Tres versiones contemporáneas de la comunidad : Hacia una teoría política post-fundacionalista

Ante el embate del particularismo, la emergencia de los nacionalismos reaccionarios en el mundo contemporáneo, y la difusión del comunitarismo en la filosofía política, es necesario que la teoría política asuma un rol crítico ante estos procesos teóricos y políticos. Esa es la tarea que desde el postfundacionalismo se plantean la obra de Jean-Luc Nancy, Roberto Espósito y Ernesto Laclau. En este trabajo intentamos escrutar la visión que estos autores postulan sobre la comunidad. Se verá que, mas allá de sus distintas estrategias argumentativas y de perspectiva, se desarrolla en estos tres autores una idea de la comunidad fundamentalmente anti-esencialista, una comunidad improductiva (Nancy), estructurada en torno a una nada (Espósito) y cuya única manera de reconstitución es a través de la articulación política (Laclau)

O testemunho da busca das origens na adoçao e os restos da memória

Investigamos la relación entre la adopción, testimonio y memoria basada en investigación documental y bibliográfica. Para tal fin, presentamos la legislación brasilera sobre adopción, en particular en lo que se refiere a la búsqueda de los orígenes, analizamos las nociones de comunidad y testimonio, de acuerdo con la definición de Giorgio Agamben y Nancy Jean-Luc; y describimos la polarización entre el olvido y el recuerdo que manifiesta en la adopción. Concluimos que la memoria revelada en la búsqueda de los orígenes no se disocia del resto que la operación simbólica de constitución de la familia sustituta establece. Ese resto responde por el nombre de familia natural, denominación proveniente del proceso judicial que permitió la adopción

How do sportspeople succeed in a non-collaborative game? An illustration of a perverse side effect of altruism Are team sports specialists predisposed to collaboration? The scientific literature on this topic is divided. The present article attempts to end this debate by applying experimental game theory. We constituted three groups of volunteers (all students aged around 20): 25 team sports specialists; 23 individual sports specialists (gymnasts, track & field athletes and swimmers) and a control group of 24 non-sportspeople. Each subgroup was divided into 3 teams that played against each other in turn (and not against teams from other subgroups). The teams played a game based on the well-known Prisoner's Dilemma (Tucker, 1950) - the paradoxical "Bluegill Sunbass Game" (Binmore, 1999) with three Nash equilibria (two suboptimal equilibria with a pure strategy and an optimal equilibrium with a mixed, egotistical strategy (p= 1/2)). This game also features a Harsanyi equilibrium (based on constant compliance with a moral code and altruism by empathy: "do not unto others that which you would not have them do unto you"). How, then, was the game played? Two teams of 8 competed on a handball court. Each team wore a distinctive jersey. The game lasted 15 minutes and the players were allowed to touch the handball ball with their feet or hands. After each goal, each team had to return to its own half of the court. Players were allowed to score in either goal and thus cooperate with their teammates or not, as they saw fit. A goal against the nominally opposing team (a "guardian" strategy, by analogy with the Bluegill Sunbass Game) earned a point for everyone in the team. For an own goal (a "sneaker" strategy), only the scorer earned a point - hence the paradox. If all the members of a team work together to score a goal, everyone is happy (the Harsanyi solution). However, the situation was not balanced in the Nashian sense: each player had a reason to be disloyal to his/her team at the merest opportunity. But if everyone adopts a "sneaker" strategy, the game becomes a free-for-all and the chances of scoring become much slimmer. In a context in which doubt reigns as to the honesty of team members and "legal betrayals", what type of sportsperson will score the most goals? By analogy with the Bluegill Sunbass Game, we recorded direct motor interactions (passes and shots) based on either a "guardian" tactic (i.e. collaboration within the team) or a "sneaker" tactic (shots and passes against the player's designated team). So, was the group of team sports specialist more collaborative than the other two groups? The answer was no. A statistical analysis (difference from chance in a logistic regression) enabled us to draw three conclusions: ?For the team sports specialists, the Nash equilibrium (1950) was stronger than the Harsanyi equilibrium (1977). ?The sporting principles of equilibrium and exclusivity are not appropriate in the Bluegill Sunbass Game and are quickly abandoned by the team sports specialists. The latter are opportunists who focus solely on winning and do well out of it. ?The most altruistic players are the main losers in the Bluegill Sunbass Game: they keep the game alive but contribute to their own defeat. In our experiment, the most altruistic players tended to be the females and the individual sports specialists

Occurrence and stratigraphy of Coccolithus pelagicus in ODP Hole 120-747A

A record based on counts of the relative abundance of the dominant calcareous nannofossil taxa Coccolithus pelagicus and Reticulofenestra spp. in sediments recovered from Ocean Drilling Program Hole 747A (Kerguelen Plateau, Southern Indian Ocean) is established in this paper. This record (17 m.y. long) virtually spans the entire Miocene. Broad, steplike variations in the abundance of C. pelagicus range between 0% and 96%. Based on these variations, five stratigraphic units characterized by high abundance in C. pelagicus are delineated. We suggest that these variations are caused by water-mass movements (such as the north/south shifting of a front). This pronounced signal is compared with paleoceanographic events revealed by isotopic (d18O and d13C) studies. The five defined units are tentatively correlated to well-known global isotopic events. In particular, Units A and D correlate respectively with the Oligocene/Miocene boundary glaciation and the middle Miocene cooling event. Time-series analysis indicates the presence of the three main periodic components of the eccentricity of the Earth's orbit. A 200-k.y. cycle is also present. The stratigraphic and paleoceanographic significance of this record is discussed.

Hydrocarbons, sterols and alkenones at time series station KERFIX

Hydrocarbons, sterols and alkenones were analyzed in samples collected from a 10 month sediment trap time series deployed in the Indian Ocean sector of the Southern Ocean. Fluxes and within-class distributions varied seasonally. During higher mass and organic carbon (OC) flux periods, which occurred in austral summer and fall, fresh marine inputs were predominant. Vertical fluxes were most intense in January, but limited to one week in duration. They were, however, low compared with other oceanic regions. In contrast, low mass and OC flux periods were characterized by a strong unresolved complex mixture (UCM) in the hydrocarbon fraction and a high proportion of stanols as a result of zooplanktonic grazing. Terrigenous inputs were not detectable. The alkenone compositions were consistent with previous data on suspended particles from Antarctic waters. However, UK'37 values diverged from the linear and exponential fits established by Sikes et al. (1997, doi:10.1016/S0016-7037(97)00017-3) in the low temperature range. The seasonal pattern of alkenone production implied that IPT (integrated production temperature) is likely to be strongly imprinted by austral summer and fall SST (sea surface temperature).
