RESUMO A mancha bacteriana do tomateiro, causada por quatro espécies de Xanthomonas pode provocar perdas significativas na produção da cultura e a utilização de biofertilizantes na proteção de plantas tende a reduzir a incidência de doenças. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito dos biofertilizantes no controle preventivo e curativo da mancha bacteriana do tomateiro. Para o controle preventivo da doença, plantas de tomate cultivar Santa Cruz Kada, com 3 a 4 folhas foram pulverizadas com os biofertilizantes (Soil-Set, Agro-Mos e Cop-R-Quick) e água (testemunha); e dois dias após foram inoculadas por aspersão com a suspensão bacteriana nas concentrações 109 UFC mL-1 (OD550=0,5) e 106UFC mL-1, com o isolado UFU A35 de Xanthomonas sp. Para o controle curativo, as plantas foram inoculadas com a suspensão bacteriana, e dois dias após foram pulverizadas com os biofertilizantes e água. A severidade da mancha bacteriana foi avaliada usando uma escala diagramática; aos 3, 5, 8, 11 e 14 dias após a inoculação e calculada a área abaixo da curva de progresso de doença (AACPD). O controle preventivo foi mais eficiente no manejo da mancha bacteriana do tomateiro, e os diferentes biofertilizantes reduziram a severidade da doença.

Yhdistelmämetsäkone on metsäkone, jota voidaan käyttää sekä hakkuukoneena että kuormatraktorina. Konetta voidaan käyttää sekä puiden kaatamiseen, karsimiseen ja katkomiseen että puiden kuormaamiseen ja kuljettamiseen. Tässä diplomityössä suunnitellaan uusi kouran ja hakkuupään pikalukitusmekanismi yhdistelmämetsäkoneen kuormaimeen. Suunnittelutyössä edetään vaiheittain järjestelmällisen tuotesuunnittelun periaatteiden mukaisesti. Tärkeimpänä tavoitteena suunnittelutyönsä on nopeuttaa kouran vaihtoa ja helpottaa kuljettajan työtä. Suunnittelutyön alkuvaiheessa etsitään lukitusmekanismille useita eri ratkaisuvaihtoehtoja, joista valitaan paras jatkokehitykseen. Valittua ratkaisuvaihtoehtoa kehitetään simulointia ja elementtimenetelmälaskentaa apuna käyttäen.

Sähköiset palvelut ovat tulleet keskeiseksi osaksi Lappeenrannan seudun opiskelija-asuntosäätiön (LOAS) sisäistä ja ulkoista tiedottamista. Tiedon nopea saatavuus ja yksinkertainen käytettävyys ovat avainasemassa kehitettäessä uusia järjestelmiä. Uuden sukupolven käyttäjät ovat tottuneet tiedon saatavuuden helppouteen, joten tiedon tulee olla selkeästi esillä ja siihen on päästävä käsiksi nopeasti. Diplomityön tavoitteena oli tutkia ja kehittää LOAS:n sisäisiä ja ulospäin asiakkaille tarjottavia sähköisiä palveluita. Kehitettävät palvelut olivat intranet, Internet-sivut ja Maestro Opas-asiakashallinta. LOAS:n palvelut on hajautettu usean eri ohjelman välille, joten se aiheuttaa ongelmia informaation siirrossa järjestelmien välillä. Työssä sähköisten palveluiden käytettävyyttä parannettiin lyhentämällä polkuja ja koostamalla palveluita kokonaisuuksiksi. Työn lopputuloksena LOAS:llä on käytössään yksinkertaisemmat Internet-sivut ja selkeämpi intranet-näkymä. Palveluiden käytettävyyden ja vaikuttavuuden arviointi suoritettiin itsenäisenä perehtymisenä ongelmakohtiin ja henkilöhaastatteluina. Haastatteluilla kartoitettiin käyttäjien palvelun tarpeita, jonka avulla kehitettävät kohteet pystyttiin määrittelemään. Palveluiden käytettävyyttä parantamalla asukkaita pyritään ohjaamaan tarjottavien palveluiden piiriin. Tällöin asukkaille tarjottavien palveluiden laatua pystytään parantamaan. LOAS:n tulisi kuitenkin tarkastella erilaisia ratkaisuja toimintojen yhdistämiseen. Tämän avulla asukkaiden kaikki liikkuminen pystyttäisiin käsittelemään yhden ohjelman avulla.

Tutkielmassa selvitetään, voiko yrityksen taloudellista menestymistä ennustaa yritystutkimuksen avulla. Tutkielman aineistona on 30 heikon riskiluokan ja 30 hyvän riskiluokan omaavan yrityksen yritystutkimusraporttia. Konkurssista varoittavat tekijät on jaettu varhaisiin ja myöhäisiin varoittajiin. Varhaiset varoittajat liittyvät yrityksen reaaliprosessiin, esimerkkinä huono liikkeenjohto. Myöhäiset varoittajat ovat tilinpäätösanalyysiin perustuvia tunnuslukuja. Tässä tutkielmassa muuttujina käytetään toimitusjohtajan koulutusta, kokemusta, omistusosuutta sekä yrityksen kasvua strategiselta pohjalta ja reaalisesti. Tilinpäätöksen tunnusluvuista käytetään nettotulosta, rahoitustulosta, omavaraisuusastetta ja quick ratiota. Tutkielman perusteella voidaan todeta, että yrityksen taloudellista menestymistä ei voida ennustaa valituilla kvalitatiivisilla muuttujilla, mutta tilinpäätöksen tunnusluvut ennustavat yrityksen menestymistä.

This study presents an evaluation of a pilot multistage filtration system (MSF) with different dosages, 131 mg L-1 and 106 mg L-1, of the natural coagulant extracted from Moringa oleifera seeds in pre-filtration and slow filtration stages, respectively. The system was comprised by a dynamic pre-filter unit, two upflow filters in parallel and four slow filters in parallel, and in one of the four filters had the filter media altered. The performance of the system was evaluated by monitoring some water quality parameters such as: turbidity, apparent color and slow filter load loss. The stages that have received the coagulant solution had better treatment efficiency compared with the steps without it. However, the direct application of the coagulant solution in the slow filter caused rapid clogging of the non-woven blanket and shorter career length.

The cassava leaf, waste generated in the harvest of the roots, is characterized by high content of protein, vitamins and minerals; however, its use is limited due to the high fiber content and antinutritional substances, which can be removed by obtaining protein concentrates. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate protein extraction processes, aiming the use of cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta Crantz) as an alternative protein. Four methods were tested: 1) Coagulation of Proteins by Lowering the Temperature, 2) Extraction by Isoelectric Precipitation, 3) Solubilization of Proteins and 4) Fermentation of Filter Leaf Juice. To obtain the concentrates, the use of fresh or dried leaves and extraction in one or two steps were also evaluated. The solubilization of proteins (method 3) showed a higher extraction yield; however, with concentrate of low quality. The fermentation of the juice (method 4) produced concentrates with higher quality and lower costs and the isoelectric precipitation (method 2) promoted the obtention of concentrates in less time, both with good prospects for use. The use of two extraction steps was not advantageous to the process and there was no difference between the use of fresh or dried leaf, and the use of fresh leaves is presented as a good option for the simplicity of the method.

Small cell carcinoma of the esophagus is a rare tumor described to the first time by Mckeown in 1952. Clinically it is very similar to small cell carcinoma of the lung. with quick evolution and early dissemination.It is more frequent in men between 60 and 70 years of age. The patients usually have dysphagia and weight loss. Most of the tumours arise in the middle and distal third of the esophagus. Chronic alcohol and tobacco use are usually present. The manegement of primary small cell cancer of the esophagus remains controversial with groups reporting treatment based on operation alone, local radiotherapy, chemotherapyalone, or operation with adjuvant therapy. Overall survivel remains poor at a mean of 5.1 months, with the best rate of survivel in patients undergoing operation with adjuvant chemotherapy. The authors relate two cases of a small cell carcinoma of the esophagus. Both of these patients was female and white, with 51 and 64 years old. The first mainestation was dysphagia and weight loss. Histologic study from endoscopic biopsies reveled the diagnosis. The treatment was, in the both cases surgery, however in one case, chemotherapy and mediastinal irradiation was associated to the ressection. The authors comment the more important aspects about this pathology and the treatment and survival of the patients.

Kiinnostus energia-asioiden käsittelemiseen alueellisesti yksittäisen rakennuksen asioiden käsittelyn sijaan on lisääntynyt voimakkaasti viime vuosina. Keskustelu alueellisesta ener-gia-asioista on kuitenkin vasta alussa ja alueellisiin energiatarkasteluihin tarvitaan työväli-neitä. Tämän työn päätavoitteena oli luoda alueellinen energiatasemalli, jolla voidaan laskea alueen rakennuskannan energiankulutusta ja -tuotantoa sekä energiantuotannon hiilidi-oksidipäästöjä helposti ja nopeasti. Työssä perehdyttiin alueellisten energiatarkasteluiden tämän hetken tasoon, työvälineisiin ja ohjeistukseen. Myös Suomen rakentamismääräyskokoelman rakennusten energiatehok-kuusmääräyksiin tutustuttiin. Alueellisen energiatasemallin perustana käytettiin uusien rakentamismääräysten E-lukulaskennan ohjeistusta. Mallin toimivuutta testattiin Helsingin Salmenkallioon rakennettavaan uudisrakennusalueeseen. Testattaessa mallilla laskettiin kyseisen alueen energiankulutus sekä erilaisia energiantuo-tantovaihtoehtoja ja todettiin, että erityisesti energiankulutuksen laskenta on hyvin helppoa, kun alueen rakennusten kerrosalat ovat tiedossa. Tuotantopuolen uusiutuvan energian laskeminen luotettavasti vaatii hiukan enemmän taustatyötä, mutta varsinainen mallin käyt-täminen on helppoa ja tulokset saadaan suoraan selkeinä kuvaajina. Työssä onnistuttiin luomaan tavoitteiden mukainen malli, jota voidaan soveltaa erilaisissa alueellisissa energiatarkasteluissa. Tarkasteltaessa energia-asioita alueellisesti, saadaan esimerkiksi alueen huipputehon tarvetta pienennettyä ja energiantuotantoa optimoitua. Malli ei kuitenkaan ole vielä valmis laskentatyökalu, vaan vaatii jatkokehitystä, mikäli sitä halutaan hyödyntää laajemmin.

The objective of this study and paper was to find out how the strategic change management readiness in organizations can be evaluated. Based on theory and prior CMP model, the framework of strategic change management and issues related to it was constructed. Additionally a synthesis of the most important phases and interventions in strategic change process and project was created. These phases were starting point, planning, implementation and evaluation and securing phases. Qualitative approach was utilized in the empirical part of the study due to the need for in-depth information about the topics surveyed through semi-structured interview. There were 18 responders from the top management of large Finnish companies. In this study interventions, strengths and weaknesses during the various phases of strategic change projects were revealed. Additionally the interviewees’ opinion on the importance of each of the interventions in strategic change project success was asked. According to this study, the most important phases recognized through researching theoretical literature, prior CMP model and empirical information in starting point phase were analysis of current and desired state and need for change accompanied with guiding coalition formulation. In planning phase the most important interventions were project organization formulation, action plan creation, analysis of prior and current strategic change projects and organizational structure analysis. In the change project implementation phase the interventions of importance were launch, quick wins, sense of urgency creation, change resistance management and change communications. In the final evaluation and securing phase project evaluation was the most important intervention. Based on the results a tool for creating change management readiness profile was created.

Tämän tutkielma tutkii omakotitalojen hintadynamiikkaa Suomessa 1985Q1-2009Q2 välisenä aikana. Tarkoituksena on luoda pitkänaikavälin tasapainomalli sekä lyhyenajan vektorivirheenkorjausmalli, jonka avulla voidaan selvittää asuntojen hintojen mukautumisnopeus kohti tasapainotilaa. Pitkänajan tasapainomallin mukaan omakotitalojen hintaan vaikuttavat eniten kotitalouksien käytettävissä olevat tulot sekä suhteellinen velkaantuneisuus. Koron merkitys jäi mallissa suhteellisen pieneksi. Sekä tulot että velkaantuneisuus vaikuttavat omakotitalojen hintaan positiivisesti. Asuntojen hintojen mukautumisnopeus kohti tasapainotilaa on kohtalaisen nopeaa. Mallin mukaan Suomessa ei ole havaittavissa selvää asuntojen hintakuplaa.

Videolaparoscopic surgery has been used for treatment of almost all surgical abdominal diseases, mainly where there are no large ressections, or operative field is limited. In these situations, laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of less morbidity, quick recovery and good cosmetic results. Bezoars removal, or its mobilization, is probably included in these possible proceedings. Three non-laparotomic procedures were described: 1. endoscopic-laparoscopic; 2. videolaparoscopy and mobilization of intestinal bezoar to the cecum; 3. laparoscopy and gastrotomy for bezoar removal, through suprapubic incision or the umbilical punction. There have been only two publications describing the videolaparoscopic method for bezoar removal, and the methods applied can be complications or morbidity related. We describe one case where the applied technique is simple and easy to perform, time saving and probably less complications-related. This technique, with four trocars, utilized a plastic bag besides the stomach to be opened, followed by gastrotomy, bezoar removal and immediate introduction in the plastic bag, suture of gastrotomy and removal through the left subcostal trocar. This technique was feasible and easy to perform, with short operative time, and there were no intra or post-operative complications; the patient was discharged in the second post-operative day, and is without further problems after one year follow-up. We believe that this could be an adequate technique to perform laparoscopic gastric bezoar removal, and the rigid sequence of operative events allows a quick procedure, with minimal contamination. The videolaparoscopy seems to be an adequate access to surgical treatment of gastro-intestinal bezoars, with or without obstruction, and should be the ellected the procedure of choice to begin the surgical treatment, with convertion to laparotomy in case of any intra-operative adversity.

Diplomityö tehtiin kiinteistö- ja toimitilajohdon palveluita tarjoavalle suomalaiselle rakennusalan yrityksen liiketoimintalinjalle. Työn lähtökohtana oli kehittää kyseiselle liiketoimintalinjalle toimintaa ohjaava ja yhtenäistävä toimintajärjestelmä. Työ koostuu johdannosta, teoriaosuudesta, empiriaosuudesta sekä johtopäätöksistä. Johdannossa esitellään työssä käytettävät menetelmät sekä kohdeyritys. Teoriaosuudessa puolestaan esitellään myöhemmin työn empiriaosuudessa hyödynnettävät teoriakokonaisuudet. Teoriaosuus koostuu kiinteistötoimialan esittelystä, laatuajattelusta sekä prosessijohtamisen läpikäynnistä. Empiriaosuus sisältää selvityksen kohdeyrityksen lähtötilasta ja suoritetusta kehitystyöstä. Kehitystyö sisältää sanallisen ja kuvallisen selvityksen rakennetun toimintajärjestelmän eri vaiheista. Työn tuloksena syntyi kiinteistö- ja toimitilajohdon palveluille käyttökelpoinen, toimintaa tukeva ja toiminnan johtamista helpottava työkalu. Toimintajärjestelmä kehitettiin yhdessä yksikön avainhenkilöiden kanssa, jolloin sen rakentamisessa saatiin huomioitua tulevien käyttäjien toiveita. Toimintajärjestelmässä on keskitetysti muun muassa toiminnan edellyttämät tiedot ja dokumentit.

Bleeding remains a common and a potential lethal complication for peptic ulcer disease. Multidisciplinary approach by endoscopists, surgeons and intensive care physicians is necessary to improve results for this severe complication. In this article we intend to introduce surgeons and intensive care physicians to endoscopic concepts and maneuvers commonly used in the treatment of bleeding peptic ulcer disease. Early clinical assessment and endoscopic evaluation are helpful to classify the severity of the bleeding episode. Two major achievements have changed the management of this complication: combined endoscopic therapy and proton pump inhibitors. The former consists of combining two different endoscopic methods to stop bleeding or prevent re-bleeding (e.g., injection of a sclerosing substance and thermal coagulation). Surgical treatment for peptic ulcer bleeding is indicated when endoscopic therapy fails or to prevent re-bleeding in high risk patients who presents with a spurting bleeding ulcer and shock. For the remaining situations, there are consistent evidences that a second endoscopic therapy should be attempted when re-bleeding occurs. Chemical coagulation is commonly used in raw water and wastewater treatment plants for the destabilisation of pollutants so that they can be removed in the subsequent separation processes. The most commonly used coagulation chemicals are aluminium and iron metal salts. Electrocoagulation technology has also been proposed for the treatment of raw waters and wastewaters. With this technology, metal cations are produced on the electrodes via electrolysis and these cations form various hydroxides in the water depending on the water pH. In addition to this main reaction, several side reactions, such as hydrogen bubble formation and the reduction of metals on cathodes, also take place in the cell. In this research, the applications of electrocoagulation were investigated in raw water treatment and wastewater applications. The surface water used in this research contained high concentrations of natural organic matter (NOM). The effect of the main parameters – current density, initial pH, electric charge per volume, temperature and electrolysis cell construction – on NOM removal were investigated. In the wastewater treatment studies, the removal of malodorous sulphides and toxic compounds from the wastewaters and debarking effluents were studied. Also, the main parameters of the treatment, such as initial pH and current density, were investigated. Aluminium electrodes were selected for the raw water treatment, whereas wastewaters and debarking effluent were treated with iron electrodes. According to results of this study, aluminium is more suitable electrode material for electrocoagulation applications because it produces Al(III) species. Metal ions and hydroxides produced by iron electrodes are less effective in the destabilisation of pollutants because iron electrodes produce more soluble and less charged Fe(II) species. However, Fe(II) can be effective in some special applications, such as sulphide removal. The resulting metal concentration is the main parameter affecting destabilisation of pollutants. Current density, treatment time, temperature and electrolysis cell construction affect the dissolution of electrodes and hence also the removal of pollutants. However, it seems that these parameters have minimal significance in the destabilization of the pollutants besides this effect (in the studied range of parameters). Initial pH and final pH have an effect on the dissolution of electrodes, but they also define what aluminium or iron species are formed in the solution and have an effect on the ζ-potential of all charged species in the solution. According to the results of this study, destabilisation mechanisms of pollutants by electrocoagulation and chemical coagulation are similar. Optimum DOC removal and low residual aluminium can be obtained simultaneously with electrocoagulation, which may be a significant benefit of electrocoagulation in surface water treatment compared to chemical coagulation. Surface water treatment with electrocoagulation can produce high quality water, which could be used as potable water or fresh water for industrial applications. In wastewater treatment applications, electrocoagulation can be used to precipitate malodorous sulphides to prevent their release into air. Technology seems to be able to remove some toxic pollutants from wastewater and could be used as pretreatment prior to treatment at a biological wastewater treatment plant. However, a thorough economic and ecological comparison of chemical coagulation and electrocoagulation is recommended, because these methods seem to be similar in pollutant destabilisation mechanisms, metal consumption and removal efficiency in most applications.

Unsuccessful mergers are unfortunately the rule rather than the exception. Therefore it is necessary to gain an enhanced understanding of mergers and post-merger integrations (PMI) as well as learning more about how mergers and PMIs of information systems (IS) and people can be facilitated. Studies on PMI of IS are scarce and public sector mergers are even less studied. There is nothing however to indicate that public sector mergers are any more successful than those in the private sector. This thesis covers five studies carried out between 2008 and 2011 in two organizations in higher education that merged in January 2010. The most recent study was carried out two years after the new university was established. The longitudinal case-study focused on the administrators and their opinions of the IS, the work situation and the merger in general. These issues were investigated before, during and after the merger. Both surveys and interviews were used to collect data, to which were added documents that both describe and guide the merger process; in this way we aimed at a triangulation of findings. Administrators were chosen as the focus of the study since public organizations are highly dependent on this staff category, forming the backbone of the organization and whose performance is a key success factor for the organization. Reliable and effective IS are also critical for maintaining a functional and effective organization, and this makes administrators highly dependent on their organizations’ IS for the ability to carry out their duties as intended. The case-study has confirmed the administrators’ dependency on IS that work well. A merger is likely to lead to changes in the IS and the routines associated with the administrators’ work. Hence it was especially interesting to study how the administrators viewed the merger and its consequences for IS and the work situation. The overall research objective is to find key issues for successful mergers and PMIs. The first explorative study in 2008 showed that the administrators were confident of their skills and knowledge of IS and had no fear of having to learn new IS due to the merger. Most administrators had an academic background and were not anxious about whether IS training would be given or not. Before the merger the administrators were positive and enthusiastic towards the merger and also to the changes that they expected. The studies carried out before the merger showed that these administrators were very satisfied with the information provided about the merger. This information was disseminated through various channels and even negative information and postponed decisions were quickly distributed. The study conflicts with the theories that have found that resistance to change is inevitable in a merger. Shortly after the merger the (third) study showed disappointment with the fact that fewer changes than expected had been implemented even if the changes that actually were carried out sometimes led to a more problematic work situation. This was seen to be more prominent for routine changes than IS changes. Still the administrators showed a clear willingness to change and to share their knowledge with new colleagues. This knowledge sharing (also tacit) worked well in the merger and the PMI. The majority reported that the most common way to learn to use new ISs and to apply new routines was by asking help from colleagues. They also needed to take responsibility for their own training and development. Five months after the merger (the fourth study) the administrators had become worried about the changes in communication strategy that had been implemented in the new university. This was perceived as being more anonymous. Furthermore, it was harder to get to know what was happening and to contact the new decision makers. The administrators found that decisions, and the authority to make decisions, had been moved to a higher administrative level than they were accustomed to. A directive management style is recommended in mergers in order to achieve a quick transition without distracting from the core business. A merger process may be tiresome and require considerable effort from the participants. In addition, not everyone can make their voice heard during a merger and consensus is not possible in every question. It is important to find out what is best for the new organization instead of simply claiming that the tried and tested methods of doing things should be implemented. A major problem turned out to be the lack of management continuity during the merger process. Especially problematic was the situation in the IS-department with many substitute managers during the whole merger process (even after the merger was carried out). This meant that no one was in charge of IS-issues and the PMI of IS. Moreover, the top managers were appointed very late in the process; in some cases after the merger was carried out. This led to missed opportunities for building trust and management credibility was heavily affected. The administrators felt neglected and that their competences and knowledge no longer counted. This, together with a reduced and altered information flow, led to rumours and distrust. Before the merger the administrators were convinced that their achievements contributed value to their organizations and that they worked effectively. After the merger they were less sure of their value contribution and effectiveness even if these factors were not totally discounted. The fifth study in November 2011 found that the administrators were still satisfied with their IS as they had been throughout the whole study. Furthermore, they believed that the IS department had done a good job despite challenging circumstances. Both the former organizations lacked IS strategies, which badly affected the IS strategizing during the merger and the PMI. IS strategies deal with issues like system ownership; namely who should pay and who is responsible for maintenance and system development, for organizing system training for new IS, and for effectively run IS even during changing circumstances (e.g. more users). A proactive approach is recommended for IS strategizing to work. This is particularly true during a merger and PMI for handling issues about what ISs should be adopted and implemented in the new organization, issues of integration and reengineering of IS-related processes. In the new university an ITstrategy had still not been decided 26 months after the new university was established. The study shows the importance of the decisive management of IS in a merger requiring that IS issues are addressed in the merger process and that IS decisions are made early. Moreover, the new management needs to be appointed early in order to work actively with the IS-strategizing. It is also necessary to build trust and to plan and make decisions about integration of IS and people.
