SiO in G34.26: Outflows and shocks in a high mass star forming region

We have looked for SiO emission as evidence of shocks in the high mass star formation region G34.26+0.15. JCMT, VLA and FCRAO observations show that SiO emission is widespread across the region. The SiO emission highlights a massive, collimated out ow and other regions where stellar winds are interacting with molecular clumps. As in other star forming regions, there is also SiO at ambient velocities which is related to the out ow activity. No strong SiO abundance enhancement was measured in either the out ow or the low velocity gas, though abundances up to 10(-8) are possible if the SiO is locally enhanced in clumps and optically thick. SiO emission is not detected from the hot core itself, indicating either that SiO is not strongly enhanced in the hot core or that column densities in the region where grain mantle evaporation has taken place are low. In line of sight spiral arm clouds, we measure a SiO abundance of 0.4-2 x 10(-10), consistent with previous estimates for quiescent clouds.

Pío Collivadino was a highly recognized painter in life, occupying the most important charges in the artistic field and receiving awards in his country and abroad, which turned him into an inescapable reference of young Argentinean artists who earned recognition throughout the twentieth century. Why, then, with the time, his work began to fall to the wayside? In response to this question, the present article, based on the analysis of the work of that artist, proposes to problematize the notion of subjectivity, both in its individual dimension and its national character, underlining the role that the figure of the artist meets for its formation. Developing the concepts of light-color and body-mass, from Collivadino painting, this article will attempt to explain the relation between the emergence of an Argentinean subjectivity, at the beginning of 20th century, and the art, not only at the level of the issues addressed, but, especially, taking into consideration its formal characteristics.

Mass transfer correlation in flotation of palm oil by colloidal gas aphrons

Colloidal gas aphrons (CGAs) are micron-sized bubbles, which are produced by stirring a dilute surfactant solution at a high speed. In this work, CGAs have been used to clarify oily wastewater by flotation technique. The CGAs sparging rate was a critical factor that governed the efficiency of the process. A model for the determination of the mass transfer coefficient is also developed for the purpose of process design.

Rapid confirmatory method for the determination of sixteen synthetic growth promoters and bisphenol A in bovine milk using dispersive solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

A rapid liquid chromatographic-tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS/MS) multi-residue method for the simultaneous quantitation and identification of sixteen synthetic growth promoters and bisphenol A in bovine milk has been developed and validated. Sample preparation was straightforward, efficient and economically advantageous. Milk was extracted with acetonitrile followed by phase separation with NaCl. After centrifugation, the extract was purified by dispersive solid-phase extraction with C18 sorbent material. The compounds were analysed by reversed-phase LC-MS/MS using both positive and negative ionization and operated in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode, acquiring two diagnostic product ions from each of the chosen precursor ions for unambiguous confirmation. Total chromatographic run time was less than 10 min for each sample. The method was validated at a level of 1 mu g L-1. A wide variety of deuterated internal standards were used to improve method performance. The accuracy and precision of the method were satisfactory for all analytes. The confirmative quantitative liquid chromatographic tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS/MS) method was validated according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. The decision limit (CC alpha) and the detection capability (CC beta) were found to be below the chosen validation level of 1 mu g L-1 for all compounds. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Towards Surface Plasmon Resonance biosensing combined with bioaffinity-assisted nano HILIC Liquid Chromatography Time-of-flight Mass Spectrometry identification of Paralytic Shellfish Poisons

The potential for coupling technologies to deliver new, improved forms of bioanalysis is still in its infancy. We review a number of examples in which coupling has been successful, with special emphasis on combining surface-plasmon-resonance biosensors with mass spectrometry. We give an overview of current progress towards combining biosensor-based bioanalysis with chemical analysis for confirmation of paralytic shellfish poisons that are marine toxins. This comprehensive approach could be an alternative to the official methods currently used (e.g., animal testing and high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection) and could serve as a model for many more such applications. Effective monitoring for ractopamine residues in samples of animal origin by SPR biosensor and mass spectrometry

Ractopamine (RCT) is a member of the beta-2-agonist (beta-agonist) family. It is licensed for use as an animal growth promoter in more than 20 countries worldwide, including the United States and Canada, but is either not licensed or prohibited by over 150 others, including those within the European Union. The issue of the use of RCT in livestock bound for human consumption has risen to prominence recently following the decision by The People's Republic of China to ban the import of pork from a number of processing plants after finding traces of RCT in shipments from the U.S.A.
