On a Class of Self-Adjoint Compact Operators in Hilbert Spaces and Their Relations with Their Finite-Range Truncations

This paper investigates a class of self-adjoint compact operators in Hilbert spaces related to their truncated versions with finite-dimensional ranges. The comparisons are established in terms of worst-case norm errors of the composite operators generated from iterated computations. Some boundedness properties of the worst-case norms of the errors in their respective fixed points in which they exist are also given. The iterated sequences are expanded in separable Hilbert spaces through the use of numerable orthonormal bases.

Geographical catch distribution of yellowfin and skipjack tuna in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, 1967-1970, and fleet and total catch statistics, 1962-1970

ENGLISH: Logbook records of tuna vessels fishing in the eastern Pacific Ocean were used to prepare charts showing the distribution of yellowfin tuna and skipjack catches by i-degree area, by quarter of the year, and by gear, for the years 1967-1970. Recent changes in the geographical distribution of yellowfin catch are illustrated. Also given are annual catch statistics and the composition of the international tuna fishing fleets which operated in the Commission's Yellowfin Regulatory Area each year, 1962-1970. Se ilustran los recientes cambios en la distribución geográfica de la captura del atún aleta amarilla. ENGLISH: Logbook records of purse seiners and baitboats fishing for yellowfin and skipjack tunas in the eastern Pacific Ocean were used to prepare charts showing the distribution of catches by l-degree area and quarter of the year for each gear and regulation status, for the years 1971-1974. Changes in geographical distribution of the catch over the four-year period are discernible. Information on annual catch statistics and fleet composition by country is presented. SPANISH: Los registros de bitácora de los cerqueros y clíperes (barcos de carnada) que pescan atún aleta amarilla y barrilete en el Océano Pacífico oriental se emplearon para preparar los diagramas en los que se indica la distribución de las capturas por área de 1 grado y trimestre, correspondiente a cada arte y condición reglamentaria en los años de 1971 a 1974. Se pueden distinguir los cambios en la distribución geográfica de la captura durante el período de cuatro años. Elastic deformation of soft membrane with finite thickness induced by a sessile liquid droplet

In this paper, the role of vertical component of Surface tension of a droplet on the elastic deformation of a finite-thickness flexible membrane was theoretically analyzed using Hankel transformation. The vertical displacement at the Surface was derived and can be reduced to Lester's or Rusanov's solutions when the thickness is infinite. Moreover, some Simulations of the effect of a liquid droplet on a membrane with a finite thickness were made. The numerical results showed that there exists a saturated membrane thickness of the order of millimeter, when the thickness of a membrane is larger than such a value, the membrane can be regarded as a half-infinite body. Further numerical calculations for soft membrane whose thickness is far below the saturated thickness were made. By comparison between the maximum vertical displacement of an ultrathin soft membrane and a half-infinite body, we found that Lester's or Rusanov's solutions for a half-infinite body cannot correctly describe Such cases. In other words, the thickness of a soft membrane has great effect on the surface deformation of the ultrathin membrane induced by a liquid droplet. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
