Imagem corporal é um construto multifacetado que une desde a percepção até as atitudes das pessoas sobre seu próprio corpo e compreende o conceito que cada pessoa tem de seu corpo e a sua representação mental. A deficiência física e a construção negativa da imagem corporal pode fazer com que o auto-conceito do indivíduo também fique negativo, ampliando valores estigmatizantes, preconceituosos e que reforçam sentimentos de inferioridade, baixa auto-estima, exclusão social e depressão. A prática regular de exercício físico além de propiciar a reabilitação oferece benefícios para a saúde com vantagens fisiológicas (e.g. prevenção e redução de efeitos de doenças como diabetes, hipertensão, cardiopatia e osteoporose) e vantagens psico-sociais (e.g. redução de estresse, melhora na auto-estima e imagem corporal). A imagem corporal freqüentemente está associada com atitudes alimentares uma vez que distorções na imagem podem ser sintomas de distúrbios alimentares. O presente estudo teve o objetivo de verificar se distúrbios alimentares e alterações na imagem corporal tem relação com a prática esportiva por pessoas com deficiência física. Foram avaliados 22 atletas praticantes de basquete sobre rodas (32 ± 9 anos) e 22 deficientes físicos não atletas (35 ± 11 anos). A avaliação de atitudes alimentares foi realizada pelo Teste de Atitudes Alimentares (EAT 26 - Eating Attitude Test. Garner e Garfinkel, 1979) e avaliação da imagem corporal foi realizada pelo Questionário de Imagem Corporal (BSQ – Body Shape Questionnaire. Cooper et al, 1987) e pelo Questionário sobre Deficiência Física e Estima Corporal (PDBEQ – George Taleporos et al, 2002). The Brazilian livestock stands out for having the world largest commercial herd of cattle and leads meat exportation and production of bovine embryos. The in vitro production (IVP) of embryos is considered an effective option to overcome problems such as infertility in cows with high economic value and also for genetic improvement of cattle. The in vitro oocyte maturation is an essential step to the success of IVP, but is still considered poor when compared to in vivo maturation. Recent studies have suggeested an important role of Fibroblast Growth Factor 10 (FGF10) on the in vitro maturation of oocytes, which favored the expression of genes related to oocyte maturation and cumulus cell expansion. Aware that maturity stage influences the final production of blastocysts, we aimed study to verify if the addition of FGF10 into the maturation medium is able to affect positively the IVP of bovine embryos. Hence, FGF10 was added to maturation in five different concentrations: 0.5 ng/mL (group 0.5), 2.5 ng/mL (group 2.5), 5 ng/mL (group 5), 10 ng/mL (group 10) and 50 ng/mL (group 50). Additionally, two other maturation groups were used, group BSA (Bovine Serum Albumin, 4 mg/mL) and group FCS (Fetal Calf Serum, 10%). The rates of cleavage, morula and blastocyst were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), differences of P<0.05 were considered significant. Cleavage rates did not differ between the seven groups. On the other hand, morula rate on FCS group was higher than groups BSA, 0.5, 10 and 50 (P<0.05), but did not differ among groups treated with intermediate doses of FGF10 (2.5 and 5). FCS group presented higher blastocyst rate compared to all other groups that were well below the FCS group (P<0.0001). Therefore, the use of FGF10 during oocyte maturation did not affect positively embryo development on the IVP of bovine embryos

Preeclampsia is a specific disorder of pregnancy, characterized by arterial hypertension and proteinuria detected after 20 weeks of gestation. This pathology is associated with hyperuricemia, higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, enhanced leukocyte activation and oxidative stress. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme present in all human tissues and, it is involved with the maturation of the immune system. Although its function is not fully understood, ADA is considered an indicator of cellular inflammation and, its increased serum concentration is observed in inflammatory diseases, such as tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis. This study aimed to assess serum ADA levels in preeclamptic patients (PE) compared with normotensive pregnant (NT) and non-pregnant women (NP), and to correlate these values with TNF-α and IL-1β production. Ninety pregnant women were included: 60 were pre-eclamptic and 30 were normotensive matched for gestational age. As control group 20 healthy non-pregnant women matched with pregnant for age were included. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMMC) obtained from the three groups studied were cultured with or without lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 18h at 37oC, and TNF-α and IL-1β production was assessed in the supernatant of cultures by enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). ADA plasmatic concentration was determined by colorimetric method. The results show that ADA plasma levels were significantly higher in PE group compared with NT and NP groups. A positive correlation between ADA and uric acid levels was detected in preeclamptic women. There was no significant difference in relation to ADA levels when PE patients were classified in early and late-onset PE. The endogenous production of IL-1β and TNF-α by PBMC was significantly higher in PE group than in NT and NP women, showing the activation state of these cells in PE. Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a complication of human pregnancy characterized by hypertension and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. Its incidence varies from 5% to 7% of pregnancies and is a major cause of morbidity and maternal and fetal mortality. This is a multisystemic disease, with focus on vascular dysfunction and is closely related to the exacerbated activation of the immune system. In addition to increased activation of monocytes and granulocytes, there is an elevated production of proinflammatory cytokines in pregnant women with PE. The nuclear transcription factor-kB (NF-kB) is present in the cells of the immune system and is responsible for transcription of genes related to inflammation. Whereas the PE is associated with intense inflammatory response, the use of substances modulating the activity of NF-kB factor could be useful in alleviating the inflammation present in these patients. Silibinin is the main component of silymarin, a polyphenolic extract obtained from fruits and seeds of Sylibum marianum with potent hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic activities. The silibinin mechanism of action includes the ability to inhibit NF-kB activation and, consequently, its migration to the nucleus. The objective of this study was to assess whether silibinin modulates the activity of NF-kB and the production of inflammatory cytokines in mononuclear cells of patients with PE. We evaluated 34 pregnant women with PE, 20 normotensive pregnant women (GN) and 15 non-pregnant women (NG). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were obtained from those groups of women and cultured in the presence or absence of silibinin (5 uM or 50 uM) and stimulated or not with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 18 h to obtain supernatant for determination of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 (IL-1β) by enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). The work presents a literature review on the topic of internal communication as an innovation factor in Micro and Small Business. The objective is to discuss how internal communication can be an essential factor in the pursuit of innovation and the consequent competitive advantage in the Micro and Small Enterprises scenario. We present the concepts of integrated communication, organizational communication, internal communication, whether crafted by a philosophy of Public Relations, can lead these companies to gain competitive advantage and overcome the limitations and challenges imposed on them

A number of 170 individuals of the species Pimelodus maculatus, a Neotropical fish known as mandi was collected in three distinct locations of the Piracicaba river (Piracicaba, Santa Maria da Serra and Americana – SP0 from April 2009 to February 2010. A common species of catfish whose individuals exist in many neotropical basins was observed to get more information about a possible influence of the water conditions in distant parts of a same river to its condition and also to verify whether the stomach contents of fish collected in these distinct places may distinguish as a possible consequence of food availability. The species were studied by collecting biological data such as standard length (SL) in cm, their total weights (TW ) in grams and sexes to see the composition of fish present in the samples. Length-weight relationships are important means to investigate facts related to the condition of the species in these systems. The analysis was made by using covariance to observe if individuals of similar lengths collected in distinct places may be compared to this purpose. Usual methods to investigate relationships of stomach food contents were applied. By analyzing the condition factor, one may conclude that the mandis collected in the region of Santa Maria da Serra presented similar characteristics to those obtained in Piracicaba, but they differ in this aspect for individuals collected in Americana. This fact is not conclusive about the reasons of this situation, but it may be a first step to other studies in order to get more information about. The degree of stomach repletion may be a first approach to this possible explanation, as individuals of Piracicaba presented usually full stomachs and differed in this way to individuals collected in the two other places

The new market, focused on sustainability and other environmental concerns, refers to innovations that seek alternative forms of production. In pulp and paper bleaching alternative reagents are studied, for example, hydrogen peroxide, in partial substitution of chlorine dioxide in order to reduce the formation of organochlorines. In this context, this study examined the burden of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on alkaline extraction stage (stage Ep) required for the bleaching of pulp with eucalyptus kraft pulp, pre-oxygen delignified to obtain equivalent brightness at 90 ± 0.5% ISO, as well as its effect on quality of pulp produced. The pulp was bleached by the sequence D(Ep)DP, with the application of factor kappa of 0.14 and varying the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in Ep stage three, five, seven and nine kilograms of reagent per ton of pulp absolutely drought. The final P stage was optimized with the use of six, nine and twelve pounds of hydrogen peroxide per ton of absolutely dry pulp to achieve the required brightness. The quality of the pulp produced was analyzed based on the kappa number, the brightness and the viscosity. The methods were performed according to standards set by the standard TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry). The best result was obtained using the following D0Ep(7)D1P(6), which showed a viscosity of 19.9 cP, 89.6% ISO brightness, consumption of 94.9 kg / t of reagents and reagent costs of US$ 28.15, because it showed better pulp quality for a lower cost compared to the others. It was found that the greater the amount of hydrogen peroxide in alkaline extraction, the lower the kappa number and increased the amount of residual hydrogen peroxide. The higher the charge of hydrogen peroxide in Ep stage, the lower the need for hydrogen peroxide in the final P stage, reducing the cost of bleaching

O fator de início de tradução 5A (eukaryotic translation iniciation factor 5A, eIF5A) é altamente conservado entre arqueas a eucariotos, sendo que as proteínas eIF5A de Saccharomyces cerevisiae e de mamíferos são 63% idênticas. eIF5A sofre uma modificação pós-traducional única na célula, a hipusinação de um resíduo de lisina. Essa proteína já foi relacionada ao início da tradução, transporte nucleocitoplasmático, decaimento de mRNA e proliferação celular, mas a função crítica de eIF5A ainda não foi esclarecida. A depleção deste fator em S. cerevisiae leva a uma diminuição (30%) da taxa de síntese protéica, sugerindo que eIF5A seja um fator envolvido na tradução de um grupo específico de mensageiros. Dados do laboratório demonstram interação física entre eIF5A e proteínas ribossomais bem como com o fator de elongação 2 da tradução (eEF2). A interação com eEF2, sugere que eIF5A atua na etapa de elongação da tradução, ao invés do início da tradução, como proposto inicialmente. Com o objetivo de avaliar a relação de eIF5A com a etapa de elongação, foram realizadas análises de interações genéticas entre o gene codificador de eIF5A (TIF51A) e diversos genes codificadores de proteínas envolvidas na tradução. Através de análises de interações genéticas, foi observado que o mutante estável de eIF5A, tif51AK56A, apresenta um defeito de crescimento quando o mutante de eEF2, eft2H699K, está expresso em alto número de cópias, enquanto que o mutante tif51AQ22H/L93F não apresenta defeitos nesta condição. Foi observado também que o mutante tif51AQ22H/L93F apresenta um defeito de crescimento mais severo quando ocorre superexpressão de EFT2, gene codificador de eEF2. Foi observado ainda que não há complementação alélica entre os mutantes estáveis de eIF5A e que a reversibilidade do fenótipo de sensibilidade a temperatura...
