0) supersymmetric form. As a byproduct we also find a natural (2, 0) superspace generalization of the Beltrami equations for the (2, 0) supersymmetric world-sheet metric describing the transition from the conformal to the chiral gauge.
