Informe estadístico de los recursos hidrobiológicos de la pesca artesanal por especies, artes, meses y caletas durante el segundo semestre de 1999

Presentan los datos de desembarque de pesca artesanal, recopilados en 21 puntos, entre puertos y caletas a nivel nacional, durante el segundo semestre de 1999. Con ello, el proyecto Determinación del Potencial Pesquero Artesanal en el Litoral Peruano, mediante la ejecución del convenio VECEP-IMARPE, cumple con la sexta entrega de las estadísticas de desembarque de la pesquería artesanal peruana.

Neuromuscular fatigue induced by whole-body vibration exercise

The aim of this study was to examine the magnitude and the origin of neuromuscular fatigue induced by half-squat static whole-body vibration (WBV) exercise, and to compare it to a non-WBV condition. Nine healthy volunteers completed two fatiguing protocols (WBV and non-WBV, randomly presented) consisting of five 1-min bouts of static half-squat exercise with a load corresponding to 50 % of their individual body mass. Neuromuscular fatigue of knee and ankle muscles was investigated before and immediately after each fatiguing protocol. The main outcomes were maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) torque, voluntary activation, and doublet peak torque. Knee extensor MVC torque decreased significantly (P < 0.01) and to the same extent after WBV (-23 %) and non-WBV (-25 %), while knee flexor, plantar flexor, and dorsiflexor MVC torque was not affected by the treatments. Voluntary activation of knee extensor and plantar flexor muscles was unaffected by the two fatiguing protocols. Doublet peak torque decreased significantly and to a similar extent following WBV and non-WBV exercise, for both knee extensors (-25 %; P < 0.01) and plantar flexors (-7 %; P < 0.05). WBV exercise with additional load did not accentuate fatigue and did not change its causative factors compared to non-WBV half-squat resistive exercise in recreationally active subjects.

A Regulação da Comunicação Social em Cabo Verde na Era Digital

Com a perspetiva da implementação de uma Autoridade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social em Cabo Verde que terá poderes de emitir normas, assegurar a sua aplicação, fiscalizar e reprimir eventuais infrações, esta dissertação propõe fazer uma abordagem das representações dos atores envolvidos, da importância e da afirmação da primeira entidade administrativa com autoridade para assegurar o processo de hétero regulação dos meios de comunicação social, no quadro da expansão digital. Os avanços tecnológicos nas últimas décadas mudaram a estruturação dos meios de comunicação social, um pouco por todo mundo, incluindo Cabo Verde. Neste país, o processo de adesão por parte dos media tem sido lento na busca de uma melhor alternativa para lidar com as plataformas digitais. Com o advento da Internet, a radiodifusão por satélite e a Sociedade da Informação, os meios tradicionais como a imprensa escrita e a radiodifusão – ainda sujeitos a um estreito controlo de conteúdos - despoletaram dúvidas e incertezas quanto à forma mais apropriada de regular a comunicação social, já que não podem ser tão facilmente controlados. Este estudo pretende também identificar a melhor estratégia de regulação dos media em Cabo Verde no contexto da sua migração para o digital, na medida em que se existir uma estrutura reguladora forte, que acompanhe os princípios fundamentais da regulação, será possível responder eficazmente às solicitações da atual mudança, garantindo o difícil equilíbrio entre eles.

Mémoire de la source et hallucinations

De nombreux travaux récemment publiés indiquent que les patients schizophrènes souffrant de symptômes positifs, présentent des déficits en mémoire de la source. L'auteur décrit les différentes difficultés rencontrées. Dans ce contexte, une équipe suisse a élaboré différents exercices de remédiation cognitive, appuyée sur le programme RECOS. Une première évaluation fait ressortir des résultats encourageants.

Fractures non traumatiques en fin de grossesse: s'agit-il toujours d'une ostéoporose? A propos de deux cas [Non-traumatic fractures at the end of a pregnancy: are there always of osteoporotic origin].

Pregnancy-associated osteoporosis usually appears during the first pregnancy and does not affect the followings. We report two cases where non-traumatic fractures have been diagnosed shortly after delivery of second pregnancies. Wide investigations could not find a cause of secondary osteoporosis. In the first case we came to the diagnosis of pregnancy-associated osteoporosis and an intravenous treatment of ibandronate has been prescribed. In the second case the bone mineral density (BMD) being almost normal and the localisation of the fracture being atypical, we concluded to a fracture of non-osteoporotic origin, probably due to mechanical stress during pregnancy. No therapy against osteoporosis has been prescribed.

Change of individual BMI in Switzerland and the USA: a multilevel model for growth

Objective The aim is to analyze and compare individual BMI growth patterns of adults from Switzerland and the U.S. Methods The analyses are based on data from two population representative longitudinal household surveys, one from Switzerland, the other from the U.S. Each data set contains up to four data points for each adult individual. We use multilevel models for growth. Results It can be shown that growth patterns are different in different cohorts in the two countries: there are only small growth differences in the youngest and oldest, but large differences in the middle ages. The individual BMI increase of the middle age Swiss amounts to only half of that in the comparable U.S. individuals. Conclusion Given the much higher BMI level especially in the youngest cohort, this points to severe obesity problems in the U.S. middle aged population in the near future. A positive correlation between individual BMI level and growth may aggravate this fact.

Características biológicas de la merluza peruana en verano 2004. Crucero BIC Olaya 0401- 02

El Crucero demersal BIC Olaya 0401-02 se realizó del 14 de enero al 7 de febrero del 2004, desde el extremo norte del dominio marítimo peruano (3°30’S) hasta 7°30’S. Las observaciones más importantes fueron: (1) La población de merluza tuvo la LT con rango de 15 a 61 cm, con estructura bimodal (20 y 25 cm); (2) la mayoría correspondió a ejemplares jóvenes de 1 y 2 años de edad, con menor presencia de 3 años; (3) La proporción sexual fue de 1,0:1,39 a favor de las hembras; (4) El mayor porcentaje de individuos mostró un proceso de maduración avanzado que indicaba proximidad al periodo secundario de desove de verano; (5) El ambiente marino se encontró en condiciones de normalidad, con tenores de oxígeno de 1 a 2 mL/L; hecho que favoreció la presencia de merluza en su área habitual de distribución.

Differences in Frontal Activation in Adult Patients with Schizophrenia and in Psychotic Adolescents with Schizophrenic Symptoms in Two Fmri Tasks

Background: Language processing abnormalities and inhibition difficulties are hallmark features of schizophrenia. The objective of this study is to asses the blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) response at two different stages of the illness and compare the frontal activity between adolescents and adults with schizophrenia. Methods: 10 adults with schizophrenia (mean age 31,5 years) and 6 psychotic adolescents with schizophrenic symptoms (mean age 16,2 years) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging while performing two frontal tasks. Regional activation is compared in the bilateral frontal areas during a covert verbal fluency task (letter version) and a Stroop task (inhibition task). Results: Preliminary results show poorer task performance and less frontal cortex activation during both tasks in the adult group of patients with schizophrenia. In the adolescent patients group, fMRI analysis show significant and larger activity in the left frontal operculum (Broca's area) in the verbal fluency task and greater activity in the medium cingulate during the inhibition phase of the Stroop task. Conclusions: These preliminary findings suggest a decrease of frontal activity in the course of the illness. We assume that schizophrenia contributes to frontal brain activity reduction.

When nightclub security agents assault clients more insight through a qualitative approach.

Between 2007 and 2009, aggressions by security agents of nightclubs on clients increased from 6% to 10% among community violence situations encountered at the Violence Medical Unit (VMU) at the Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland. Most victims were young men who had been drinking alcohol before the assault. About one quarter (25.7%) presented with one or several fractures, all of them in the head area. (For more details, refer to the previous article "When nightclub security agents assault clients" published in 2012(1).) Following this first study, we performed a second qualitative study in order to bring more information about the context and highlight victims' behaviors and experiences. Four themes emerged: how the assault began; the assault itself; third-party involvement; and the psychological state of victims when they consulted the VMU. The findings of this second study complemented the statistical results of the first study by showing under what circumstances security agents of nightclubs respond with physical violence to situations they consider a threat to security. Furthermore, the study described consequences for the victims that could be quite serious. Our findings support the need for nightclubs to improve selection and training of security staff.
