In this paper, the relative photopolymerization efficiency for polymerization of a difunctional acrylate initiated by various N-substituted maleimides in the presence of amine and benzophenone are compared on the basis of a photo-differential scanning calorimetry (photo-DSC) study. The trends in the polymerization rates were obtained from the photopolymerization profiles and expressed in terms of a photoinitiation index, I-p. An N-substituent index, I-s, which indicates whether each N-substituent plays either a positive (when I-s > 1) or a negative (when I-s < 1) role in the initiation process relative to MI (unsubstituted maleimide), was determined. Moderating effect of allocentrism on the pay referent comparison-pay level satisfaction relationship

Pay referent comparisons (comparisons of one's salary to that of others) such as other-inside (salary of other people in the organisation), other-outside (the market rate), and cost-of- living, have been shown to influence pay level satisfaction. Bordia and Blau (1998) identified family as another referent that had a significant effect on pay level satisfaction in a sample of public and private sector employees in India. The finding was interpreted in view of the importance of family in collectivistic cultures. In the study reported here, the moderating influence of an individual differences variable, allocentrism-idiocentrism (the individual level conceptualisation of collectivism-individualism) on pay referent comparison-pay level satisfaction relationship was investigated. A sample of 146 employees from three public sector organisations in India participated in the study. In line with the predictions, results showed that after controlling for age, tenure, and pay level, pay referent comparisons explained more variance in pay level satisfaction for allocentrics than for idiocentrics. Family and pay level were stronger explanatory variables of pay level satisfaction for allocentrics and idiocentrics, respectively, while cost of living was a significant explanatory variable for both sub-groups.

Trichodesmium sp. isolated from the Great Barrier Reef lagoon was cultured in artificial seawater media containing a range of salinities. Trichodesmium sp. actively grew over a wide range of salinities (22 to 43 psu) and hence can be classed as euryhaline. Maximum growth occurred with salinities in the range 33 to 37 psu. Chl a content and alkaline phosphatase activity were found to increase with salinity over the range 22 to 43 psu, but the N-2 fixation rate was reduced at salinities below and above the range for maximum growth. Growth in media exhibiting maximum growth was characterised by well-dispersed cultures of filaments, while significant aggregations of filaments formed in other media. It is proposed that the tendency for Trichodesmium filaments to aggregate in media with salinities outside the range for maximum growth is an opportunistic response to a deficiency of cellular nitrogen, which results from the reduced N-2 fixation rates, and the aggregation occurs in order to enhance the uptake of combined N released within the aggregates and/or the N-2 fixation within the aggregates.
