Current conventional cross-sectional imaging techniques, such as contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are largely inaccurate in detecting local recurrence after radical prostatectomy. We report on five patients with biochemical recurrence after radical retropubic prostatectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection for whom local recurrence could only be detected with diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI. Prior to DW-MRI, all patients had negative digital rectal examinations, negative or equivocal conventional cross-sectional imaging, and negative bone scans. All suspicious lesions on DW-MRI imaging were histologically proved to be local recurrences of prostate cancer after either transrectal ultrasound-guided or transurethral biopsy. These results should encourage other centres to test our findings.

This article examines religious practices in the United States, which govern modesty and other dress norms for men. I focus both on the spaces within which they most collide with regulatory regimes of the state and the legal implications of these norms, particularly for observant Muslim men. Undergirding the research are those ‘‘gender equality’’ claims made by many religious adherents, that men are required to maintain proper modesty norms just as are women. Also undergirding the research is the extensive anti-Islam bias in American culture today. The spaces within which men’s religiously proscribed dress and grooming norms are most at issue—indicated by First Amendment legal challenges to rights of religious practice—are primarily those state-controlled, total institutions Goffman describes, such as in the military and prisons. The implications of gendered modesty norms are important, as state control over religious expression in prisons, for example, is much more difficult to contest than in other spaces, although this depends entirely on who is doing the contesting and within which religious context. In American society today—and particularly within the context of growing Islamaphobia following the 9/11 attacks—the implications are greatest for those men practicing ‘‘prison Islam.’’

We characterize positive quadratic hyponormality of the weighted shift W-alpha(x) associated to the weight sequence alpha(x) : 1, 1, root x, (root u, root v, root w)(Lambda) with Stampfli recursive tail, and produce an interval in x with non-empty interior in the positive real line for quadratic hyponormality but not positive quadratic hyponormality for such a shift. Diagnosis, staging, and treatment monitoring are still suboptimal for most genitourinary tumours. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) has already shown promise as a noninvasive imaging modality in the early detection of microstructural and functional changes in several pathologies of various organs.

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has become a reference MRI technique for the evaluation of neurological disorders. Few publications have investigated the application of DWI for inflammatory demyelinating lesions. The purpose of the study was to describe diffusion-weighted imaging characteristics of acute, spinal demyelinating lesions.

To assess whether diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) including bi-exponential fitting helps to detect residual/recurrent tumours after (chemo)radiotherapy of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma.
