We present a general class of solutions to Einstein's field equations with two spacelike commuting Killing vectors by assuming the separation of variables of the metric components. The solutions can be interpreted as inhomogeneous cosmological models. We show that the singularity structure of the solutions varies depending on the different particular choices of the parameters and metric functions. There exist solutions with a universal big-bang singularity, solutions with timelike singularities in the Weyl tensor only, solutions with singularities in both the Ricci and the Weyl tensors, and also singularity-free solutions. We prove that the singularity-free solutions have a well-defined cylindrical symmetry and that they are generalizations of other singularity-free solutions obtained recently.

We derive a Hamiltonian formulation for the three-dimensional formalism of predictive relativistic mechanics. This Hamiltonian structure is used to derive a set of dynamical equations describing the interaction among systems in perturbation theory.

We introduce a new parameter to investigate replica symmetry breaking transitions using finite-size scaling methods. Based on exact equalities initially derived by F. Guerra this parameter is a direct check of the self-averaging character of the spin-glass order parameter. This new parameter can be used to study models with time reversal symmetry but its greatest interest lies in models where this symmetry is absent. We apply the method to long-range and short-range Ising spin-glasses with and without a magnetic field as well as short-range multispin interaction spin-glasses.

Congress established the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) with passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which authorized $40 billion for the SCHIP program through Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2007. Under the program, a federal block grant was awarded to states to provide health insurance to children from families with income about Medicaid eligibility levels.

An exact solution of the Einstein equations in vacuum representing two pairs of gravitational solitons propagating on an expanding universe is given and studied. It is suggested that the solitons evolve from quasiparticles to pure gravitational waves. Two of the four solitons collide and the focusing produced on null rays is studied. Although the spacetime following the collision is highly distorted, null rays do not focus to a singularity.

We develop a full theoretical approach to clustering in complex networks. A key concept is introduced, the edge multiplicity, that measures the number of triangles passing through an edge. This quantity extends the clustering coefficient in that it involves the properties of two¿and not just one¿vertices. The formalism is completed with the definition of a three-vertex correlation function, which is the fundamental quantity describing the properties of clustered networks. The formalism suggests different metrics that are able to thoroughly characterize transitive relations. A rigorous analysis of several real networks, which makes use of this formalism and the metrics, is also provided. It is also found that clustered networks can be classified into two main groups: the weak and the strong transitivity classes. In the first class, edge multiplicity is small, with triangles being disjoint. In the second class, edge multiplicity is high and so triangles share many edges. As we shall see in the following paper, the class a network belongs to has strong implications in its percolation properties.

Objective: There is little evidence regarding the benefit of stress ulcer prophylaxis (SUP) outside critical care setting. Over-prescription of SUP is not devoid of risks. This prospective study aimed to evaluate the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for SUP in a general surgery department. Methods: Data collection was performed prospectively during an 8-week period on patients hospitalized in a general surgery department (58 beds) by pharmacists. Patients with a PPI prescription for the treatment of ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, oesophagitis or epigastric pain were excluded. Patients admitted twice during the study period were not re-included. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists guidelines on SUP were used to assess the appropriateness of de novo PPI prescriptions. Results: Among 255 consecutive patients in the study, 138 (54%) received a prophylaxis with PPI, of which 86 (62%) were de novo PPI prescriptions. One-hundred twenty-nine patients (94%) received esomeprazole (according to the hospital drug policy). The most frequent dosage was 40 mg/day. Use of PPI for SUP was evaluated in 67 patients. Fifty-three patients (79%) had no risk factors for SUP. Twelve and 2 patients had one or two risk factors, respectively. At discharge, PPI prophylaxis was continued in 34% of patients with a de novo PPI prescription. Conclusion: This study highlights the overuse of PPIs in non-ICU patients and the inappropriate continuation of PPI prescriptions at discharge.Treatment

In this paper we consider a general action principle for mechanics written by means of the elements of a Lie algebra. We study the physical reasons why we have to choose precisely a Lie algebra to write the action principle. By means of such an action principle we work out the equations of motion and a technique to evaluate perturbations in a general mechanics that is equivalent to a general interaction picture. Classical or quantum mechanics come out as particular cases when we make realizations of the Lie algebra by derivations into the algebra of products of functions or operators, respectively. Later on we develop in particular the applications of the action principle to classical and quantum mechanics, seeing that in this last case it agrees with Schwinger's action principle. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce a perturbation theory and an interaction picture of classical mechanics on the same footing as in quantum mechanics.

Outgoing radiation is introduced in the framework of the classical predictive electrodynamics using LorentzDiracs equation as a subsidiary condition. In a perturbative scheme in the charges the first radiative self-terms of the accelerations, momentum and angular momentum of a two charge system without external field are calculated.

A model of anisotropic fluid with three perfect fluid components in interaction is studied. Each fluid component obeys the stiff matter equation of state and is irrotational. The interaction is chosen to reproduce an integrable system of equations similar to the one associated to self-dual SU(2) gauge fields. An extension of the BelinskyZakharov version of the inverse scattering transform is presented and used to find soliton solutions to the coupled Einstein equations. A particular class of solutions that can be interpreted as lumps of matter propagating in empty space-time is examined.
