INTRODUCTION: The autonomic nervous system (ANS) could be investigated in a noninvasive way by the heart rate variability analysis (HRV) which has contributed to several health areas such as physiotherapy. OBJECTIVE: To gather information regarding the use of HRV on physiotherapy aims at providing an update of the findings for the area on journals of national circulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The journals of national circulation classified as greater than B2 or B2 and with free access and complete texts in some internet sites were searched on 21 area WebQualis resulting on selection of Revista Brasileira de Fisioterapia, Fisioterapia e Pesquisa and Fisioterapia em Movimento using the keywords: autonomic nervous system, sympathetic nervous system, physiotherapy and heart rate variability. RESULTS: The search resulted in 19 articles being 17 clinical trials and two case reports. CONCLUSION: The HRV has been used as a resource of interventions evaluation, as pathological conditions common to clinical practice investigation and to physiological conditions interpretation in physiotherapy. The HRV is principally used to the cardiorespiratory specialty of physiotherapy.

Helmintofauna associada a uma guilda de anfíbios do pantanal Sul -Matogrossense

A helmintofauna tem papel central no ecossistema, pois afeta a ecologia, evolução, crescimento e regulação da população de hospedeiros e, consequentemente, toda a biodiversidade. Neste estudo foram selecionados anuros pertencentes a uma guilda, de acordo com o modo reprodutivo e sítio de vocalização, e foi estudada a supracomunidade de parasitas associadas a estes anfíbios. Em janeiro de 2009 foram coletados 60 anuros no Pantanal Sul- Matogrossense, sub-região Miranda-Abobral no município de Corumbá, MS. As espécies de anuros coletadas foram Rhinella granulosa, R. schineideri, Pseudis paradoxa, P. limellum, Pleurodema fuscomaculata e Physalaemus albonotatus. Os anuros foram necropsiados e analisados quanto à presença de helmintos. Dezesseis espécies de helmintos foram identificadas em 50 indivíduos hospedeiros (prevalência total = 83,3%). Dentre os parasitas foram encontradas três espécies de trematódeos (Catadiscus marinholutzi, Catadiscus propinquus e Glypthelmins palmipedis), uma espécie de cestoda, Cylindrotaenia americana, dez espécies de nematóides (Aplectana sp., Contracecum sp.,Cosmocerca podicipinus, Cosmocercidae, Falcaustra mascula, Physaloptera sp., Ochoterenella sp., Oswaldocruzia subauricularis, Physalopteroides venancioi sp. e Rhabdias sp.) e cistos de acantocéfalo. Os trematódeos foram encontrados apenas em P. paradoxa e P. albonotatus, enquanto C. americana foi encontrada apenas em P. fuscomaculata. As espécies Aplectana sp. e Falcaustra máscula foi encontrada apenas em R. schineideri. O único indivíduo encontrado em P. limellum foi da espécie Physalopteroides venancoi. As suprapopulações de parasitas se mostraram mais agregadas em R. granulosa e P. paradoxa, onde seus hábitos de vida e hábitos alimentares podem influenciar na comunidade parasitária. A cor do citrino: efeito de irradiação e tratamento térmico

Quartz crystals under natural or artificial irradiation can acquire dark shades and variations btween smoky, black and brown but when submitted at heat-treatment they can become greenish, yellowish or brownish, called citrine at gem shops. In this work a lot of samples was collected from different places in Brazil (Corinto - MG, Diamantina - MG, Sento Sé - BA and Santana do Araguaia – PA) and at first they were submitted at artificial irradiation resulting in dark colours. After that they were submitted at heat-treatment in differents temperatures and time of exposure to record when color change happened to light colours. It variated according to each origin, temperature, time of expousure and different aluminiun and other chemical elements content. Its was possible to define the ideal conditions to results better colours and related it with geology and chemical quartz composition.

Estudos estruturais por difração de raios X de fosfolipases A2 em presença de íons com importância funcional

Snakes from Bothrops genus are responsible for more than 90% of the ophidian accidents in Brazil. One of the main complications from this kind of accident is muscular necrosis, which is related to the action of phospholipases A2 and metalloproteases, two groups of enzymes found in the venom of these animals. Although this complication cannot be solved by serum therapy administration, a great number of studies have been performed with the attempt to know the pharmacological sites of these toxins aiming, in the future, the development of complementary treatments to serum therapy. This work proposes structural studies of bothropic phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) in the presence of ions relevant to their activity, using the X-ray crystallography technique. Recently, it was demonstrated ions, as manganese, calcium and others, interfere in the biological activity of the PLA2s. Particularly, Lys49-PLA2s in the presence of manganese ions have miotoxicity reduced. Asp49-PLA2s show catalytic activity dependent of calcium, although structural studies with a miotoxic Asp49-PLA2, BthTX-II, suggest a possible catalytic mechanism independent of calcium. Therefore, co-crystallization of BthTX-II in the presence of calcium ions and of PrTX-I in the presence of manganese ions were performed. Comparative structural studies among obtained results and others already published in the literature were performed aiming a better understanding of the structure-function relationship of these toxins. The BthTX-II with the presence of calcium do not show this ion in the loop of coordination of calcium, presence necessary to develop the catalyses. After comparison of this model with the native one, only one distortion was found, but no apparent relationship with the residues responsible for its activity. Com base nos princípios da Permacultura foi analisado o contexto da área por meio de um estudo do ecossistema e da história da família e da cidade; os fluxos energéticos que influenciam no ecossistema; os elementos que fazem parte do sistema para que através de um zoneamento, criar novas relações entre os sistemas de produção com o objetivo de apresentar a viabilidade comercial de um sistema de produção sustentável em pequena escala
