An Archival Case Study: Revisiting The Life and Political Economy of Lauchlin Currie

This paper forms part of a wider project to show the significance of archival material on distinguished economists, in this case Lauchlin Currie (1902-93), who studied and taught at Harvard before entering government service at the US Treasury and Federal Reserve Board as the intellectual leader of Roosevelt’s New Deal, 1934-39, as FDR’s White House economic adviser in peace and war, 1939-45, and as a post-war development economist. It discusses the uses made of the written and oral material available when the author was writing his intellectual biography of Currie (Duke University Press 1990) while Currie was still alive, and the significance of the material that has come to light after Currie’s death.

Estudi i edició crítica de Records de l'Avi

Treball de recerca realitzat per una alumna d'ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit cientí­fic del Jovent l'€any 2009.Es tracta d'estudi de caràcter històric, literari i crí­tic del monòleg d'un sol acte 'Records de l'Avi', escrit per l'igualadí Gabriel Castellà i Raich (1876-1959) l'any 1913. L'obra narra una jornada de la batalla del Bruc (1808). L'estudi s'inicia amb una recerca sobre la situació històrica del territori de l'autor. A continuació, inclou la biografia i la contribució literària de Gabriel Castellà. D'altra banda, la part de caràcter literari fa referència als aspectes referents a l'obra 'Records de l'Avi', per tal de donar a conèixer els seus aspectes interns. També es fa una edició crí­tica, en la qual s'analitzen els errors de l'obra a partir de la comparació de dos testimonis -un dels quals manuscrit- que actualment encara existeixen. Amb aquesta comparació s'han pogut realitzar alguns canvis, fets amb l'objectiu de poder aproximar l'obra de la manera més precisa possible al format que l'autor hauria desitjat.

Fuentes para la historia de las cooperativas agrarias en España: los archivos empresariales

Desde que en los años 70 del siglo XX la cuestión de los archivos de empresa comenzara a tomar forma en España, varios han sido las empresas que han organizado su documentación y diversos los estudios que han tratado este tema. Aunque de manera mucho más tardía que otros países que presentan una muy superior tradición en este aspecto, tales como Alemania, Inglaterra, Francia, Italia o los Estados Unidos. En España la organización de estos archivos empresariales como centros de investigación histórica aún es escasa, y si analizamos los casos existentes comprobaremos que es una práctica que se circunscribe únicamente a empresas de gran tamaño localizadas en sectores determinados, tales como el público, bancario, minero-metalúrgico, energético, ferroviario, naval, algo del sector alimentario (tabacos, bodegas vinícolas jerezanas), etc.

A Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Alcohol Intervention Programme is an Effective Secondary Prevention Approach for New Employees entering an Irish Workforce: A Pilot

The prevalence of unhealthy drinking at all levels in Irish society poses serious issues in terms of the consequence to individuals concerned, as well as to society as a whole. The workplace offers a useful setting for early identification and intervention with new employees who may have pre-existing alcohol use disorder issues. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness within the workplace of a brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) intervention in reducing participants binge and risky drinking behaviours. Twenty-six Irish Naval recruits volunteered to participate in this randomised controlled trial. The intervention was conducted over four consecutive one and a half hour weekly sessions. Participants completed four principle outcome measures at intake, termination of the intervention and at the two-month follow-up assessment. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (Babor, Higginis-Biddle, Saunders & Monterio, 2001) was used to measures participants’ consumption levels and frequency of binge or risky drinking. A Readiness Ruler (Miller, Zweben, Diclemente, & Rychtarik, 1992) was used to measure participants’ readiness to change drinking, while the Drinking Expectancy Questionnaire (Young & Oei, 1996) was used to measure participants’ beliefs pertaining to alcohol, and their ability to refuse alcohol in high-risk social surroundings. There were preliminary data in support of the intervention. There were interaction effects that approached statistical significance for both a reduction in participants’ binge drinking (p =. 064) and an increase in participants’ ability to refuse alcohol in high-risk social settings (p = .059). L'objectiu d'aquest Treball Final de Carrera consisteix en la realització del desenvolupament d'un Gestor d'Administració de Sistemes (GAS). El desenvolupament d'aquest gestor tindrà ús real i vindrà a cobrir una necessitat del departament de Sistemas Informàtic de l'Hospital Americà de la Base Naval de Trencada on treball com a administradora de sistemes.
