La cascarilla cerámica y su uso innovador

The ceramic shell is a material mainly used for making foundry molds. This research demonstrates that ceramic shell can be used for making sculptures with exceptional definition in its finish. The research has identified a number of advantages of the material to meet the challenges of an artist during the making of a sculpture. The research has been developed in six stages: In the first stage data were collected from the chaff as the process material. This was the starting point for research. In the second stage, we have set the appropriate composition of the slurry, both in percentage and type of binder, and firing curve. To this end, we evaluated the application characteristics, thickness, drying, mechanical strength, the reduction coefficient and porosity. In the third stage it was observed that the husk is suitable for all types of materials acting as support. It was also found that the slurry can be used with various sculptural processes: modeling, molding using silicone or plaster mold, shuttering, with internal metal frame, and so on. In addition, we have established methods to repair and modify the husk by hand and power tools. In the fourth stage we have found ways to modify the surface of the husk with other minerals that affect the structure: introduction of filing of copper, bronze and iron in the slurry ceramics, different staining procedure in hot or cold, by enamel slip, and so on. In the fifth stage sculptures were made using the methods established in the previous stages, to verify this hypothesis. The sixth stage, which is annexed, contains a new method to process the ceramic shell as a mold in casting that emerged from the proven methods in the investigation.

Ultrastructural description of Ceratomyxa microlepis sp. nov. (Phylum Myxozoa): a parasite infecting the gall bladder of Hemiodus microlepis, a freshwater teleost from the Amazon River

A new ceratomyxid parasite was examined for taxonomic identification, upon being found infecting the gall bladder of Hemiodus microlepis (Teleostei: Hemiodontidae), a freshwater teleost collected from the Amazon River, Brazil. Light and transmission electron microscopy revealed elongated crescent-shaped spores constituted by two asymmetrical shell valves united along a straight sutural line, each possessing a lateral projection. The spores body measured 5.2 ± 0.4 µm (n = 25) in length and 35.5 ± 0.9 µm (n = 25) in total thickness. The lateral projections were asymmetric, one measuring 18.1 ± 0.5 µm (n = 25) in thickness and the other measuring 17.5 ± 0.5 µm (n = 25) in thickness. Two equal-sized subspherical polar capsules measuring 2.2 ± 0.3 µm in diameter were located at the same level, each possessing a polar filament with 5-6 coils. The sporoplasm was binucleate. Considering the morphometric data analyzed from the microscopic observations, as well as the host species and its geographical location, this paper describes a new myxosporean species, herein named Ceratomyxa microlepis sp. nov.; therefore representing the first description of a freshwater ceratomyxid from the South American region.

Context switching accounting mechanism

How many times a given process p preempts, either voluntarily or involuntarily, is an important threat to computer's processes throughput. Whenever running cpu-bound processes on a multi-core system without an actual system grid engine as commonly found on Grid Clusters, their performance and stability are directly related to their accurate implementation and the system reliability which is, to an extend, an important caveat most of the times so difficult to detect. Context Switching is time-consuming. Thus, if we could develop a tool capable of detecting it and gather data from every single performed Context Switch, we would beable to study this data and present some results that should pin-point at whatever their main cause could be.

El projecte és l’inici de la creació d’un nou prototip per a poder competir la temporada 2008 a la cursa de vehicles de baix consum Shell Eco-Marathon. El principal objectiu és aconseguir un xassís que redueixi, en la mesura del possible, el pes del prototip a la vegada que asseguri una millor rigidesa i millori l’ergonomia de tot el conjunt. Es dissenyarà tota la part estructural de la carrosseria, que serà sotmesa a càlcul mitjançant la tècnica dels elements finits i posteriorment es realitzarà una guia de producció per tal de guiar els membres de l’equip que en realitzin la producció

Aplicación de gestión de ficheros de configuración de Asterisk : Conexión de Asterisk con Google App corportativo

El objetivo de este trabajo es desarrollar una aplicación web que sirva de gestión de los aparatos conectados a la centralita Asterisk y generar los ficheros de configuración, tanto para los terminales como para el correcto funcionamiento de la centralita. Además, se instalará un servidor que conecte centralita y Google Apps para que los usuarios puedan usar el videochat de Gmail como softphone, permitiéndoles enviar y recibir llamadas a través de la centralita de la universidad en cualquier parte del mundo.

Búsqueda, selección e implantación de un sistema online de software libre para revisión por pares en congresos científicos

Este proyecto tiene como objetivo implementar un sistema libre bajo GNU/Linux para la recepción y evaluación de trabajos presentados a un congreso argentino sobre sistemas embebidos. Además, se piensa en un futuro en organizar un evento de software libre con revisión de pares, para lo cual sería coherente utilizar un sistema con licencia de software libre.

Aplicació de VirtualBox i FOG a xarxes escolars

L'objectiu principal d'aquest projecte és presentar una solució global i pràctica al problema que genera el manteniment d'una gran quantitat d'ordinadors en xarxa en una escola, minimitzant al màxim els recursos i temps que siguin necessaris invertir. Realitzarem per tant un projecte utilitzant eines GNU/Linux. Començarem descrivint quina estructura TIC disposen a la majoria de centres escolars i la seva problemàtica associada.

Migració a programari lliure en un entorn empresarial privatiu

El meu treball final de carrera es basa en la substitució dels sistemes privatius Windows, tant en el camp dels servidors com dels clients, per sistemes GNU/Linux. Aquest estudi es durà a terme en una empresa mitjana d'uns 100 treballadors. Es pretén demostrar com els sistemes GNU/Linux poden facilitar les tasques informàtiques d'una empresa i a la vegada reduir significativament els costos.

UOCbuntu es una distribución basada en Ubuntu y creada con el objetivo de satisfacer las necesidades de los estudiantes de las ingenierías en Informática de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. De esta forma, se pretenden aglutinar en un único producto todas las herramientas necesarias y otras que pueden ser de utilidad para los alumnos, con la ventaja de poder ejecutarse en modo live-usb persistente.

Reptiles produce pheomelanin : evidence in the Eastern Hermann's tortoise (Eurotestudo boettgeri)

Reptiles, supposedly, do not produce pheomelanin pigments. Because this claim is based on rather weak evidence, we measured the shell pheomelanin content in the Hermann's Tortoise (Eurotestudo boettgeri). In contrast to expectation, we detected a substantial amount of this pigment. Given the recent interest in the adaptive function of melanin-based color traits, our study opens new avenues of research in reptiles.
