The response of bone metabolism is directly related to hormonal factors and mechanical stimuli that the bone is exposed. The ultrasonic energy on bone healing have been shown to be crucial for the stimulation and improvement in quality of newly formed tissue. The aim of this study was to analyze the action of low intensity ultrasound on bone healing of tibial osteotomy in rats subjected to tail suspension, through histological analysis and histomorphometry. Eighteen Rattus norvegicus albinos, Wistar, adults were divided into three groups, arranged as follows: G1 (n = 6), who remained free for a period of 15 days, G2 (n = 5), suspended by the tail for a period of 15 days and G3 (n = 7), suspended by the tail for a period of 36 days. In all three groups, both tibias were subjected to mono-cortical bone injury 4X2 mm in the medial region of the diaphysis, and the left limb was used as control and the right limb undergoing treatment with ultrasound (U.S.). The right tibia was treated with pulsed ultrasound at a frequency of 1.5 MHz, duty cycle 1:4, 30mW/cm2, for 12 sessions of 20 minutes each. Samples of tibia were subjected to histological analysis, blindly, with light microscopy and histomorphometric analysis by specific software Image-Pro 6.1. The average percentage of new bone formation were subjected to analysis of variance in subdivided parcels and multiple comparison test "Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK), with a significance level of 5%. The average values and standard deviations of the percentage of newly formed bone for the groups showed the least amount of bone repair G1t (13.62% ± 4.88%) - G1c (8.68% ± 4.16%) compared G2t groups (27.17% ± 11.36%) - G2c (10.10% ± 7.90%) and G3t (23.19% ± 5.61%) - G3c (15.74% ± 7 08%). However, the mean values and standard deviations of the percentage of newly formed bone repair in the tibia treated G2t and G3t were significantly higher when compared to the repair of tibia in the control group (G2c and G3c). Consequently, we conclude that ultrasound has helped to accelerate bone repair in both the presence and absence of cargo.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of the polymer histomorphometrically castor during the healing process of defects of critical size calvarial preparations in rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty animals underwent a surgical procedure that was to be held in the calvaria of each animal a critical defect of 8 mm in diameter with a drill trephine. The rats were divided into two groups according to the following procedures: group C received no treatment and the bone defect site was filled with blood clot, group M, the bone defect was filled with castor oil polymer particles. The animals were sacrificed 180 days after the surgical procedures. After routine laboratory procedures the specimens were subjected to analysis histomorphometric. Results: In groups C the newly formed bone tissue was well developed, with adjacent areas of osteoid matrix rich in osteoblasts, and restricted to the vicinity of the edges of the defect. In animals of group M was observed newly formed lamellar bone tissue restricted to the vicinity of the defect edges and particles of polymer Castor distributed throughout the defect. There was a higher percentage of newly formed bone area was statistically significant in group C compared to animals in group M. Conclusions: Within the limits of this study can conclude that the castor oil polymer is biocompatible and had kept the area during the healing of critical size defects in surgically prepared rat calvariae.

Introduction: It has been suggested that bone grafts combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) present greater density than bone grafts without PRP after healing process. However, this result may depend on proportion PRP/autogenous bone (AB) graft used. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze radiographically the influence of the proportion PRP/particulate autogenous bone (AB) graft on bone healing in surgically created criticalsize defects (CSD) in rat calvaria. Material and method: 50 rats were divided into 5 groups: C, AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. A 5 mm diameter CSD was created in the calvarium of each animal. In Group C the defect was filled by blood clot only. In Group AB the defect was filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft. In groups AB/ RP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150 the defects were filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft combined with 50, 100 and 150 µL of PRP, respectively. All animals were euthanized at 30 days post-operative. Standardized radiographic images of the rat calvaria were obtained using Digora System (Soredex, Finland). The images were evaluated by three examiners using scores that indicated the percentage of radiopacity of the defect. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis (Kruskal-Wallis test, p < 0.05). Result: Group C presented radiopacity significantly lower than groups AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. Group AB/PRP-50 showed radiopacity significantly greater than groups AB/PRP-100 and AB. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the proportion PRP/AB graft influences bone healing in CSD in rat calvaria.

The oral rehabilitation now has a powerful ally: the dental implants. There is no denying the importance of the implant within the context of dental practice. Initially indicated for the rehabilitation of fully edentulous patients, now has gained growing space, with indications for partial edentulism, multiple unit, with high predictability of success in esthetic restorations, combined with the techniques of manipulation of soft tissues, and guided tissue regenerationearly prosthetic loading. But like any dental procedure, whether surgical or medical implantology is also subject to the occurrence of failures and complications. This paper aims to provide a review of the literature for discussion of these complications, their causes, their managements and proservation.

Nine swines of the White Large race were used for study of the process of bony repair after osteotomy with rotating instruments of low and high-speed, with and without liquid refrigeration. The authors observed, through double blind histopathological analysis, that in every analyzed operative time, the bony repair was processed more appropriately when the osteotomies were accomplished with liquid refrigeration. In the final postoperative times, of fourteen and twenty-eight days, the best results of bony repair were observed in the osteotomy accomplished with drills of low rotation and with liquid refrigeration, while in the postoperative time of seven days, the results of the bony repair of osteotomy accomplished with drills of high rotation and with liquid refrigeration they were better. The authors consider, still, that the process of bony repair in swine display larger proximity in the histological pictures among the studied variables, when compared with other biological models. As most of the works told in the literature it refers the use of dogs, the authors consider that the present work guarantees your importance in the sense of looking for a closer model of the man.

Few studies has been done using guided bone regeneration in maxillary sinus defects. AIM: To assess the bone repair process in surgical defects on the alveolar wall of the monkey maxillary sinus, which communicates with the sinus cavity, by using collagen membranes: Gen-derm - Genius Baumer, Pro-tape - Proline and autologous temporal fascia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective and experimental study, orosinusal communications were performed in four tufted capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) and histologic analysis was carried out 180 days after. RESULTS: In the defects without a cover (control), bone proliferation predominated in two animals and fibrous connective tissue predominated in the other two. In defects repaired with a temporal fascia flap, fibrous connective tissue predominated in three animals and bone proliferation predominated in one. In the defects repaired with Gen-derm or Pro-tape collagen membranes there was complete bone proliferation in three animals and fibrous connective tissue in one. CONCLUSIONS: Surgical defect can be repaired with both bone tissue and fibrous connective tissue in all study groups; collagen membranes was more beneficial in the bone repair process than temporal fascia or absence of a barrier.

Bone is a specialized connective tissue, vascular and dynamic changes over the life of the organism. When injured, has a unique ability to regenerate and repair without the presence of scars, but in some situations due to the size of the defect, the bone tissue does not regenerate so completely, it is necessary to carry out bone grafting procedures. Considering there are various types of grafts and various donor sites. Thus, the aim of this study was to review the literature to some type of graft most commonly used in dentistry. Given the importance of bone reconstruction in oral and maxillofacial surgery, it is necessary to know the viability and influence of biomaterials, or not associated with autogenous grafts in bone repair. Even this, with many qualities, but further studies should be done to achieve each day, a synthetic material compatible with bone tissue lost in adequate amounts without requiring extra-oral surgeries that are considered to be devoted to higher morbidity.
