Työn tavoitteena on ollut selvittää HFV-kuivauksen taloudellisia vaikutuksia, kuivausmenetelmän toimintaperiaatteita, ominaisuuksia ja Lahden ammattikorkeakoulun Tekniikan laitoksen kuivaustutkimuksesta saatuja tuloksia. Tutkimuskohteeksi on valittu sydänkeskeinen koivu, joka soveltuu erinomaisesti uuden kuivausmenetelmän raaka-aineeksi, sillä sen hankintakustannukset muodostuvat tavanomaista koivusahatavaraa alhaisemmaksi ja sillä saavutetaan raaka-aineen jatkojalostusarvon huomattava nousu. Työn teoriaosassa on käsitelty puun kuivausta, sen yleisiä piirteitä ja erikuivausvaihtoehtoja. Koivun kuivauksesta ja kuivauskustannuksista löytyy varsinvähän julkaistua tutkimustietoa, jonka johdosta kuivauskustannuksia kartoitettiin myös kotimaisten havupuiden osalta. Tuoreen koivun kuivaus muutamassa tunnissa puusepänkuivaksi aihioksi ilman kuivausvirheitä on Lahden ammattikorkeakoulun Tekniikan laitoksen tutkimuksissa saatujen tuloksien mukaan mahdollista. Tässä tutkimuksessa on käsitelty neljän eri teholuokan kuivaamoinvestointivaihtoehtoa. Vaihtoehdot poikkeavat toisistaan niin hankintahinnan, tuotantokapasiteetin kuinvalmistuskustannuksienkin suhteen. Mikäli kuivaamon tuotantokapasiteetti ei olemääräävä tekijä ja investoinnilla ei ole pääomarajoitetta, niin kannattavimmaksi investointivaihtoehdoksi osoittautuu suurimman kokoluokan HFV-kuivaamolaitteisto.

INTRODUCTION: Deficits in decision making (DM) are commonly associated with prefrontal cortical damage, but may occur with multiple sclerosis (MS). There are no data concerning the impact of MS on tasks evaluating DM under explicit risk, where different emotional and cognitive components can be distinguished. METHODS: We assessed 72 relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients with mild to moderate disease and 38 healthy controls in two DM tasks involving risk with explicit rules: (1) The Wheel of Fortune (WOF), which probes the anticipated affects of decisions outcomes on future choices; and (2) The Cambridge Gamble Task (CGT) which measures risk taking. Participants also underwent a neuropsychological and emotional assessment, and skin conductance responses (SCRs) were recorded. RESULTS: In the WOF, RRMS patients showed deficits in integrating positive counterfactual information (p<0.005) and greater risk aversion (p<0.001). They reported less negative affect than controls (disappointment: p = 0.007; regret: p = 0.01), although their implicit emotional reactions as measured by post-choice SCRs did not differ. In the CGT, RRMS patients differed from controls in quality of DM (p = 0.01) and deliberation time (p = 0.0002), the latter difference being correlated with attention scores. Such changes did not result in overall decreases in performance (total gains). CONCLUSIONS: The quality of DM under risk was modified by MS in both tasks. The reduction in the expression of disappointment coexisted with an increased risk aversion in the WOF and alexithymia features. These concomitant emotional alterations may have implications for better understanding the components of explicit DM and for the clinical support of MS patients.

[eng] The group of teaching innovation in the area of Botany (GIBAF), University of Barcelona (UB), is raised each year to design new accreditation activities under continuous evaluation framework. We present the experience carried out during the academic year 2008-09 in the course of Pharmaceutical Botany. The aim has been to involve students for a semester in the authorship of a tutored project immediately useful and of easy permanence, beyond its assessment proving usefulness. The Medicinal Plants Garden of the Monastery of Pedralbes has been used as a resource and a collaboration agreement has been signed between the UB faculty and the Institute of Culture of Barcelona. The students have developed the work using the Moodle platform CampusvirtualUB into five stages which included preparation of files by students that have been modified in some steps following the various feedbacks from teachers. At the beginning of the activity, students were provided with a complete schedule of activities, the schedule for its implementation, and a total of 18 forced-use library resources. Finally, through Google sites, a website has been implemented, allowing for a virtual tour of the garden, documenting by referenced literature 50 medicinal plants for their nomenclature, botanical description, distribution, uses historical, current and future) and toxicity. The result of the activity was presented at a public ceremony in the Monastery of Pedralbes and is available at: http://sites.google.com/site/jardimedievalpedralbes/ [spa] El grupo de innovación docente integrado por profesores del área de Botánica (GIBAF) de la Universidad de Barcelona (UB) se plantea cada curso el diseño de nuevas actividades acreditativas en el marco de la evaluación continuada. Se presenta la experiencia llevada a cabo durante el curso 2008-09 en la asignatura Botánica Farmacéutica. El objetivo ha sido implicar durante un semestre a los estudiantes en la autoría de un proyecto tutorizado de inmediata utilidad y clara perdurabilidad, más allá de su utilidad acreditativa. Como recurso se ha utilizado el Jardín de Plantas Medicinales del Monasterio de Pedralbes y se ha firmado un convenio de colaboración docente entre la UB y el Instituto de Cultura de Barcelona. Los estudiantes han realizado el trabajo utilizando la plataforma Moodle del Campus virtual de la UB en cinco etapas que han incluido la confección de unas fichas que se han ido modificando en función de las diversas retroacciones de los profesores. Al inicio de la actividad, se facilitó a los estudiantes el cronograma completo de la actividad, la pauta para su realización, así como un total de 18 recursos bibliográficos de uso obligado. Finalmente, a través de GoogleSites, se ha realizado una web que permite realizar un paseo virtual por el jardín, documentando de forma referenciada para las 50 plantas medicinales su nomenclatura, descripción botánica, distribución, usos (históricos, actuales y futuros) y toxicidad. Desde 2011, el Área de Programación y Calidad de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) trabaja de manera transversal con el Grupo de Servicios de Biblioteca de Apoyo a la Investigación para ofrecer un servicio de apoyo a las convocatorias de evaluación de la investigación (AQU, ANECA). Se ha hecho una apuesta institucional para que el profesorado de la UOC supere satisfactoriamente las calificaciones y reconocimientos externos exigidos para las titulaciones del centro y tenga suficiente y valorada experiencia docente e investigadora.

Intrinsic resistance to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR; HER1) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) gefitinib, and more generally to EGFR TKIs, is a common phenomenon in breast cancer. The availability of molecular criteria for predicting sensitivity to EGFR-TKIs is, therefore, the most relevant issue for their correct use and for planning future research. Though it appears that in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) response to gefitinib is directly related to the occurrence of specific mutations in the EGFR TK domain, breast cancer patients cannot be selected for treatment with gefitinib on the same basis as such EGFR mutations have beenreported neither in primary breast carcinomas nor in several breast cancer cell lines. Alternatively, there is a generalagreement on the hypothesis that the occurrence of molecular alterations that activate transduction pathways downstreamof EGFR (i.e., MEK1/MEK2 - ERK1/2 MAPK and PI-3'K - AKT growth/survival signaling cascades) significantly affect the response to EGFR TKIs in breast carcinomas. However,there are no studies so far addressing a role of EGF-related ligands as intrinsic breast cancer cell modulators of EGFR TKIefficacy. We recently monitored gene expression profiles andsub-cellular localization of HER-1/-2/-3/-4 related ligands (i.e., EGF, amphiregulin, transforming growth factor-α, ß-cellulin,epiregulin and neuregulins) prior to and after gefitinib treatment in a panel of human breast cancer cell lines. First, gefitinibinduced changes in the endogenous levels of EGF-related ligands correlated with the natural degree of breast cancer cellsensitivity to gefitinib. While breast cancer cells intrinsically resistant to gefitinib (IC50 ≥15 μM) markedly up-regulated(up to 600 times) the expression of genes codifying for HERspecific ligands, a significant down-regulation (up to 106 times)of HER ligand gene transcription was found in breast cancer cells intrinsically sensitive to gefitinib (IC50 ≤1 μM). Second,loss of HER1 function differentially regulated the nuclear trafficking of HER-related ligands. While gefitinib treatment induced an active import and nuclear accumulation of the HER ligand NRG in intrinsically gefitinib-resistant breastcancer cells, an active export and nuclear loss of NRG was observed in intrinsically gefitinib-sensitive breast cancer cells.In summary, through in vitro and pharmacodynamic studies we have learned that, besides mutations in the HER1 gene,oncogenic changes downstream of HER1 are the key players regulating gefitinib efficacy in breast cancer cells. It now appears that pharmacological inhibition of HER1 functionalso leads to striking changes in both the gene expression and the nucleo-cytoplasmic trafficking of HER-specific ligands,and that this response correlates with the intrinsic degree of breast cancer sensitivity to the EGFR TKI gefitinib. Therelevance of this previously unrecognized intracrine feedback to gefitinib warrants further studies as cancer cells could bypassthe antiproliferative effects of HER1-targeted therapeutics without a need for the overexpression and/or activation of other HER family members and/or the activation of HER-driven downstream signaling cascades

The effect of environmental conditions immediately before anthesis on potential grain weight was investigated in wheat at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agronomy (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina) during 1995 and 1996. Plants of two cultivars of wheat were grown in two environments (two contrasting sowing dates) to provide different background temperature conditions. In these environments, transparent boxes were installed covering the spikes in order to increase spike temperature for a short period (c. 6 days) immediately before anthesis, i.e. between ear emergence and anthesis. In both environments, transparent boxes increased mean temperatures by at least 3n8 mC. These increases were almost entirely due to the changes in maximum temperatures because minimum temperatures were little affected. Final grain weight was significantly reduced by higher temperature during the ear emergence–anthesis period. It is possible that this reduction could be mediated by the effect of the heat treatment on carpel weight at anthesis because a curvilinear association between final grain weight and carpel weight at anthesis was found. This curvilinear association may also indicate a threshold carpel weight for maximizing grain weight.

Se ha diseñado una asignatura optativa y de libre elección, para estudiantes de la Facultad de Medicina, de la Universitat de Lleida. El actual curso académico ha sido el cuarto que se viene realizando dicha asignatura. Por ella ha pasado cerca de 320 alumnos. Se trata de cubrir un vacío habitual en los planes de estudio para futuros médicos, ofreciendo tanto información específica sobre teoría del tema drogas, como experiencias prácticas referidas a modalidades de tratamiento, aspectos preventivos, recursos asistenciales, intervenciones mínimas, etc. La valoración de los alumnos de la experiencia ha sido excelente. Se insiste especialmente en transmitir el modelo bio- psico-social del fenómeno drogas, tanto en su vertiente originaria de la adicción, como en su aspecto terapéutico, por lo que implica el trabajo interdisciplinar entre profesionales.

The geometric characterisation of tree orchards is a high-precision activity comprising the accurate measurement and knowledge of the geometry and structure of the trees. Different types of sensors can be used to perform this characterisation. In this work a terrestrial LIDAR sensor (SICK LMS200) whose emission source was a 905-nm pulsed laser diode was used. Given the known dimensions of the laser beam cross-section (with diameters ranging from 12 mm at the point of emission to 47.2 mm at a distance of 8 m), and the known dimensions of the elements that make up the crops under study (flowers, leaves, fruits, branches, trunks), it was anticipated that, for much of the time, the laser beam would only partially hit a foreground target/object, with the consequent problem of mixed pixels or edge effects. Understanding what happens in such situations was the principal objective of this work. With this in mind, a series of tests were set up to determine the geometry of the emitted beam and to determine the response of the sensor to different beam blockage scenarios. The main conclusions that were drawn from the results obtained were: (i) in a partial beam blockage scenario, the distance value given by the sensor depends more on the blocked radiant power than on the blocked surface area; (ii) there is an area that influences the measurements obtained that is dependent on the percentage of blockage and which ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 m with respect to the foreground target/object. If the laser beam impacts on a second target/object located within this range, this will affect the measurement given by the sensor. To interpret the information obtained from the point clouds provided by the LIDAR sensors, such as the volume occupied and the enclosing area, it is necessary to know the resolution and the process for obtaining this mesh of points and also to be aware of the problem associated with mixed pixels.

The anticipated worldwide increase in biodiesel production will result in an accumulation of glycerol for which there are insufficient conventional uses. The surplus of this by-product has increased rapidly during the last decade, prompting a search for new glycerol applications. We describe here the synthesis of dissymmetric chlorohydrin esters from symmetric 1,3-dichloro-2-propyl esters obtained from glycerol. We studied the influence of two solvents: 1,4-dioxane and 1-butanol and two bases: sodium carbonate and 1-butylimidazole, on the synthesis of dissymmetric chlorohydrin esters. In addition, we studied the influence of other bases (potassium and lithium carbonates) in the reaction using 1,4-dioxane as the solvent. The highest yield was obtained using 1,4-dioxane and sodium carbonate.

BACKGROUND: The impact of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) strategy has been less than anticipated because of poor uptake. Electronic algorithms have the potential to improve quality of health care in children. However, feasibility studies about the use of electronic protocols on mobile devices over time are limited. This study investigated constraining as well as facilitating factors that influence the uptake of a new electronic Algorithm for Management of Childhood Illness (ALMANACH) among primary health workers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. METHODS: A qualitative approach was applied using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with altogether 40 primary health care workers from 6 public primary health facilities in the three municipalities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Health worker's perceptions related to factors facilitating or constraining the uptake of the electronic ALMANACH were identified. RESULTS: In general, the ALMANACH was assessed positively. The majority of the respondents felt comfortable to use the devices and stated that patient's trust was not affected. Most health workers said that the ALMANACH simplified their work, reduced antibiotic prescription and gave correct classification and treatment for common causes of childhood illnesses. Few HWs reported technical challenges using the devices and complained about having had difficulties in typing. Majority of the respondents stated that the devices increased the consultation duration compared to routine practice. In addition, health system barriers such as lack of staff, lack of medicine and lack of financial motivation were identified as key reasons for the low uptake of the devices. CONCLUSIONS: The ALMANACH built on electronic devices was perceived to be a powerful and useful tool. However, health system challenges influenced the uptake of the devices in the selected health facilities.

Introducción. El objetivo de este estudio fue proporcionar orientaciones para ayudar a profesionales de la educación física a tomar decisiones en torno a las emociones que produjeron diferentes juegos deportivos clasificados en cuatro dominios de acción motriz (psicomotor, cooperación, oposición y cooperación/oposición). Método. La muestra correspondió a 284 estudiantes universitarios de educación física y de educación primaria (INEFC, Facultad de Educación, Universidades de Lleida y de Barcelona, España). A través de un diseño cuasi-experimental los estudiantes indicaron en un cuestionario validado la intensidad sentida en trece emociones tras participar en cada juego. El análisis de los datos se realizó a través de los árboles de clasificación. Resultados. La comparación de los resultados en los diferentes dominios de acción motor mostró que los juegos cooperativos fueron los que activaron emociones positivas más intensas entre los estudiantes. En los juegos no competitivos de cooperación los resultados en emociones positivas fueron 18.3 % más elevados que en los juegos competitivos. Conclusión. Los resultados sugieren que el tipo de juegos a elegir es la primera decisión importante que debería plantearse para educar emociones en los estudiantes. Cada dominio de acción motriz está asociado a la producción de diferentes tipos de emoción.

El artículo es un estudio realizado con el objetivo de observar la utilización de recursos de aprendizaje en diferentes asignaturas presenciales, semipresenciales y no presenciales de la Universidad de Lleida. La investigación se desarrolló bajo la modalidad de estudio de casos, recogiendo datos de profesorado y estudiantado a través de análisis documental, cuestionarios y entrevistas. El estudio mostró que, independientemente de la modalidad formativa de las asignaturas, se utilizaba una variedad considerable de recursos para hacer llegar la información a los estudiantes, aunque se detectó una baja mediación entre los materiales que el profesorado publicaba y el acceso a estos por parte de los estudiantes. Consideramos que todavía queda camino por recorrer en el aprovechamiento de los recursos TIC en los procesos formativos universitarios.

Habitualmente la formación inicial de profesionales de la educación suele realizarse en los contextos universitarios, las escuelas son consideradas contextos para realizar las prácticas y los museos y centros de arte tienen poca presencia en la formación de maestros. Por ello desde la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación de la UdL y en el contexto de la formación inicial de maestros y psicopedagogos empezamos a entretejer la red entre la Facultad, los centros educativos y los recursos culturales comunitarios para mejorar la formación de todas las personas implicadas. Concretamente, estamos desarrolando el espacio híbrido en el marco del proyecto Educ-arte dando especial énfasis a las relaciones creadas entre la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación, el Centro de Arte la Panera y la escuela Príncep de Viana de Lleida. Para ello utilizamos el arte contemporáneo como mediador de aprendizajes y como instrumento de formación y construcción de conocimientos. Nuestra aportación está enmarcada en los planteamientos socioconstructivistas que sitúan la cultura como elemento básico para la humanización de las personas. Es por ello que en nuestro entretejer situamos los recursos comunitarios culturales en general y museos y centros de arte en particular como parte esencial del trabajo en red.

La importancia del tratamiento de una situación tan compleja como el dolor hace en ocasiones insuficientes los conocimientos incluidos en los planes de estudio de las titulaciones de ciencias de la salud. Por otro lado, existe un gran desconocimiento entre los alumnos de estas carreras sanitarias sobre cual es el papel que desempeñan las otras profesiones sanitarias lo que puede dificultar la posibilidad de trabajar en el futuro de una manera multidisciplinar. Para poder dar solución a estos problemas, la Facultad de Enfermería de la Universidad de Lleida ha puesto en práctica una actividad piloto en la que participan alumnos de enfermería y fisioterapia. La actividad tiene como finalidad el ampliar y unificar los conocimientos de la fisiología y valoración del dolor de una manera multidisciplinar. Lo favorable de los resultados sugiere la necesidad de incorporar este tipo de actividades a otras asignaturas, a la vez que se evidencia la necesidad de incorporar otras carreras sanitarias a dicha actividad.
