Deformation bands are structures, developed in porous sandstones, that has small offsets and they are not shown on seismic section. The deformation bands of the pre and synrift sandstones of Araripe Basin were studied in outcrop, macroscopic and microscopic scales. The hierarchical, cinematic and spatial-geometric characteristics, and also the deformational mechanisms acting during its structural evolution were established too. In general, the mesoscopic scale observation allowed to discriminate deformation bands as singles or clusters in three main sets: NNE-SSW dextral; NE-SW normal (sometimes with strike-slip offset); and E-W sinistral; further a bed-parallel deformation bands as a local set. The microscopic characterization allowed to recognize the shearing and cataclastic character of such structures. Through the multi-scale study done in this work we verified that deformation bands analyzed were preferentially developed when sandstones under advanced stage of lithification. We also infer that the geometrical-spatial complexity of these bands, together with the presence of cataclastic matrix, can difficult the migration of fluids in reservoir rocks, resulting on their compartmentalization. Therefore, the study of deformation bands can aid researches about the structural evolution of sedimentary basin, as well as collaborate to understand the hydrodynamic behavior of reservoirs compartmented by these deformational structures

Purpose: The aims of this study were to evaluate the trends in funding, geographic origin, and study types of original articles in the dental implant literature and to investigate the relationships among these factors. Materials and Methods: Articles published in Clinical Oral Implants Research, The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants, Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, Implant Dentistry, and Journal of Oral Implantology from 2005 to 2009 were reviewed. Nonoriginal articles were excluded. For each article included, extramural funding source, geographic origin, and study type were recorded. Descriptive and analytic analyses (alpha = .05), including a logistic regression analysis, and chi-square test were used where appropriate. Results: of a total of 2,085 articles published, 1,503 met the inclusion criteria. The most common source of funding was from industry (32.4%). The proportion of studies that reported funding increased significantly over time. Europe represented the highest percentage (55.8%) of published articles. Most of the articles reported on clinical studies (49.9%), followed by animal studies (25.9%). Articles from Asia and South America and animal and in vitro studies were significantly more likely to be funded. Conclusion: Almost half of the original dental implant articles were funded. The trend toward internationalization of authorship was evident. A strong association was observed between funding and geographic origin and between funding and study type. Most studies in North America and Europe were clinical studies and supported by industry, whereas a greater proportion of studies in Asia and South America were in vitro or animal studies funded through government resources. We present a measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry (A(FB)) in pp -> Z/gamma(*)+X -> e(+)e(-)+X events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 1.1 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A(FB) is measured as a function of the invariant mass of the electron-positron pair, and found to be consistent with the standard model prediction. We use the A(FB) measurement to extract the effective weak mixing angle sin(2)theta(eff)(W)=0.2326 +/- 0.0018(stat)+/- 0.0006(syst).

We study the problem of covariant separation between first and second class constraints for the D = 10 Brink-Schwarz superparticle. Opposite to the supersymmetric light-cone frame separation, we show here that there is a Lorentz covariant way to identify the second class constraints such that, however, supersymmetry is broken. Consequences for the D = 10 superstring are briefly discussed.

We have compared the recently introduced generalized simulated annealing (GSA) with conventional simulated annealing (CSA). GSA was tested as a tool to obtain the ground-state geometry of molecules. We have used selected silicon clusters (Sin, n=4-7,10) as test cases. Total energies were calculated through tight-binding molecular dynamics. We have found that the replacement of Boltzmann statistics (CSA) by Tsallis's statistics (GSA) has the potential to speed up optimizations with no loss of accuracy. Next, we applied the GSA method to study the ground-state geometry of a 20-atom silicon cluster. We found an original geometry, apparently lower in energy than those previously described in the literature.
