University Hall in 1877

Jenison, Edward S., architect. Typed and attached to verso: North Wing or Mason Hall, part of which is visible at the left, wasthe first university building, erected in 1841. South Wing or South College, at the right, was built in 1849. The central section was completed in 1873. University Hall contained offices of administration, a large auditorium, and classrooms. It was razed in 1951.

University Hall Auditorium

Jenison, Edward S., architect. University Hall was built in 1872; the auditorium completed in 1873. Prior to this time there was no place on campus where students and faculty could assemble. New opera seats were put in during Christmas 1896 at the same time the new dome was installed. On verso: University Hall -- 133 feet wide, 140 long, seating capacity about 3000. Jordan & Anderson, architect (1863); Spier & Rohns (1898). The old Law Building was renamed Haven Hall in 1933. It became one of the main buildings for LS&A used by Departments of History, Sociology and Journalism. The old Law Library became a study hall and Bureau of Government Library. Extension Division also had offices in Haven Hall.
