Este estudo comparou a resistência à compressão de uma resina composta e de um compômero, fotoativados com luz halógena convencional de quarto-tungstênio (QTH) (XL 300, 3M/SPE) e LED azul (SmartLite PS; Dentsply/De Trey). Foram confeccionados 40 espécimes em forma de disco usando uma matriz bipartida de politetrafluoretileno (4,0 mm de diâmetro x 8,0 mm de altura) em que o material foi inserido incrementalmente. O tempo de polimerização de cada incremento foi de 40 s para a luz halógena convencional e de 10 s para o LED. Os espécimes foram aleatoriamente alocados em 4 grupos (n=10), de acordo com a fonte de luz e com o material restaurador. Depois de armazenadas em água destilada a 37°C ± 2°C por 24 h, a resistência à compressão dos espécimes foi testada em uma máquina universal de ensaios com célula de carga de 500 kgf a uma velocidade de carregamento de 0,5 mm/min. Os dados (em MPa) foram analisados estatisticamente por ANOVA e teste de Student-Newman-Keuls (p<0,05). Para a resina composta, a fotopolimerização com luz halógena não produziu diferença estatisticamente significante (p>0,05) em sua resistência à compressão quando comparada à fotopolimerização com LED. Contudo, a fotopolimerização do compômero com a luz halógena resultou em uma resistência à compressão significativamente maior que a feita o LED (p>0,05). A resina composta apresentou resistência à compressão significativamente maior que a do compômero, independente da fonte de luz. Concluiu-se que a resistência à compressão dos materiais fotopolimerizados com luz halógena e LED foi influenciada pela densidade de energia empregada e pela composição química dos materiais restauradores estéticos.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar a influência da pressão intrapulpar e da profundidade dentinária sobre o desempenho adesivo de dois agentes de união à dentina, Single Bond (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, EUA) e Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray, Tokyo, Japão), aplicados in vitro e in vivo. Quarenta e oito prémolares superiores hígidos foram selecionados e os pares pertencentes aos mesmos pacientes foram aleatoriamente distribuídos em 4 grupos experimentais de acordo com o sistema adesivo e a pressão intrapulpar, presente ou ausente. Dos dentes pertencentes ao mesmo par, um foi tratado in vivo e o outro in vitro. A ausência ou presença de pressão intra-pulpar foi determinada in vivo pelo uso de anestésicos locais com ou sem vasoconstritor, respectivamente. In vitro, os dentes foram mantidos sob pressão hidrostática de 15 cm de água por 24 horas. Cavidades de classe I foram preparadas e os sistemas adesivos aplicados de acordo com a recomendação dos fabricantes, seguidos da restauração incremental em resina composta. Para os dentes tratados in vitro, os mesmos procedimentos restauradores foram realizados após 6 meses de armazenagem em solução contendo timol 0,1%. Espécimes com área de secção transversal de 1 mm2 foram obtidos e submetidos ao ensaio mecânico de microtração. In vivo, ambos os sistemas adesivos apresentaram desempenho adesivo comparável, enquanto in vitro, o sistema Single Bond foi superior ao sistema Clearfil SE Bond. Esse último não foi influenciado por nenhuma das variáveis estabelecidas no estudo, ou seja, aplicação in vitro ou in vitro, presença de pressão intrapulpar e profundidade em dentina. O sistema Single Bond aplicado sob pressão intrapulpar positiva sofreu variação significante de resistência de união em função da profundidade da dentina, ou seja, em dentina profunda seu desempenho adesivo... Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o risco de desenvolvimento de desordens músculo-esqueléticas nos membros superiores de graduandos de Odontologia considerando as variáveis sexo, tipo de procedimento clínico executado, região da boca tratada e prática do trabalho a quatro mãos. Foram avaliados alunos, de ambos os sexos, matriculados no oitavo semestre do curso de graduação da Faculdade de Odontologia de Araraquara - UNESP. Foram efetuadas tomadas fotográficas durante a realização de 283 procedimentos clínicos, utilizando-se máquina fotogrática digital. Para análise das fotografias, utilizou-se o programa Image Tool. As posturas de trabalho adotadas por cada estudante na sua atuação como “operador” foram observadas pelo método RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment), o qual inclui o uso de um diagrama de análise de postura do indivíduo e três tabelas de escores que permitem a avaliação da exposição aos fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de desordens músculo-esqueléticas. As fotografias foram analisadas por um professor da área de ergonomia calibrado (_=0,91). Para cada procedimento foi atribuído um escore de risco final. Os procedimentos executados foram classificados em duas grandes categorias: procedimentos preparatórios e procedimentos restauradores/reabilitadores. Os dados de risco de desordens músculoesqueléticas nos membros superiores foram apurados, e sua prevalência foi estimada por ponto e por intervalo de confiança de 95%. O estudo da associação do risco de desordens músculo-esqueléticas às variáveis de interesse foi realizado por meio do Teste de Qui-quadrado (_ 2). O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. The biological principles of osseointegration caused the rehabilitation treatment with osseointegrated implant become a safe, well alternative accepted by the dental community for the high success rate, allowing the preparation of functional and aesthetic prostheses in edentulous and partial patients. We passed the initial phase of functional vision for an aesthetic approach, too, depending on the demands of the patient and the quest for excellence by professionals. Over these last years, implant treatment has undergone many changes in surgical and prosthetic protocols. The less invasive surgical techniques and the development of restorative materials, especially ceramics allow the prosthetic rehabilitation of high functional quality and aesthetics. The installation of implants in sockets immediately after extraction of teeth involved by fracture, periodontal disease, endodontic lesions, is part of the arsenal of techniques for rehabilitating a number of advantages that we get to the outcome of multidisciplinary treatment. For this, we must consider several criteria in its planning as a fundamental unit, adjacent teeth, multiple losses, system, form and number of implants, type of retention of the prosthesis components, the patient expectation of the outcome perspective, gingival biotype, standard of ridge resorption, the smile line, etc. occlusal analysis. With the three-dimensional placement of the implant can immediately join the biological processes of repair of the socket, implant osseointegration, speeding treatment time. Much has been made by companies in the surface treatment of endosseous implants to be osseointegration shortened and restorative procedures started earlier, bringing benefits to the patient and professional. To compare the abrasion wear resistance and superficial roughness of different glass ionomer cements used as restorative materials, focusing on a new nanoparticulate material. Material and Method: Three glass ionomer cements were evaluated: Ketac Molar, Ketac N100 and Vitremer (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA), as well as the Filtek Z350 (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA). For each material were fabricated circular specimens (n=12), respecting the handling mode specified by the manufacturer, which were polished with sandpaper disks of decreasing grit. The wear was determined by the amount of mass (M) lost after brushing (10,000 cycles) and the roughness (Ra) using a surface roughness tester. Results: Except for the composite, significant loss of mass was observed for all glass ionomer cements and the ΔM was comparable for all of them. Significant increase in roughness was observed only for Vitremer and Ketac N100. At the end of the brushing cycle, just Vitremer presented surface roughness greater than the composite resin. Conclusion: All glass ionomer cements showed significant weight loss after 10,000 cycles of brushing. However, only Vitremer showed an increase of roughness greater than the Z350 resin, while the nanoparticulate cement Ketac N100 showed a smooth surface comparable to the composite.

Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative developmental enamel defect that affects one to four permanent first molars, with or without involvement of permanent incisors. Enamel defects may produce many symptoms that have physical, social and psychological effects and influence day-to-day living or quality of life. The available treatment modalities for teeth with MIH are extensive, ranging from prevention, restoration, to extraction. Factors such as age, patient expectations, severity of the lesion and materials should be considered in the treatment of the patient with MIH. Restoration with composite resin is an alternative choice for posterior and anterior MIH defective teeth and its use has been show acceptable results. This article describes two clinical cases involving pediatric patients with MIH whose procedure of cavity preparation was based on the use of CVD ultrasound diamond tips and restored using composite resin obtaining favorable esthetics results after a 1 year follow-up.

Several aspects beyond the restorative phase itself such as orthodontic movement and periodontal treatment must be considered in cases of closure of diastemas. In such cases, a multidisciplinary approach is essential. As patients during orthodontic treatment may show high risk of developing dental caries and periodontal disease, inflammation of the gingival tissue is a common finding. For this reason, a preliminary basic periodontal treatment is critical to the success of restorative procedure. In addition, postoperative care and instruction in phonetics, oral hygiene and periodic control must be considered by professionals and patients. Thus, this paper demonstrates through a case report, pre and postoperative issues that should be considered during the closure of diastemas using a layering technique with resin composites

Despite the strong valorization of the esthetics and its relationship with restorative materials, the biological principles of any clinical procedure are extremely important to maintain the vitality of the dentin-pulp complex. Dentin and pulp tissue are susceptible to different kinds of irritants such as toxins from microorganisms, traumatic procedures of cavity preparation, as well as toxic components released by restorative materials applied in non recommended clinical situations. Initially, the pulp responds to irritation by starting an inflammatory reaction which involves outward movement of dentinal fluid and intratubular deposition of immunoglobulins, upregulation of odontoblast activities, presence of immune cells and their cytokines as well as local expression of neuropeptides and chemokines. After these initial events, the inflammation process can be resolved associated or not to sclerotic dentin formation and reactionary dentin deposition. If high intensity offensive stimuli are applied to the dentin-pulp complex, death of odontoblasts takes place and consequently pulp ageing or even partial necrosis of this tissue may occurs. Thereby, clinicians need to be aware about the physiological and pathological features of the dentin-pulp complex as well as the possible biological consequences of different clinical procedures. In this way, the dentists should be able to carry out minimally aggressive operative techniques and to select the more appropriate restorative materials for each specific clinical situation in order to obtain excellent clinical results associated to the maintenance of pulp vitality.

Lasers are widely used tools in many therapeutic modalities in medical lasers and can be divided into low and high intensity. For the treatment of periodontal disease, lowintensity lasers are related to reduce the number of bacteria and to induce inflammatory and analgesic properties. The high intensity lasers can be used in surgical procedures, improving hemostasis, promoting more accurate cuts, removal of dental calculus as well as thermomechanical and photochemical interactions with tissue. The high-intensity laser Erbium impregnated with chromium: YSGG laser has shown satisfactory results when applied in endodontic, restorative denstistry, surgical procedures and non-surgical periodontal treatment. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the studies that investigated the effects of Er, Cr: YSGG laser on the morphology and biocompatibility of titanium and root surfaces irradiated with these lasers, even beyond the effect on the treatment of periodontitis and periimplantitis.

The knowledge of the etiology of any disease or condition is paramount to a safe and effective treatment. This literature review aims to show some options to treat dentine hypersensitivity (HSDC). The loss of cervical enamel and cementum exposure of tubules leads to a painful condition and patient discomfort, called HSDC. This loss of tooth structure occurs due to formation of cervical lesions in cases of gingival recession, abrasion, erosion, or abfraction by the association of two or more factors. Some treatments are not effective, but there are effective therapies, such as: application of ferric oxalate, potassium oxalate, potassium nitrate, fluoride varnish, solutions of calcium phosphate, adhesives and Bonding procedures. Therefore, the identification and removal of etiological factors is essential to successful treatment of HSDC normally associated to tubules obliterate and consequent reduction of fluid motion within the dentin.
