Capacity-achieving techniques in nonlinear channels

Many of the current optical transmission techniques were developed for linear communication channels and are constrained by the fibre nonlinearity. This paper discusses the potential for radically different approaches to signal transmission and processing based on using inherently nonlinear techniques.

Nonlinear signal transformations:path to capacity above the linear AWGN Shannon limit

We present a methodology for simultaneous optimization of modulation format and regenerative transformations in nonlinear communication channels. We derived analytically the maximum regenerative Shannon capacity, towards which any regenerative channel tends at high SNR and large number of regenerators.

Design of nonlinear regenerative transmission systems with high capacity

We present the design of nonlinear regenerative communication channels that have capacity above the classical Shannon capacity of the linear additive white Gaussian noise channel. The upper bound for regeneration efficiency is found and the asymptotic behavior of the capacity in the saturation regime is derived. © 2013 IEEE.

High resolution demodulation platform for large capacity hybrid WDM/FDM microstructures sensing system assisted by tunable FP filter

In this paper we proposed a demodulation scheme based on tunable FP filter for the WDM/FDM sensing system of the microstructure mentioned in the previous work. Simulation is done to prove the feasibility of demodulating the microstructure with the tunable FP filter. The experiments result showed high consistence with the simulation. And with the help of the high speed FPGA module and a high resolution AD/DA card, the system has achieved a very high resolution, up to 2.5 pm, and wavelength ranges 1520nm to 1590 nm.

Capacity of dispersion-non-compensated nonlinear fibre channels

We present the analytical description of a specific nonlinear fibre channel with non-compensated dispersion. Information theory analysis shows that capacity of such nonlinear fibre channel does not decay with growing signal-to-noise ratio. © 2012 IEEE.

A lower bound on the per soliton capacity of the nonlinear optical fibre channel

A closed-form expression for a lower bound on the per soliton capacity of the nonlinear optical fibre channel in the presence of (optical) amplifier spontaneous emission (ASE) noise is derived. This bound is based on a non-Gaussian conditional probability density function for the soliton amplitude jitter induced by the ASE noise and is proven to grow logarithmically as the signal-to-noise ratio increases.

Capacity of nonlinear fibre channels and eigenvalue division multiplexing for optical transmissions

The nonlinear Fourier transform, also known as eigenvalue communications, is a coding, transmission and signal processing technique that makes positive use of the nonlinear Kerr effect in fibre channels. I will discuss recent progress in this field. © 2015 OSA.

Reach extension of high-capacity LR-PONs in chain configuration of distributed amplifier structure

We show 100-Gb/s single-channel transmission in LR-PONs with at least 512 way split and up to 160 km total distance is feasible by means of "chained" cable with amplifier solutions, and appropriate FIR filter designs. © 2015 OSA.

Organizational culture, organizational climate, and collaborative capacity for planning

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship of organizational culture and organizational climate on participant perceptions of collaborative capacity for planning, within the context of the Florida School Readiness Coalitions (FSRCs). Three hypotheses were proposed for study: First, that organizational culture would be correlated to organizational climate; second, that organizational culture would be correlated to collaborative capacity for planning; and the third that organizational climate would be correlated to collaborative capacity for planning. ^ A cross-sectional survey research design was used to obtain data from participants in 25 Florida School Readiness Coalitions. Pearson product-moment correlations were used to examine the association between the dependent variable, collaborative capacity for planning, and the independent variables, organizational culture and climate. Bivariate analyses revealed a significant level of association for five culture indicators to collaborative capacity for planning: motivation, interpersonal, service, supportive and individualistic indicators, and four climate indicators: cooperation, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and role clarity. Findings suggest (a) a constructive culture and positive climate were present within the FSRCs during the period of study and (b) participants perceived that the collaborative capacity for planning existed. Hierarchical multiple regression, controlling for effects of participant demographics, were used to examine the degree to which organizational culture and climate predict collaborative capacity. The culture indicators, supportive and individualistic, and the climate indicator job satisfaction accounted for 46% of the variance in collaborative capacity for planning. No other indicators of the independent variables demonstrated significance. The findings suggests that (a) culture and climate should be studied together, (b) culture and climate are two constructs that may provide knowledge about the way community groups work together, and (c) the collaborative capacity of groups planning services such as the FSRCs may benefit through consideration of how culture and climate affect service planners' relationships, communication, and ability to achieve a mission or goal. Culture and climate may offer social workers new information about internal factors affecting the collaborative process. Further investigation of these constructs with other types of groups is warranted. ^

Scaling multimode fibre IM/DD transmission capacity through spatial-spectral multiplexing

Data centre connections can greatly benefit from parallel transmission channels on one multimode fibre (MMF). Shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) achieves parallel transmission through spectral multiplexing. Furthermore, MMFs offer a spatial dimension that should be exploited to increase parallel transmission, albeit in a cost-effective way. In this paper, it is shown that SWDM and spatial multiplexing can be combined in intensity modulation and direct detection MMF transmission systems that use selective offset excitation and mode-selective spatial filtering.

Impact of optical phase conjugation on the Shannon capacity limit

Compensation of the detrimental impacts of nonlinearity on long haul wavelength division multiplexed system performance is discussed, and the difference between transmitter, receiver and in-line compensation analyzed. The impact of system imperfections is also outlined.

Gestion des ressources humaines et description des outils à la section Collège Frontière de l'Université de Sherbrooke

Dans le cadre de son programme de formation professionnelle de maîtrise en gestion et développement des coopératives, l'Institut de recherche et d'enseignement pour les coopératives (IRECUS) requiert de ses étudiantes et étudiants qu'ils effectuent un stage pratique d'intervention en milieu coopératif. À la suite de la réalisation de ce stage, l'étudiante ou l'étudiant termine ses activités de formation professionnelle avec la rédaction d'un essai qui traite soit d'une question technique identifiée lors du stage, soit d'une question reliée au processus même de l'intervention (IRECUS, Guide de réalisation de l'essai, mai 1999, p.5). Dans le présent essai, nous étudierons le processus de gestion des ressources humaines qui permet à la section Collège Frontière de l'Université de Sherbrooke de gérer sa croissance et de s'adapter à son environnement. Je voudrais situer mon essai en amont de mon stage pratique et tenter de comprendre comment une bonne planification et une saine gestion de ses ressources humaines peuvent contribuer au maintien d'un bon nombre de bénévoles et à plus d'efficacité de l'organisme. En permettant de répondre aux attentes du personnel, la gestion des ressources humaines procure un atout concurrentiel. Pour la majorité des gestionnaires, il devient de plus en plus évident que l'efficacité organisationnelle, base de succès de toute entreprise passe désormais par une gestion efficace, efficiente et équitable des ressources humaines. Il faut prendre un moment pour relever judicieusement les problèmes de gestion sur lesquels les gestionnaires de ressources humaines peuvent intervenir pour produire un impact positif et une valeur ajoutée à la gestion stratégique de l'entreprise…
