Electricity load and price forecasting with influential factors in a deregulated power industry

With the emergence of smart power grid and distributed generation technologies in recent years, there is need to introduce new advanced models for forecasting. Electricity load and price forecasts are two primary factors needed in a deregulated power industry. The performances of the demand response programs are likely to be deteriorated in the absence of accurate load and price forecasting. Electricity generation companies, system operators, and consumers are highly reliant on the accuracy of the forecasting models. However, historical prices from the financial market, weekly price/load information, historical loads and day type are some of the explanatory factors that affect the accuracy of the forecasting. In this paper, a neural network (NN) model that considers different influential factors as feedback to the model is presented. This model is implemented with historical data from the ISO New England. It is observed during experiments that price forecasting is more complicated and hence less accurate than the load forecasting.

Interview with Paulus Pwaka Laveil

Paulus Pwaka Laveil is a Papua New Guinean who studied at The University of New England in 1991, and in 1996-1997. He studied on an Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) and during his two periods of study in Australia, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma, then a Masters degree, both in Business Administration. The interview was conducted in English on 2 October 2014 by Dr. Musawe Sinebare and Mr. James Gande, both of Pacific Adventist University. Trends in referral to outpatient cardiac rehabilitation in the Hunter Region of Australia, 2002-2007

BACKGROUND: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is an underutilized evidence-based treatment. We described trends in referral to outpatient CR (OCR) and the factors associated with referral. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey data provided by Hunter residents aged 20 years or older discharged from public hospitals in the region between 2002 and 2007 with an OCR eligible diagnosis were extracted from the Hunter New England Heart and Stroke Register database. METHODS: Trends in referral were determined using the chi test for trend. Factors associated with referral were examined using multiple logistic regression. RESULTS: Sixty-five percent (4971 of 7678) of patients provided sufficient data for inclusion in the analysis. Approximately half of the patients reported being referred to OCR. No increase over time was observed. Factors associated with referral were age less than 70 years, male sex, being married, urban residence, at least one admission to the tertiary referral hospital for cardiology, at least one admission for acute myocardial infarction, revascularization, no admissions for congestive heart failure, a self-reported history of high cholesterol, and no history of stroke or atrial fibrillation. CONCLUSION: Access to this treatment of proven benefit remained suboptimal despite the provision of new programs and expansion of existing programs. Automatic referral, which is recommended in Australia, should be standard practice.

Demonstro como o acesso ao saber científico pode despertar e incentivar o reconhecimento da produção material de povos que não conheciam a escrita como parte de um processo de comunicação de suas regras sociais. Promovo ainda o interesse na preservação do patrimônio em estudo como parte constituinte da memória para entendimento da sociedade atual. O trabalho traz ainda o catálogo: Cerâmica Marajoara: a comunicação do silêncio que enfatiza a necessidade de divulgar os objetos contidos em coleções com o propósito de partilhar o conhecimento científico com a sociedade.

Ditadura, arquivo e memória: notas para um estudo sobre o caso Organização Política Operária (Polop)

A dissertação discute o processo de construção social dos arquivos e sua vinculação com a produção e difusão de narrativas memoriais, partindo da análise de um caso específico - a construção da memória da Política Operária (Polop) e a produção de um arquivo histórico da organização por parte de seus antigos militantes. Busca-se evidenciar como esse arquivo é produzido material e discursivamente pelo grupo, assim como pelas instituições custodiadoras, pelos profissionais de arquivo e pelas políticas públicas voltadas ao setor, que também exercem influência sobre a configuração adquirida por essas fontes históricas. Tomado, assim, menos como fonte e mais como objeto da investigação, o arquivo é compreendido como parte de um contexto de revisão memorial e historiográfica do período do regime militar (1964-1985), no qual adquire importância renovada. Deslocando-se o foco do conteúdo informacional dos arquivos em direção ao papel que desempenham enquanto matéria para a construção de novas narrativas históricas, busca-se problematizar a construção dessas fontes e entender como elas adquirem legitimidade como chaves de interpretação do passado.
