 In this research, a novel method for generating training data of human postures with attached objects is proposed. The results has shown a significant increase in body-part classification accuracy for subjects with props from 60% to 94% using the generated image set

Existence and uniqueness of a fixed-point for local contractions

This paper proves the existence and uniqueness of a fixed-point for local contractions without assuming the family of contraction coefficients to be uniformly bounded away from 1. More importantly it shows how this fixed-point result can apply to study existence and uniqueness of solutions to some recursive equations that arise in economic dynamics.

Quantum entanglement and fixed point Hopf bifurcation

We present the qualitative differences in the phase transitions of the mono-mode Dicke model in its integrable and chaotic versions. These qualitative differences are shown to be connected to the degree of entanglement of the ground state correlations as measured by the linear entropy. We show that a first order phase transition occurs in the integrable case whereas a second order in the chaotic one. This difference is also reflected in the classical limit: for the integrable case the stable fixed point in phase space undergoes a Hopf type whereas the second one a pitchfork type bifurcation. The calculation of the atomic Wigner functions of the ground state follows the same trends. Moreover, strong correlations are evidenced by its negative parts. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Vacuum energy and the fixed point of QED

The vacuum energy of QED, as a function of the coupling constant α, is shown to have an absolute minimum at the critical coupling αc=π/3. The effect of chiral symmetry breaking diminishes as the coupling is increased. We argue that these aspects of the vacuum energy shall remain unaltered beyond the ladder approximation.

On some Banach space constants arising in nonlinear fixed point and eigenvalue theory

[EN] As is well known, in any infinite-dimensional Banach space one may find fixed point free self-maps of the unit ball, retractions of the unit ball onto its boundary, contractions of the unit sphere, and nonzero maps without positive eigenvalues and normalized eigenvectors. In this paper, we give upper and lower estimates, or even explicit formulas, for the minimal Lipschitz constant and measure of noncompactness of such maps.

Fixed point theorems in partially ordered spaces and aplications

Generalmente, estos resultados combinan dos teoremas del punto fijo fundamentales: el Teorema de la contracción de Banach y el Teorema de Knaster-Tarski.

Clinical and microbiological findings at sites treated with orthodontic fixed appliances in adolescents

INTRODUCTION: Fixed orthodontic appliances can alter the subgingival microbiota. Our aim was to compare the subgingival microbiota and clinical parameters in adolescent subjects at sites of teeth treated with orthodontic bands with margins at (OBM) or below the gingival margin (OBSM), or with brackets (OBR). METHODS: Microbial samples were collected from 33 subjects (ages, 12-18 years) in treatment more than 6 months. The microbiota was assessed by the DNA-DNA checkerboard hybridization method. RESULTS: Bacterial samples were taken from 83 OBR,103 OBSM, and 54 OBM sites. Probing pocket depths differed by orthodontic type (P <0.001) with mean values of 2.9 mm (SD, 0.6) at OBSM sites, 2.5 mm (SD, 0.6) at OBM sites, and 2.3 mm (SD, 0.5) at OBR sites. Only Actinomyces israelii (P <0.001) and Actinomyces naeslundii (P <0.001) had higher levels at OBR sites, whereas Neisseria mucosa had higher levels at sites treated with OBSM or OBM (P <0.001). Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans was found in 25% of sites independent of the appliance. CONCLUSIONS: Different types of orthodontic appliances cause minor differences in the subgingival microbiota (A israelii and A naeslundii) and higher levels at sites treated with orthodontic brackets. More sites with bleeding on probing and deeper pockets were found around orthodontic bands.

Late diagnosis of fucosidosis in a child with progressive fixed dystonia, bilateral pallidal lesions and red spots on the skin

Fucosidosis is a rare lysosomal storage disease. A 14-year-old girl is presented, with recurrent infections, progressive dystonic movement disorder and mental retardation with onset in early childhood. The clinical picture was also marked by mild morphologic features, but absent dysostosis multiplex and organomegaly. MRI images at 6.5 years of age were reminiscent of pallidal iron deposition ("eye-of-the-tiger" sign) seen in neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) disorders. Progressively spreading angiokeratoma corporis diffusum led to the correct diagnosis. This case extends the scope of clinical and neuroradiological manifestations of fucosidosis.
