Transcript [original spelling and grammar retained]: Sacketts Harbour 26th Sept. 1813. Dear wife. From this you are informed that I am in health at this Date. When I last wrote to you I some expected to go upon and expedition but to us unknown we sat out and went up the Lake 3 Days Landed at Oswego The British Fleet appeared off, and we returned and saw our fleet upon our return, I think that our Regt. going was only a maneuver to get the Fleet out that our Fleet might come a threat[?] of them We expect to embark immediately into Canada as preparations are making to convey us over to them we are anxious to commence an action with them. Troops are daily coming in to the Harbour to take the Stand in our absence, we shall not be here 3 days before we try their[?] Powder. they are daily defecting[?] to us from Canada very fearful of the consequence of our Resisting[?] of them…our Fleet is now out and has been for 6 or 7 days. The Lake Erie fleet has done great things. I hope ours will be as successful. I think that our Generals are waiting to hear from them as every thing is ready[?] of to embark various opinions reflecting were we shall attack them some say at Kingston others at Montreal and others at Prescot—Mr. William Butler and D[?]…are well and in Spirits, Sergt Daniel White is very hearty for him, M. Samuel C[?] is well and in good health Benjm Thompson is well Charles Bryant is well [?] is well Eben[?] Smith is very much plagued with the Rheumatik Disease[?] he……… his limbs very often for being Crippled[?] he is at the Hospital I often visit it to see the sick Jacob Barnes is at the Hospital but recovering fast been very sick. Luther Gregory is at the Hospital and on the recovery, Sergt. L[?] & Smith are well, Henry ………[?] is well, very healthy have not more die here than 3…[?]to the best of my knowledge. I will make a few remarks upon the place it abounds in Lime Rock more than Thomaston and not every person to my knowledge burn it, and in the whole Town not but one Pump that supplies the Towns People and Soldiers and a ………[?] of such a Lake of water the Lake water is good for drinking but the water near the Shore is exposed to all kind of filth being thrown into it. The officers with whom I have been with have used me kindly and I get quietly by them. The Lieut. Downer who recruits at Thomaston tell me he has thots[?] of Leaving the army if so I must say I am greatly sorry as he was my ……[?] friend although he Left us and went in a northern Company it is a Company……………[?]worthy an officer as he proves to be, I cannot get any higher than a Sergeant or Quarter Master Sergeant which I may have without any friends at Thomaston assisting me. I am a Sergeant and Sergeant Daniel White is expecting[?] to be a Quarter Master Sergeant, and a number of his friends from Thomaston have went to their Major for him in the 9th Regt Major….[?] and he expects to obtain a Commission as I ……[?] expect to be promoted and it died away he will have the Laugh upon me, I wish that My Friend Dawes would[?] put the question to Col. The Impact of Hospital Downsizing on Registered Nurses Displaced from Full -Time Employment

This research identified and explored the various responses of ten women Registered Nurses displaced from full-time employment as staff nurses in general hospitals in southern Ontario. These nurses were among the hundreds in Ontario who were displaced between October 1991 and October 1995 as a result of organizational downsizing and other health care reform initiatives. The purpose of this research was to document the responses of nurses to job displacement, and how that experience impacted on a nurse's professional identity and her understanding of the nature and utilization of nursing labour. This study incorporated techniques consistent with the principles of naturalistic inquiry and the narrative tradition. A purposive sample was drawn from the Health Sector Training and Adjustment Program database. Data collection and analysis was a three-step process wherein the data collection in each step was informed by the data analysis in the preceding step. The main technique used for qualitative data collection was semistructured, individual and group interviews. Emerging from the data was a rich and textured story of how job displacement disrupted the meaningful connections nurses had with their work. In making meaning of this change, displaced nurses journeyed along a three-step path toward labour adjustment. Structural analysis was the interpretive lens used to view the historical, sociopolitical and ideological forces which constrained the choices reasonably available to displaced nurses while Kelly's personal construct theory was the lens used to view the process of making choices and reconstruing their professional identity.

The Family Game: A Parent Education Intervention to Increase Positive Parent-Child Interactions in Parents with Learning Difficulties

Children of parents with learning difficulties (LD) are at risk for a variety of developmental problems including behavioural and psychiatric disorders. However, there are no empirically supported programs to prevent behavioural and psychiatric problems in these children. The purpose of the study was to test the effectiveness of a parenting intervention designed to teach parents with learning difficulties positive child behaviour management strategies. A multiple baseline across skills design was used with two parents, who were taught three skills: 1) clear instructions, 2) recognition of compliance and 3) correction of noncompliance. Training scores improved on each skill and maintained at a 1-month follow-up. Scores on generalization cards were high and showed maintenance, but improvements in parenting skills in the naturalistic environment were low at posttest and follow-up. Increases were seen in child compliance at posttest and 1-month follow-up. Results of pre-post social validity measures were also generally positive.

Letter- Michael H. Wilson to Donald Ziraldo, 1993

A letter from Michael H. Wilson, Minister of Industry, Science and Technology and Minister of International Trade, dated 7 May, 1993. He discusses the achievements of Inniskillin in the "Vinitaly" wine exhibition. Wilson also remarks on the great accomplishments of Mr. Ziraldo as chairman of the Ontario Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA).

Letter - Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau to Donald Ziraldo

A letter from Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau to Donald Ziraldo, dated 19 December, 1983. Trudeau had visited the Inniskillin winery the same year and remarks on the conversation they shared. Also a thank you note for a bottle of wine from Ziraldo for the holidays.

Memo Re: The 70th General Assembly of O.I.V., 1990

A memo from Donald Ziraldo to the Board of Directors of the VQA and C.W.I. in regards to the 70th General Assembly of O.I.V. The memo is dated 24 September, 1990 and discusses conversations with the Director of O.I.V. and Canada (and Quebec's) possible membership. The memo also remarks "there was a noticeable absence of EEC delegates". One delegate was part of the O.I.V. Assembly and there were informal discussions with him in regards to Canada's request for recognition.

Propaganda - "They Don't Want Swamps and Jungles"

The pamphlet was originally broadcast over CBC radio March 1, 1942. The inside cover remarks about the public response and the return of the author, Eric Knight to participate in ongoing wartime talks. The pamphlet discusses the life of the British during World War II compared to that of Canadians, "Do you not see that wealth is not money...but a way of living?".

Letter - E.C. Schmon to Arthur A. Schmon, 25 February 1920

This letter remarks on the arrival of spring and Eleanore Celeste soon reuniting with Arthur. She describes some pain concerning a wisdom tooth cutting and stepping on a tack and then stubbing her foot on her bed. This letter is labelled number 135.

Letter - E.C. Schmon to Arthur A. Schmon, 14 February 1920

This letter is decorated for Valentine's Day. There is a red cut out hard included that reads "To my Valentine from your Valentine xxxxxx". The second part of the letter talks about how to get to Shelter Bay and Eleanore Celeste remarks "So you do not think it advisable for me to make the trip to Shelter Bay by dog team! Let me tell you dearest, that I wouldn't mind if I had to walk there." These letters are labelled number 126 and 127.

Letter - E.C. Schmon to Arthur A. Schmon, 13 July 1918

Eleanore Celeste discusses going to the theatre alone and remarks "these war times are making girls independent". She also mentions her studies and how much she enjoys learning. She has enclosed an article titled "Heroes of our Army Parade in Paris". The letter is labelled number 127.

Report From Ottawa, 23 February 1973

A report from Sean O'Sullivan for the 23rd of February 1973. His report remarks on the week at Parliament Hill. He provides a report for each week. He remarks on "Mr. Turner's latest budget" and the economic problems in Canada. He discusses taxes, old age pensions and he mentions tax change measures he recommends.

Letter - Sean O'Sullivan to J. Diefenbaker, April 1968

The letter begins by thanking J. Diefenbaker for a personal note and other mementos. O'Sullivan then begins to discuss Trudeau and his popularity, he remarks "If he calls an early election, he will sweep the Country. Truly he is a phenomenon, thanks to the press of Canada. However, the press are a fickle lot and could easily turn their marriage to him into a divorce under the new rules he had Parliament pass." He also discusses his opinion of how the provinces will vote in an upcoming election.
