The influence of mother-child interactions on preschoolers' eating and weight.

The investigation of maternal and child factors influencing the socialization of children’s eating and weight, including the validation of an observational coding system for assessing dyadic mother-child feeding interactions, revealed a range of shared maternal and child mealtime behaviors potentially associated with preschoolers’ willingness to accept parent’s healthful feeding guidance.

Intimate partner violence in pregnancy: planning and pregnancy monitoring

The intimate partner violence (IPV) in pregnancy results in risk factors with an impact on maternal and fetal health. There is a tendency to unwanted pregnancies, unplanned and poor adherence to health services, increasing the risk of complications during pregnancy. The aim is describe the prevalence rates of IPV during pregnancy in the Central Region of Portugal and analyse their association with pregnancy planning and frequency of prenatal consultations. There was prevalence of IPV during pregnancy with a significant association to pregnancy planning. Although most women have attended prenatal consultations in the last pregnancy, the late start is associated with the probability of frequency of some type of IPV.

Prenatal education: profile and expectations of the couples.

Develop the capacities of women/couples to stay healthy during pregnancy, becoming aware of the rights, needs and potential problems of maternal and newborn health is a challenge for nurses and midwives who work with this population (Departamento de Reducir los Riesgos del Embarazo 2010). Prenatal education is a good strategy to meet the needs of pregnant women/couples, to improve outcomes in health and community development (Svenson, Barclay & Cooke 2006). Knowing the profile and expectations of the participants in these prenatal education groups, improves the quality of prenatal education programs and enables higher qualification of the professionals who promote them.
