L’objectiu d’aquest treball és analitzar la inclusió d’un infant amb deficiència visual durant l’etapa d’Educació Infantil, amb la finalitat d’establir propostes de millora al centre encaminades a potenciar mesures per a la inclusió de tot l’alumnat. Per a la realització d’aquest estudi primerament ha estat necessari conèixer la fonamentació teòrica del concepte de visió i d’inclusió escolar, així com també les implicacions per part del centre, la família i l’entorn. Per a realitzar aquest anàlisi hem utilitzat entrevistes i pautes d’observació validades, amb la finalitat de conèixer més a fons la trajectòria de l’infant a l’etapa d’Educació Infantil, sempre des d’una concepció interaccionista, és a dir, tenint en compte l’àmbit escolar, familiar i l’entorn. I ja per acabar, aquest anàlisi ha servit per a proposar propostes de millora per a la inclusió de futurs alumnes en el centre.

Background: oscillatory activity, which can be separated in background and oscillatory burst pattern activities, is supposed to be representative of local synchronies of neural assemblies. Oscillatory burst events should consequently play a specific functional role, distinct from background EEG activity – especially for cognitive tasks (e.g. working memory tasks), binding mechanisms and perceptual dynamics (e.g. visual binding), or in clinical contexts (e.g. effects of brain disorders). However extracting oscillatory events in single trials, with a reliable and consistent method, is not a simple task. Results: in this work we propose a user-friendly stand-alone toolbox, which models in a reasonable time a bump time-frequency model from the wavelet representations of a set of signals. The software is provided with a Matlab toolbox which can compute wavelet representations before calling automatically the stand-alone application. RAPPORT DE SYNTHÈSE : Les profils des granules cytotoxiques des cellules T CD8 mémoires sont corrélés à la fonction, à leur état de différentiation et à l'exposition à l'antigène. Les lymphocytes T-CD8 cytotoxiques exercent leur fonction antivirale et antitumorale surtout par la sécrétion des granules cytotoxiques. En général, ce sont l'activité de dégranulation et les granules cytotoxiques (contenant perforine et différentes granzymes) qui définissent les lymphocytes T-CD8 cytotoxiques. Dans cette étude, nous avons investigué l'expression de granzyme K par cytométrie en flux, en comparaison avec l'expression de granzyme A, granzyme B et de perforine. L'expression des granules cytotoxiques a été déterminée dans lymphocytes T-CD8 qui étaient spécifiques pour des différents virus, en particulier spécifique pour le virus d'influenza (flu), le virus Ebstein Barr (EBV), le virus de cytomégalie (CMV) et le virus de l'immunodéficience humaine (HIV). Nous avons observé une dichotomie entre l'expression du granzyme K et de la perforine dans les lymphocytes T-CD8 qui étaient spécifiques aux virus mentionnés. Les profils des lymphocytes T-CD8 spécifiques à flu étaient positifs soit pour granzyme A et granzyme K soit pour le granzyme K seul, mais dans l'ensemble négatifs pour perforine et granzyme B. Les cellules spécifiques à CMV étaient dans la plupart positives pour perforine, granzyme B et A, mais négatives pour le granzyme K. Les cellules spécifiques à EBV et HIV étaient dans la majorité positives pour granzyme A, B et K, et dans la moitié des cas négatives pour la perforine. Nous avons également analysé, selon les marqueurs de mémoire de CD45 et CD127, les profils de différentiation cellulaire: Les cellules avec les granules cytotoxiques contenant exclusivement le granzyme K, étaient associées à un état de différentiation précoce. Au contraire, les protéines cytolytiques perforine, granzyme A et B, correspondent à une différentiation avancée. En outre, les protéines perforine et granzyme B, mais pas les granzymes A et K, sont corrélées à une activité cytotoxique. Finalement, des changements dans l'exposition d'antigène in vitro et in vivo suivant une infection primaire d' HIV ou une vaccination modulent le profil de granules cytotoxiques. Ces résultats nous permettent d'étendre la compréhension de la relation entre les différents profils de granules cytotoxiques des lymphocytes T-CD8 et leur fonction, leur état de différentiation et l'exposition à l'antigène.

We report the case study of a French-Spanish bilingual dyslexic girl, MP, who exhibited a severe visual attention (VA) span deficit but preserved phonological skills. Behavioural investigation showed a severe reduction of reading speed for both single items (words and pseudo-words) and texts in the two languages. However, performance was more affected in French than in Spanish. MP was administered an intensive VA span intervention programme. Pre-post intervention comparison revealed a positive effect of intervention on her VA span abilities. The intervention further transferred to reading. It primarily resulted in faster identification of the regular and irregular words in French. The effect of intervention was rather modest in Spanish that only showed a tendency for faster word reading. Text reading improved in the two languages with a stronger effect in French but pseudo-word reading did not improve in either French or Spanish. The overall results suggest that VA span intervention may primarily enhance the fast global reading procedure, with stronger effects in French than in Spanish. MP underwent two fMRI sessions to explore her brain activations before and after VA span training. Prior to the intervention, fMRI assessment showed that the striate and extrastriate visual cortices alone were activated but none of the regions typically involved in VA span. Post-training fMRI revealed increased activation of the superior and inferior parietal cortices. Comparison of pre- and post-training activations revealed significant activation increase of the superior parietal lobes (BA 7) bilaterally. Thus, we show that a specific VA span intervention not only modulates reading performance but further results in increased brain activity within the superior parietal lobes known to housing VA span abilities. Furthermore, positive effects of VA span intervention on reading suggest that the ability to process multiple visual elements simultaneously is one cause of successful reading acquisition.

To study telomere length dynamics in hematopoietic cells with age, we analyzed the average length of telomere repeat sequences in diverse populations of nucleated blood cells. More than 500 individuals ranging in age from 0 to 90 yr, including 36 pairs of monozygous and dizygotic twins, were analyzed using quantitative fluorescence in situ hybridization and flow cytometry. Granulocytes and naive T cells showed a parallel biphasic decline in telomere length with age that most likely reflected accumulated cell divisions in the common precursors of both cell types: hematopoietic stem cells. Telomere loss was very rapid in the first year, and continued for more than eight decades at a 30-fold lower rate. Memory T cells also showed an initial rapid decline in telomere length with age. However, in contrast to naive T cells, this decline continued for several years, and in older individuals lymphocytes typically had shorter telomeres than did granulocytes. Our findings point to a dramatic decline in stem cell turnover in early childhood and support the notion that cell divisions in hematopoietic stem cells and T cells result in loss of telomeric DNA.

Visual areas 17 and 18 were studied with morphometric methods for numbers of neurons, glia, senile plaques (SP), and neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) in 13 cases of Alzheimer's disease (AD) as compared to 11 controls. In AD cases, the mean neuronal density was significantly decreased by about 30% in both areas 17 and 18, while the glial density was increased significantly only in area 17. The volume of area 17 was unchanged in AD cases but its total number of neurons was decreased by 33% and its total number of glia increased by 45% compared to controls. In AD the number of SP was similar in areas 17 and 18, while that of NFT was significantly higher in area 18. The number of neurons with NFT was only 2% in area 17 and about 10% in area 18. The discrepancy between the loss of neurons and the amount of NFT suggests that neuronal loss can occur without passing through NFT degeneration. The deposition of SP was correlated with glial proliferation, but not with neuronal loss or neurofibrillary degeneration.

The most extensively studied Heusler alloys are those based on the Ni-Mn-Ga system. However, to overcome the high cost of Gallium and the usually low martensitic transformation temperature, the search for Ga-free alloys has been recently attempted, particularly, by introducing In, Sn or Sb. In this work, two alloys (Mn50Ni35.5In14.5 and Ni50Mn35In15) have been obtained by melt spinning. We outline their structural and thermal behaviour. Mn50Ni35.5In14.5 alloy has the transformation above room temperature whereas Ni50Mn35In15 does not have this transformation in the temperature range here analyzed

Purpose: C57/Bl6, Cpfl1-/- (Cone photoreceptors function loss 1; pure rod function), Gnat1alpha-/- (rod alpha-transducin; pure cone function) and Rpe65-/-;Rho-/- double knock-out mice were studied in order to distinguish the respective contributions of the different photoreceptor (PR) systems that enable light perception and mediate a visual reflex in adult Rpe65-/- mice using a simple behavioural procedure. Methods: Visual function was estimated using a rotating automatized optomotor drum covered with vertical black and white stripes at spatial frequencies of 0.025 to 0.5 cycles per degree (cpd) in both photopic and scotopic conditions. To evaluate the contribution as well as the light intensity threshold of each PR system, we tested the mouse strains with different luminances. Results: Stripe rotation elicits head movements in wild-type (WT) animals in photopic and scotopic conditions depending on the spatial frequency, whereas Cpfl1-/- mice show a reduced activity in the photopic condition and Gnat1alpha-/- mice an almost absent response in the scotopic condition. Interestingly, a robust visual response is obtained with Rpe65-/- knockout mice at 0.075 cpd and 0.1 cpd in the photopic condition. The residual rod function in the Rpe65-/- animals was demonstrated by testing Rpe65-/-;Rho-/- mice that present no response in photopic conditions. Conclusions: The optomotor test is a simple method to estimate the visual function, and to evaluate the respective contributions of rod and cone systems. Using this test, we demonstrate that in Rpe65-/- mice, devoid of functional cones and of detectable 11-cis-retinal protein, rods mimic in part the cone function by mediating vision in photopic conditions.

Two spatial tasks were designed to test specific properties of spatial representation in rats. In the first task, rats were trained to locate an escape hole at a fixed position in a visually homogeneous arena. This arena was connected with a periphery where a full view of the room environment existed. Therefore, rats were dependent on their memory trace of the previous position in the periphery to discriminate a position within the central region. Under these experimental conditions, the test animals showed a significant discrimination of the training position without a specific local view. In the second task, rats were trained in a radial maze consisting of tunnels that were transparent at their distal ends only. Because the central part of the maze was non-transparent, rats had to plan and execute appropriate trajectories without specific visual feedback from the environment. This situation was intended to encourage the reliance on prospective memory of the non-visited arms in selecting the following move. Our results show that acquisition performance was only slightly decreased compared to that shown in a completely transparent maze and considerably higher than in a translucent maze or in darkness. These two series of experiments indicate (1) that rats can learn about the relative position of different places with no common visual panorama, and (2) that they are able to plan and execute a sequence of visits to several places without direct visual feed-back about their relative position.

Working memory, commonly defined as the ability to hold mental representations on line transiently and to manipulate these representations, is known to be a core deficit in schizophrenia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the visuo-spatial component of the working memory in schizophrenia, and more precisely to what extent the dynamic visuo-spatial information processing is impaired in schizophrenia patients. For this purpose we used a computerized paradigm in which 29 patients with schizophrenia (DSMIV, Diagnostic Interview for Genetic Studies) and 29 age and sex matched control subjects (DIGS) had to memorize a plane moving across the computer screen and to identify the observed trajectory among 9 plots proposed together. Each trajectory could be seen max. 3 times if needed. The results showed no difference between schizophrenia patients and controls regarding the number of correct trajectory identified after the first presentation. However, when we determine the mean number of correct trajectories on the basis of 3 trials, we observed that schizophrenia patients are significantly less performant than controls (Mann-Whitney, p _ 0.002). These findings suggest that, although schizophrenia patients are able to memorize some dynamic trajectories as well as controls, they do not profit from the repetition of the trajectory presentation. These findings are congruent with the hypothesis that schizophrenia could induce an unbalance between local and global information processing: the patients may be able to focus on details of the trajectory which could allow them to find the right target (bottom-up processes), but may show difficulty to refer to previous experience in order to filter incoming information (top-down processes) and enhance their visuo-spatial working memory abilities.
