Objectives: This investigation was performed to examine genetic variation at the beta-globin locus in a sample of 30 healthy individuals from native populations in South America. The patterns of haplotypic variation were compared with those of previous studies including samples for various worldwide populations in an attempt to make inferences about the occupation of the Americas from a deeper temporal perspective than is typically available with haploid markers. Methods: A 2.67-kb segment containing the beta-globin gene and its flanking regions was examined for genetic variation in a sample of 60 chromosomes from native populations in South America. The fragment was PCR-amplified and directly sequenced. To determine linkage relationships in compound heterozygotes, we used the amplification refractory mutation system. In addition, we assessed genetic variability and differentiation among populations, and we performed tests of selective neutrality. These analyses were performed for Brazilian Amerindian group and other worldwide populations previously studied. Results: Eleven polymorphic sites were found in the studied fragment, which distinguished eight different haplotypes, three recombinants haplotypes (present as single copies) and five previously described haplotypes, including some of those most highly differentiated. Genetic variation found in the pooled sample is substantial. Conclusions: Although only five known haplotypes are observed in Amazonia, some of these are highly divergent, resulting in patterns of molecular polymorphism equal to or higher than those from other world regions.

The Codex Biblioteca Casanatense 1409 which has for a long time been neg- lected in Parzival scholarship, transmits German translations of three continuations of Chre ́tien de Troyes‘ Roman de Perceval ou Le Conte du Graal together with the last two books (XV/XVI) of Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival. This article supports the for- merly casually made assumption that the Casanatense manuscript is in fact a direct copy of Codex Donaueschingen 97, the so called Rappoltsteiner Parzifal. As is to be shown, marks in the Donaueschingen codex, as well as significant copying errors in the Casanatense text and its treatment of initials suggest a direct relationship of the two witnesses. The notion of ,writing scene‘ (Schreibszene) with its implications of linguistic semantics, instrumentality, gesture and self reflection, proposed in modern literary scholarship, can help to understand peculiarities of the copying process in the Casanatensis, such as the numerous conceptual abbreviations and the adaptations in the handling of headings. In the final part of the article, the hypothesis is corroborated, that the copy of the Casa- natensis might have been produced in the surroundings of Lamprecht von Brunn (ca. 1320–1399), bishop of Strasburg and Bamberg, and counsellor of the emperor Charles IV.

In his lessons of the Summer semester of 1921 called “St. Augustin and the Neo-Platonism"; M. Heidegger interprets the Bishop of Hipona from what he calls “the factitive experience of life". This experience would be indissolubly associated to became that turns the human existence historically placed in an ephemeral and transitory unit. Centering in the Book X of Confessiones, Heidegger makes a critic to the Augustinian notion of “memory", narrowly tied to his famous conception on time developed in the Book XIth of the same write. The philosopher from Freiburg affirms that, though Augustin has overcome the merely psychological conceptions about the memory, still he remains confined in the perspective of language of the traditional Metaphysics. This work tries to trace de Neo-Platonic roots of Augustinian thinking, ignored in the analysis of Heidegger, principally regarding Plotinus legacy and of another Platonic Christianized as Mario Victorinus, and to research this way in what measure that interpretation results faithful to the principal Augustinian intuitions.

The apostle St. John impacted on Irenaeus through Policarpus from Smyrna. It is possible to track down distinctive aspects of the fourth Evangelist’s though by researching the work of the Bishop of Lyon, mainly in reference to his emphasis on the incarnation and on hissoteriology, which emphasises the individual relationship between the believer and God. We attempt to trace similarities between the Lugdunensis’s deep realism and that of the one which is considered by the tradition as the last eyewitness of the incarnated Verb. We will start from an analysis of the historical bond which links Irenaeus to John, and follow some of the main lines of his writings.
