Continuous sensor stream data are often recorded as a series of discrete points in a database from which knowledge can be retrieved through queries. Two classes of uncertainties inevitably happen in sensor streams that we present as follows. The first is Uncertainty due to Discrete Sampling (DS Uncertainty); even if every discrete point is correct, the discrete sensor stream is uncertain – that is, it is not exactly like the continuous stream – since some critical points are missing due to the limited capabilities of the sensing equipment and the database server. The second is Uncertainty due to Sampling Error (SE Uncertainty); sensor readings for the same situation cannot be repeated exactly when we record them at different times or use different sensors since different sampling errors exist. These two uncertainties reduce the efficiency and accuracy of querying common patterns. However, already known algorithms generally only resolve SE Uncertainty. In this paper, we propose a novel method of Correcting Imprecise Readings and Compressing Excrescent (CIRCE) points. Particularly, to resolve DS Uncertainty, a novel CIRCE core algorithm is developed in the CIRCE method to correct the missing critical points while compressing the original sensor streams. The experimental study based on various sizes of sensor stream datasets validates that the CIRCE core algorithm is more efficient and more accurate than a counterpart algorithm to compress sensor streams. We also resolve the SE Uncertainty problem in the CIRCE method. The application for querying longest common route patterns validates the effectiveness of our CIRCE method.

BACKGROUND Monitoring body temperature is essential in veterinary care as minor variations may indicate dysfunction. Rectal temperature is widely used as a proxy for body temperature, but measuring it requires special equipment, training or restraining, and it potentially stresses animals. Infrared thermography is an alternative that reduces handling stress, is safer for technicians and works well for untrained animals. This study analysed thermal reference points in five marine mammal species: bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus); beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas); Patagonian sea lion (Otaria flavescens); harbour seal (Phoca vitulina); and Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens). RESULTS The thermogram analysis revealed that the internal blowhole mucosa temperature is the most reliable indicator of body temperature in cetaceans. The temperatures taken during voluntary breathing with a camera held perpendicularly were practically identical to the rectal temperature in bottlenose dolphins and were only 1 °C lower than the rectal temperature in beluga whales. In pinnipeds, eye temperature appears the best parameter for temperature control. In these animals, the average times required for temperatures to stabilise after hauling out, and the average steady-state temperature values, differed according to species: Patagonian sea lions, 10 min, 31.13 °C; harbour seals, 10 min, 32.27 °C; Pacific walruses, 5 min, 29.93 °C. CONCLUSIONS The best thermographic and most stable reference points for monitoring body temperature in marine mammals are open blowhole in cetaceans and eyes in pinnipeds.

Eighty per cent of the world's population professes religious belief. Such beliefs provide precepts on how individuals should conduct their private lives and (often) how society should be organized. Given there are 2.1 billion Christians worldwide and 1.3 billion Muslims, understanding the religious approach to social life based on sacred texts and social teachings of Christianity and Islam has a strong relevance to those interested in implementing international economic development policies. This paper argues that religion can thus play a positive role in development and specifically support development economic policies at the international level. The purpose of this paper is not to present a fully formed development economic policy, but rather to identify teachings of the world's two largest religions – such as preferencing the poor, minimizing inequality and having the economy serve wider realms of society – that directly speak to how sustainable economic development is understood within these faith traditions and how these teachings could scaffold and support and international policy frameworks aimed to achieve sustainable economic development.
