Nitric oxide (NO) is a free radical with participation in almost all physiologic host processes; however, in high concentrations it may damage the tissues. Its immunoregulatory action is present in the inflammation and in auto-immune mechanisms, being intensively studied in the medical area. Recently, some studies have also reported that NO could play a role as etiopathogenic factor of the periodontal disease, which shows inflammatory and multifactorial course. Due to beneficial or damage effects of NO, according to its concentrations, some studies have been focused in the evaluation of inhibitor of NO-Synthase (NOS) as therapeutic agents in inflammatory processes. In this context, the aim of this study was to report the role of NO and NOS inhibition in the periodontal disease modulation process. In conclusion, it could be suggested that NO seems to play an essential role in evolution of inflammatory periodontal disease, and that the NOS inhibition may be considered as a promising therapeutic in modulation of inflammatory process.

In a preliminary communication, we intend to reflect on thepossibilities of group psychotherapy based on the theory of Lacan. We startedfrom the premise that it could apply to group psychotherapy the sametheoretical basis of individual psychotherapy in which the psychoanalysis ofJacques Lacan is applied, with some modifications. Introducing theoreticalelements and reporting fragments of the practice of caring for a group in thisreference, so that it gives an idea of how this psychotherapeutic group works. The application of Lacan s psychoanalysis to the practice of group therapy hasshown results that seem to justify the continuation of this exercise ofintercession and research, and at the same time seems to allow to the theory ofgroups to cross the boundaries of imaginary. The group practice in thisreference has been shown as effective as individual psychotherapy in the fieldof Psychosocial Care.

In horses less than one year of age fractures of the third metacarpal bone (McIII) or metatarsal bone III (MtIII) are mainly attributed to trauma. Open reduction and internal fixation are the most common treatment method. A Quarter Horse filly with three months of age, which weighed 150kg presented a diaphyseal multifragmentar wedge fracture of right MtIII which was treated with transcortical pins and cast, associated with intralesional application of platelet rich plasma (PRP). After two years of surgery, the animal initiated a training program for racing, and six months later, the patient ran its first official match. The choice of therapeutic methods for treating fractures in horses should be one that provides an earlier repair and minor possibility of complications. Thus, the therapy association which was adopted was considered favorable, since allowed full reestablishment of locomotion of the patient and made possible its return to race.

Certain medicines are considered potentially inappropriate (PIM) for elderly people as they increase the risk of adverse drug events (ADE) and because safer alternative therapies are available on the market. In this context, in order to identify the instruments that assess the quality of medical prescriptions for elderly and to determine which drugs are considered PIM, a bibliographic survey was conducted in PUBMED, LILACS and PAHO databases, in February and March/2010. The search strategy included the use of health descriptors and a manual search in the references cited by selected papers. During the period of data collection, 15 instruments were identified. In 2012, with the publication of the update of Beers criteria, this instrument was included in the study. We identified 163 PIM of 25 therapeutic classes, of which 125 (76.7%) are marketed in Brazil. Of these, 31 (24.8%) are essential medicines (RENAME 2012), of which 13 have safer therapeutic equivalents and 19 (15.2%) are over-the-counter drugs. Data suggest the need for inclusion of safer alternatives for the elderly in the national list of essential medicines and the pharmaceutical care for early detection of ADE in this age group, in order to contribute to the safe use of medicines.

The recent advancements in the medical assessment of surgical risk based on the individual analysis of each case with availability of new therapeutic tools in reference to medical or dental treatment, allowing for new procedures that can be used in the execution of safer odontological surgery for each patients. This review of the literature shows the actual tendencies of the treatment of patients with Myocardial Infarction concerning specific care before, during and after surgery based on laboratory evaluation and drug therapy as well as the possibility of surgical treatment before six months post-infarction.
