Brucelose e tuberculose como doenças ocupacionais em matadouros-frigoríficos de bovinos no Brasil

Tuberculosis and brucellosis are important diseases in national scenario, as they affect national cattle and can be transmitted to human, as they are zoonosis. The transmission risk increases mostly for those who have strict contact with animals, as is this case of slaughterhouse workers. This paper presents a bibliographic review of data referent to both diseases occurring in bovine slaughterhouse workers in Brazil, characterizing as occupational zoonosis diseases. We still have few data available of this subject, what raise difficulties to know the real incidence of both diseases in national cattle and in people who work in contact with animals, and most of the time are not instructed to the risk that they are exposed and how to prevent it. It’s important to know which is the situation of both diseases so that prevention and even eradication measures can be taken, as we know the Veterinary has an essential function in this matter, protecting animal health as much as protecting national public health

This paper concentrates on the analysis of how, through the narrative elements, as narrator, characters and story, Guimarães Rosa builds the theme of justice in tales of Sagarana. While all the collection is taken into consideration, we emphasize in the study: O burrinho pedrês, Duelo, São Marcos, Corpo Fechado, Conversa de bois and A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga . Lipidose hepática felina

Feline hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver disease is a cholestatic syndrome that affects domestic cats and is characterized by excess fat accumulation in the liver of cats. Symptoms commonly seen with this syndrome are anorexia, weight loss, lethargy, vomiting, jaundice, and occasionally behavioral or neurologic signs such as excessive drooling, blindness, coma, and seizures. The diagnosis is based on the patient history, clinical examination, complementary examination, and the definitive diagnosis is obtained by cytology and/or histopathology of hepatic tissue. In serum biochemistry, the main findings include increased serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST) and bilirubin. The gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) is normal or slightly increased. The cornerstone of therapy is aggressive feeding to supply the cat full caloric requirements. Without aggressive nutritional support and intensive monitoring the fatty liver disease can be fatal

Desenvolvimento de protótipos antifúngicos contra biofilmes de Histoplasma capsulatum

A histoplasmose é uma doença respiratória e sistêmica causada pelo fungo dimórfico Histoplasma capsulatum. A micose é endêmica em diversos locais do mundo, incluindo o Rio de Janeiro. Já se sabe que a gravidade de doenças, principalmente das que são causadas por agentes oportunistas, depende principalmente do estado imunológico do paciente. O mesmo se aplica à histoplasmose. Porém, nos últimos anos, tem sido estudada a influência da capacidade de formação de biofilme por esses agentes no desenvolvimento da doença e manifestações das mesmas. Diversos fungos apresentam a habilidade de formar biofilmes e recentemente descobriu-se que o H. capsulatum também possui tal habilidade. Embora a relação dos quadros clínicos de histoplasmose e a formação de biofilme por seu agente ainda não esteja completamente esclarecida, tal habilidade pode estar relacionada à sua defesa contra o sistema imunológico e ao agravamento da doença. Este fato, atrelado à escassez de opções terapêuticas antifúngicas, deixam claro a necessidade de busca por novas substâncias que sejam capazes de inibir os fungos e também que sejam capazes de destruir seus biofilmes ou inibir sua formação. Neste aspecto destacam-se as substâncias de origem vegetal, que já têm sido amplamente estudadas e cuja atividade já foi comprovada. Entre elas estão os compostos fenólicos, presentes em diversas espécies vegetais e que têm como exemplo o ácido protocatecuico, os ésteres, derivados deste e também o ácido cafeico e seus derivados. Utilização de técnicas de geoprocessamento para monitoramento de atividades de mineração ao longo de dutos: poliduto Rio de Janeiro/Minas Gerais

The transportation of oil through polyducts implies a concern related to safety and environmental impacts they may cause, especially when exposed to risks that affect their integrity. Among the various anthropogenic activities included in this scenario, mining can aggravate, increase the risks and degrade the environment. Since these polyducts go through significant extensions, remote sensing has great applicability as a tool for data acquisition. For this, change detection techniques were used to monitor mining activities in a defined study area in the state of Rio de Janeiro, along the duct ORBEL. The characterization of the study area and the mining activities were developed through bibliographical data. The satellite images processing and the application of change detection technique were performed in two scenes for the years 2002 and 2010. The growth in the mining area was about 6.67 times and it was possible to identify types of extraction involved which can represent direct risks to the pipeline

Doenças osteoarticulares em pequenos animais

Osteoarticular diseases are very frequent in small animals, especially dogs. Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative arthropathy in cats and dogs. It is one of the most important skeletal disease in small animals and it is divided into two broad classes: secondary and genetics. The secondary is originated from situations that can cause joint instability like as trauma, ligament problems and obesity among others. The gene for osteoarthritis comes from hereditary problems such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and other diseases that can cause articular instability. The hereditary osteoarticular diseases are important only because they can result in the osteoarthritis. It is important to prevent the joint instability and consequently the clinical signs that affect the quality of life of the animals. The most common clinical signs are intermittent claudication, a decrease in performance, reluctance to jump and climb ladders among others. To prevent the clinical signs or mitigate them, the treatments need to be focused on pain control and especially restoration of the affected joint. The treatments most used are the medical and surgery. Anti-inflammatory and analgesics are used in large scale for pain control and to inhibit inflammatory mediators. Furthermore, medical treatment includes weight reduction, physiotherapy and proper nutrition along with anti-inflammatory and analgesics. Surgical treatments are indicated if there is an inadequate response to medical treatment. Physiotherapy is often used in conjunction with other treatments. Besides the reduction of weight is essential and obesity is unacceptable. Cats also suffer from osteoarthritis, but the diagnosis is rarer than in dogs. Os movimentos nas redes e em redes: das manifestações internacionais ao Movimento Prudente

Neste trabalho apresentamos uma leitura sobre o processo de articulação dos movimentos em redes e do uso das redes sociais pelos movimentos socioespaciais que mais se destacaram no mundo nos últimos cinco anos. Tendo suas bases nos marcos conceituais de movimentos socioespacial, movimentos socioterritorial, Rede e Redes Sociais, remontamos ao processo de formação da Via Campesina e das manifestações na Primavera Árabe, M12M, M15M, Occupy Wall Street, Movimento Passe Livre e o Movimento Prudente na escala local. Analisar e comparar estes movimentos e suas manifestações nos permitiu identificar a conexão entre a difusão de informações nas redes sociais e a materialização das manifestações no espaço público. Destaca-se que o uso destas tem acarretado em uma nova dinâmica não só na difusão de manifestação, mas também na realização de trabalho de base, caracterizando-se como um importante espaço de socialização política da atualidade

Efeito do ácido tânico purificado (tanino) sobre o crescimento in vitro de isolados de Pythium insidiosum

Pythiosis is caused by the oomycetous Pythium insidiosum and affect domestic and wild animals and man. The presence of water and vegetal material is fundamental for its life cycle in nature. The biflagellate zoospore are the infective form of this pathogen. The lesions are generally of granulomatous aspect, which frequently may be contaminated by secondary bacterial infection in skin and subcutaneous tissue. Dissemination to systemic tissues may also occur and it may be due to the spread of the pathogen from cutaneous lesions, as well as a primary source of infection. Clinical signs depend on the affected tissue. Diagnosis of pythiosis is based on the clinical manifestations, histopathological sections and culture of the pathogen. Serological tests may also be employed and more recently molecular biology has been introduced as a sensitive, specific and a rapid method for conclusive diagnosis. Treatment is often difficult and extensive surgery procedures are required, however, depending on the anatomic region and size of the lesion, such procedure is unfeasible and relapses are frequent. Due to the climate changes, which has contributed to increase the incidence of pythiosis, it is necessary the search for new therapeutic protocols

Alterações ultrassonográficas na pancreatite aguda canina

Pancreatitis is a predominantly disease of the exocrine pancreas, which occurs commonly in dogs. Acute pandreatitis is reversible, with the removal of the primary cause, whereas chronic pancreatitits is irreversible, with histopathological changes, such as atrophy and fibosis that occurs from persistent inflammation. In dogs, clinicl signs ranging among abdominal pain and anorexia until potential insufficiency of various organs and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation. In general, dogs with acute illness presents vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain and several degrees of dehydration, collapse and shock. Systhemic lupus erythematous is a imunomediated disorder witch affects primarly dogs between two and nine years. Clinical manifestations are very diverse, including renal signs, that may lead to chronic renal disease, and dermatologic and joint sings. Systhemic lupus erythematous diagnostic is a challange to the clinician, due to its diverse list of differecial diagnoses and its low availability of specific tests. The treatment consists of corticosteroids and imunomodulators, and supportive therapy that inhibits the progression of the disease. Influência do Programa Saúde Ativa Rio Claro nas variáveis bioquímicas relacionadas a doenças cardiovasculares de seus praticantes

A inatividade física é uma das principais causas de morte no mundo, e um dos principais fatores de risco para doenças não transmissíveis. Os fatores de risco destas doenças podem ser prevenidos com modificações no estilo de vida, que reduz eventos cardiovasculares e aumenta a sobrevida de pacientes portadores ou em risco de coronariopatias. Entendendo de como estes agentes casuais se predispõem ao surgimento de cardiopatias, o acompanhamento de fatores de risco ajudam na identificação de sinais antecessores à doença, que podem ser modificados, atenuados e até mesmo revertidos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi de verificar a influência de um ano de prática regular de Atividade Física nas variáveis bioquímicas (bioquímicas (glicose, triglicérides, HDL, LDL, e colesterol total), circunferência de quadril e abdominal e Indice de Massa Corporal (IMC) de seus praticantes. Participaram do presente estudo 25 mulheres com idade superior a 40 anos participantes iniciantes do Programa de Exercício Físico na Atenção Básica da cidade de Rio Claro-SP. As atividades foram realizadas com frequência de três vezes por semana, em sessões de 60 minutos. Foram realizadas três análises laboratoriais (início, após 4 meses e um ano de intervenção) das variáveis bioquímicas (glicose, triglicérides, HDL, LDL, e colesterol total). Os principais resultados do presente estudo demonstraram que após quatros meses de intervenção a circunferência abdominal e o LDL apresentaram menores valores do que no início do programa. Entretanto, após um ano de intervenção a circunferência do quadril, abdominal, LDL, glicose e colesterol total apresentaram maiores valores do que quando comparado com os valores após os 4 meses. Com base nos resultados antropométricos percebe-se que houve melhores resultados aos quatro meses de intervenção do que com um ano de intervenção. O léxico e a moda: anglicismos nas manifestações linguísticas do blog The Blonde Salad

Within the discussion of fashionblogs and their contributions to scientific studies, we start from the speech of Barthes (2006) about the relevance of the lexicon in the construction of Fashion and we met the theorists of Lexicology / Lexicography to define Anglicism (BIDERMAN, 2001), and the observation of its prestige in the Italian Language (ROGATO, 2008; BISETTO, 2003) and in the blog The Blonde Salad. Confronting this theoretical framework, we conducted a brief analysis of the anglicisms collected from posts of the first year of existence of such fashionblog, as a result of this work.
