El alineamiento modal en el preámbulo de reuniones por videoconferencia

En el presente artículo se introduce el concepto de alineamiento modal, un fenómeno interactivo característico del preámbulo de reuniones por videoconferencia, en las que la interacción puede llevarse a cabo a través del chat escrito, la imagen y la voz. Con tal propósito, se parte del modelo de interacción de Erving Goffman y la metodología del Análisis de la Conversación (AC). A través de una selección de ejemplos extraídos de un corpus de dieciocho interacciones por Adobe Connect 7.0, el análisis muestra que la selección del canal, dentro del contexto analizado, constituye un recurso para el alineamiento y la (re)configuración del marco de participación de las reuniones. Asimismo, se sugiere que dicho recurso es utilizado por los participantes como estrategia para gestionar la orientación recíproca y la toma de turno durante los preámbulos.

Time cumulative complexity modeling and analysis for space-based networks

In this paper, the notion of the cumulative time varying graph (C-TVG) is proposed to model the high dynamics and relationships between ordered static graph sequences for space-based information networks (SBINs). In order to improve the performance of management and control of the SBIN, the complexity and social properties of the SBIN's high dynamic topology during a period of time is investigated based on the proposed C-TVG. Moreover, a cumulative topology generation algorithm is designed to establish the topology evolution of the SBIN, which supports the C-TVG based complexity analysis and reduces network congestions and collisions resulting from traditional link establishment mechanisms between satellites. Simulations test the social properties of the SBIN cumulative topology generated through the proposed C-TVG algorithm. Results indicate that through the C-TVG based analysis, more complexity properties of the SBIN can be revealed than the topology analysis without time cumulation. In addition, the application of attack on the SBIN is simulated, and results indicate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed C-TVG and C-TVG based complexity analysis for the SBIN.

SAT-GRD: An ID/Loc split network architecture interconnecting satellite and ground networks

Since the satellite network plays an irreplaceable role in many fields, how to interconnect it with the ground network has received an unprecedented attention. However, with much more requirements imposed to the current terrestrial network, many serious problems caused by the IP dual-role exposed. In this context, their direct interconnection seems not the most appropriate way. Thus, in this paper, SAT-GRD, an incrementally deployable ID/Loc split network architecture is proposed, aiming to integrate the satellite and ground networks efficiently. Specifically, SAT-GRD separates the identity of both the host and network from the location. Then, it isolates the host from the network, and further divides the whole network into core and edge networks. These make SAT-GRD much more flexible and scalable to achieve heterogeneous network convergence and avoid problems resulting from the overloaded semantics of IP addresses. In addition, much work has been done to implement the proof-of-concept prototype of SAT-GRD, and experimental results prove its feasibility.

The MARS (Media Asset Retrieval System) Project is the collaborative effort of public broadcasters,libraries and schools in the Puget Sound region to create a digital online resource that provides access to content produced by public broadcasters via the public libraries. Convergence ConsortiumThe Convergence Consortium is a model for community collaboration, including organizations such as public broadcasters, libraries, museums, and schools in the Puget Sound region to assess the needs of their constituents and pool resources to develop solutions to meet those needs. Specifically, the archives of public broadcasters have been identified as significant resources for the local communities and nationally. These resources can be accessed on the broadcasters websites, and through libraries and used by schools, and integrated with text and photographic archives from other partners.MARS’ goalCreate an online resource that provides effective access to the content produced locally by KCTS (Seattle PBS affiliate) and KUOW (Seattle NPR affiliate). The broadcasts will be made searchable using the CPB Metadata Element Set (under development) and controlled vocabularies (to be developed). The MARS Project is funded by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) Television Future Fund. They meet regularly to consider collaborative efforts that will be mutually beneficial to their institutions and constituents. Specifically, the archives of public broadcasters have been identified as significant resources that can be accessed through libraries and used by schools, and integrated with text and photographic archives from other partners.Using the work-centered framework, we collected data through interviews with nine engineers and observation of their searching while they performed their regular, job-related searches on the Web. The framework was used to analyze the data on two levels: 1) the activities and organizational relationships and constrains of work domains, and 2) users’ cognitive and social activities and their subjective preferences during searching.

Media rituals in Eusébio’s exequies

While celebrating collective representation, the media can be seen as spaces of ritualization that are fundamental to the consolidation of wider social values. In this paper we give an empirical frame to the concept of “media rituals” considering it as an entrenched symbolic practice that could be traceable in Eusébio’s exequies television broadcasting. Three sorts of media rituals are identified: rituals dealing with immediacy, rituals dealing with collective prominence and rituals dealing with the revelation of reality. Each media ritual exemplifies how a space of comprehensive ritualization is erected. It is through this generalized and mediated ritualization that the idea of a major social occurrence is refreshed and worked through.

Impacto de la innovación tecnológica en las estrategias de YouTube y Google

El concepto de administración ha venido cambiando constantemente a través del tiempo y de las ideologías de diferentes autores que han marcado dicho concepto, en donde se ha podido establecer de mejor forma el significado que ésta ciencia tiene con la innovación y la estrategia. El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar los fundamentos teóricos de la administración, la innovación y la estrategia, para así mostrar los alcances e impactos que estos tienen en las organizaciones visitadas durante la misión empresarial al Silicon Valley, principalmente a YouTube y Google. Para cumplir con dicho objetivo se realizaron encuestas a diferentes trabajadores pertenecientes a las organizaciones, obteniendo así, información valiosa para el estudio realizado. Con la información obtenida de la entrevistas, se logró recopilar información pertinente que permitió concluir que la innovación es un pilar fundamental para el buen funcionamiento de las empresas pertenecientes al Silicon Valley y así mismo ser base indispensable para la creación y formulación de las principales estrategias de las empresas.

Sistema público de comunicación en Brasil: el camino hacia la garantía del

 Uno de los derechos humanos fundamentales, el derecho a la comunicación, no está garantizado para todas las personas en Brasil y no forma parte del debate en los medios de comunicación ni se encuentra entre las preocupaciones de la sociedad. Aunque la legislación nacional prohíba el monopolio y el oligopolio, los medios están en manos de pocos y la mayoría de la población se encuentra marginada en el proceso de la producción y la divulgación de la información asumiendo el papel de simple consumidora de noticias. Apartada del acceso a la participación de la comunicación pública a través de los medios, tiene igualmente restringida su libertad de expresión y de elección. Hechos que comprometen no solo derechos individuales y colectivos, sino también la propia consolidación de la democracia brasileña. Un largo camino han recorrido las organizaciones sociales que defienden y exigen el derecho humano a la comunicación. Como uno de los resultados de esta labor, se realizó recientemente la primera Conferencia Nacional de Comunicación, donde estas cuestiones fueron discutidas, mientras una serie de propuestas fueron aprobadas con la participación de representantes del gobierno, de las empresas de comunicación y de la sociedad civil. Entre las proposiciones está la organización y el fortalecimiento de un sistema público de comunicación percibido como una de las más importantes estrategias de democratización de la comunicación. El desarrollo de un sistema público, por sus características diferenciadas de gestión, gobernanza y financiación, se presenta, por lo tanto, como un gran paso para garantizar el derecho humano a la comunicación en el país. Communication is a fundamental right, but it’s not guaranteed to all people in Brazil. Even worse: it’s not even part of the debate in most media nor it is a priority issue amongst society. Even though national laws forbid monopoly and oligopoly in media, most communication companies are owned by few people and most of the population is excluded in the process of producing and broadcasting information – becoming mere news consumers. People have no access to participation in public communication and has also their freedom of speech restricted by media. This problem not only jeopardizes individual and collective rights, but also impedes the consolidation of Brazilian democracy. Social organizations have been struggling to defend and demand communication rights. As a result of this work, Brazil has recently promoted the first National Communications Conference, where these issues were discussed and many propositions were approved with the participation of government, communication corporations and organized civil society representatives. The organization and the strengthening of a communications public system – one of the most important strategies for communication’s democracy - was one of the approved propositions. The development of a public system, with its different forms of management, governance and funding, presents itself as a great step towards the enforcement of communication rights in the country.
