A facile method for the synthesis of Au/PEDOT:PSS nanocomposite

In this work, we have successfully synthesized Au nanoparticles (NPs) in situ in PEDOT:PSS deploying a room temperature atmospheric pressure microplasma. The size of the AuNPs is a function of the gold salt precursor concentration and the plasma processing time. The Au/polymer colloids after processing remain well dispersed over a prolonged period of time. Both gold salt concentration and the plasma processing time have influence on the electrical conductivity of the dried Au/PEDOT:PSS nanocomposite films. An enhanced electrical conductivity of the Au/PEDOT:PSS nanocomposite films has been attributed to (i) the interfacial ligand formation between the S atoms in PEDOT:PSS molecules and the Au surface and (ii) charge transfer from the AuNPs to the holes of PEDOT:PSS molecules.

Oscar, Constance, Speranza (and Bosie) are “at home” in the exquisitely beautiful Florence Court House this Mayday weekend. House guests will include Jack, Algy, Gwendolen and Cecily from the Importance of Being Earnest, (not to mention the redoubtable Lady Bracknell), Lord and Lady Windermere, the impetuous Lord Darlington, and the precocious Dorian Gray. Listening to ‘Generation Jacobs’; A Case Study in Participative Engagement for a Child-Friendly City

This paper reflects on the enduring value of Jane Jacobs’ Life and Death of American Cities in the context of Child-Friendly Cities. This is explored through a project in Belfast which has engaged primary school children in how they understand their local environment. This shows that while children can effectively contribute to policy debates, there is a need to express this in a way that can be more effectively assimilated into planning debates. The paper reflects on this experience, suggesting that ‘Generation Jacobs’ could be used as a rhetorical device to frame children’s needs in a way that can be better understood by the planning profession.
