Hidrocarbonetos policíclicos aromáticos como traçadores da queima de cana-de-açúcar: uma abordagem estatística

In this study atmospheric particulates of PAHs were measured in Araraquara, Piracicaba and São Paulo in July 2003 (sugarcane harvest season in Araraquara and Piracicaba) and in Araraquara in March of 2003. The results were normalized to the total PAH concentrations. Comparison among the sites and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to investigate possible tracers of emission. Fluoranthene and pyrene concentrations were higher in Piracicaba and Araraquara samples. These PAH were also responsible for the largest negative loadings on the second principal component and account for the negative scores and for the formation of the Araraquara and Piracicaba group.

Kuukautiskokemuksen kulttuurinen rakentuminen suomalaisten, vuosina 1959-1977 syntyneiden naisten kuukautiselämäkerroissa

Tutkimuksen kohteena on kuukautiskokemuksen kulttuurinen rakentuminen suomalaisten, vuosina 1959-1977 syntyneiden naisten kuukautiselämäkerroissa. Tutkin millaisia kuukautiskokemuksia naisilla on sekä miten ja suhteessa keneen tai mihin nämä kokemukset muotoutuvat. Tarkastelen myös millaisia kulttuurisia käsityksiä kuukautisista naisten kokemukset ilmentävät. Ymmärrän kuukautiskokemuksen tutkimuksessani elämänkulkuun liittyvänä historiallisena prosessina, jonka kautta ihmisestä tulee subjekti, joka sosiaalisena yksilönä kiinnittyy häntä ympäröivään kulttuuriin, kieleen ja maailmaan. Tarkastelen mikrohistorian näkökulmasta yksilön tapaa hahmottaa henkilökohtaista kuukautiskokemusta suhteessa omaan kokemushistoriaansa ja sen sosiokulttuurisen ympäristön historiaan, jossa hän elää. Haastattelemani naiset ymmärtävät kuukautiset sekä fysiologisena ruumiin toimintona että kokemuksellisena tapahtumana. Vaikka lääketieteellinen tietämys kuukautisista on lisääntynyt 1900-luvun aikana nopeasti, ei kuukautisten fysiologinen tunteminen ole edelleenkään kaikille naisille kovin merkityksellinen asia. Fysiologisesti kuukautiset ovat naisille merkki ruumiin normaalista toiminnasta ja hedelmällisessä iästä olemisesta. Naisten kuukautiskokemus ei ole yksi, vaan se muuttuu niin kutsuttujen avainkokemusten kohdalla samanaikaisesti kun yksilölle muotoutuu uusi sosiaalinen rooli, jonka myötä häneen kohdistuvat sosiaaliset odotukset muuttuvat. Avoimissa teemahaastatteluissa tuotetuissa kuukautiselämäkerroissa haastateltavat nimesivät kuukautiselämän avainkokemuksiksi ensimmäiset kuukautiset, kuukautisten kanssa sinuiksi tulon, raskaudet ja imetyksen, lapset tehty mitäs nyt -vaiheen sekä vaihdevuosien tulon tiedostamisen. Naiselle on tärkeää pystyä läpi kuukautiselämän säilyttämään itsenäisen, aktiivisen toimijan rooli, ja tähän hän tarvitsee tietoa ja toimintaohjeita jokaisen uuden avainkokemuksen kohdalla. Naisen kuukautiskokemuksen muotoutumiseen vaikuttavat useat merkittävät sekä yksityisen että julkisen alueen toiset. Nainen vertaa kuukautiskokemustaan näihin toisiin, saa heiltä tietoa kuukautisista ja elää kuukautisarkea heidän tai niiden kanssa. Kuukautiselämäkerroissa häpeän tunne läpäisee koko elämänkaaren. Kulttuurisesti kuukautisten tulee olla näkymättömät, huomaamattomiksi kätketyt. Vaikka kuukautisiin liittyvä nolouden ja häpeän tunne on syvällä kulttuurisessa kokemusmaailmassa ja naisen kuukautiskokemukseen vaikuttavat kulttuuriset tekijät ovat historiallisesti hyvin hitaasti muuttuvia, on kulttuurisessa ilmapiirissä havaittavissa jonkin asteista muutosta avoimempaan suuntaan.

We would like to introduce our group of research, [CONTRA TAEDIUM], created by professionals from different fields, that have contributed in this article. Our purpose is to expose our reflections based on our own experiences, not only in research, but also in teaching. We propose new forms of writing history in order to understand the dairy life of the women and men of the past, from birth to death. We would like to point out that interacting all types of sources is essential to understand our history. But, what really makes sense is to bring our students in the historical methodology and involve them in their education. Moreover, it is necessary to design new teaching materials using the new technologies, although it requires team-work and a great, but satisfying, effort

Nowadays, fribromialgya is one of the nervous diseases with the highest comorbidity and chronic index. The peculiarity of this symptomatology is becausephysiological pain goes to different parts of the body. The symptomatology of fribromialgya and hysteria could have relation between them and even, sharing many similar simptoms. Therefore, we will focus on studyng two cases to resolve these questions and we will be able to see if fibromialgya has histerical symptoms.

O ensino da química na Escola Superior de Agricultura "São Bento", Olinda - São Lourenço da Mata - Pernambuco (1912-1936)

The present work proposes the investigation of the role of chemistry in the curriculum of the Higher School of Agriculture "São Bento" (1912-1936) and its function in the education of agronomic engineers. The circumstances under which the Higher Schools of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Olinda were founded at the beginning of the XXth century are discussed. The article further treats the influence of the principles of Justus von Liebig, which were seen at that time as essential for a rational agriculture.

Infraestructuras y desarrollo económico en España, 1860-1936

Durante el último medio siglo se ha producido un movimiento constante de aproximación entre las economías que hoy forman la Unión Europea. Tan sólo algunas escasas y pasajeras vacilaciones han enturbiado un proceso que ha sido intenso y persistente. El fenómeno en sí mismo ha constituido la mejor confirmación de la teoría del crecimiento neoclásica, según la cual, cuando un conjunto de economías con rasgos estructurales relativamente similares inicia un proceso de integración, es de esperar un movimiento de convergencia entre sus niveles de renta per cápita. Sin embargo, la experiencia de este pasado inmediato contrasta con momentos más remotos en el tiempo, en los cuales el incremento de intercambios entre las economías europeas no se tradujo en absoluto en una aproximación mutua. A lo largo del medio siglo anterior a la Primera Guerra Mundial, a pesar de la intensa profundización en sus relaciones, las economías europeas adolecieron de una marcada incapacidad para converger entre sí. La economía española, en concreto, mantuvo inalterada su distancia relativa con respecto a los países más desarrollados de Europa y fue incapaz de adelantarse mínimamente en la carrera del crecimiento.

Les TIC aplicades a la història de la infermeria

La cerca d'informació i el pensament crític són competències transversals que es consideren bàsiques per als estudiants universitaris. Aquestes dues competències s'han pogut desenvolupar en el marc d'una activitat denominada cerca i lectura crítica de documents històrics, que es va incloure dins dels crèdits pràctics de l'assignatura Història de la Professió. Les tasques consistien a fer una cerca bibliogràfica a través de les bases de dades més habituals per la Infermeria, obtenir un document històric, fer-ne una lectura crítica i confeccionar un informe escrit. Presentem l'activitat que es va oferir a tots els alumnes de segon semestre d'Infermeria (grups M6 T6), la seva metodologia i els resultats de la seva implementació, que mostren un grau molt elevat de satisfacció en l'alumnat i la seva utilitat en el foment de la lectura crítica.

Dies Irae, la seqüència perdurable : anàlisi i comparació de diferents lectures de la seqüència gregoriana en la història de la música

La seqüència gregoriana Dies Irae s'ha convertit en un material musical àmpliament utilitzat per compositors per dotar d'un significat concret a la seves obres. Però a mesura que han passat el segles es pot determinar que l'objectiu que han tingut els compositors en voler incloure una referència a aquesta seqüència ha variat notablement. En aquest treball tracto de demostrar quins canvis hi ha hagut segons l'època i el compositor, ja sigui des del punt de vista conceptual com des del punt de vista tècnic tot analitzant obres de moments i estils diferents, parant atenció a sis obres concretes que o tenen importància a causa de la seva influència o la seva singularitat. Alhora, exposo com tot això m'ha influït per compondre obres que estiguin relacionades amb el Dies Irae i amb la música al voltant de la mort.

In 1638, the countess of Chinchón contracted a disease while in the Amazon rain forest and was healed by a potion used by the native inhabitants. In 1856, William H. Perkin while attempting to obtain synthetic quinine, discovered the mauveína, a molecule that changed the world. The synthesis of quinine was also the subject of a bitter controversy among two excellent scientists of the 20th century. During centuries, quinine was the only hope against malaria disease and its exploration almost extinguished the Cinchona tree.

Irradiação de micro-ondas aplicada à síntese orgânica: uma história de sucesso no Brasil

This review article shows the publications in the field of microwave irradiation published by Brazilian researchers over the past 10 years. In South America, Brazil leads the publication of articles with the use of microwave irradiation possessing a large advantage in number of articles published over the others countries. The works were divided into four major areas: Catalysis, Reactions without Solvent, Heterocycles Chemistry, Natural Products and Other, and some could be classified in more than one category.

Estatística aplicada à química: dez dúvidas comuns

Ten common doubts of chemistry students and professionals about their statistical applications are discussed. The use of the N-1 denominator instead of N is described for the standard deviation. The statistical meaning of the denominators of the root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC) and root mean square error of validation (RMSEV) are given for researchers using multivariate calibration methods. The reason why scientists and engineers use the average instead of the median is explained. Several problematic aspects about regression and correlation are treated. The popular use of triplicate experiments in teaching and research laboratories is seen to have its origin in statistical confidence intervals. Nonparametric statistics and bootstrapping methods round out the discussion.

Efeitos da história térmica nas propriedades do polímero pet: um experimento para ensino de análise térmica

Polyethilenetherephtalate (PET) is commonly used in manufacturing of beverage bottles representing a didactic appeal in thermal analysis education due to its presence in the student's day life. Additionally such polymer presents well defined thermal analytical curves and a well known thermal behavior. TGA curve is used to present the thermal stability. The thermal history effects in the thermal properties of a PET sample from a soft drink bottle are used to demonstrate the effect of different heating/cooling conditions on glass transition, melting, crystallization and crystalline degree using DSC curves.

Investigando a presença da história da ciência em livros didáticos de Química Geral para o ensino superior

This paper aims at analyzing the history of science content of three general chemistry textbooks used in Brazilian universities: the translations of Kotz and Treichel's Chemistry & Chemical Reactivity, Atkins and Jones's Chemical Principles, and Garritz and Chamizo's Química. Results revealed different trends for the inclusion of history of science in chemistry teaching. Kotz & Treichel and Atkins & Jones used history mainly as curiosity and ornament. Garritz & Chamizo adopted the historical approach as one of the organizing axis of their textbook. Nevertheless, the historical content of the three textbooks may be criticized from current historiographical standpoint.
