Rightful Resistance in the Colombian conflict. A theoretical reflection based on a Peace Community

This article considers the opportunities of civilians to peacefully resist violent conflicts or civil wars. The argument developed here is based on a field-based research on the peace community San José de Apartadó in Colombia. The analytical and theoretical framework, which delimits the use of the term ‘resistance’ in this article, builds on the conceptual considerations of Hollander and Einwohner (2004) and on the theoretical concept of ‘rightful resistance’ developed by O’Brien (1996). Beginning with a conflict-analytical classification of the case study, we will describe the long-term socio-historical processes and the organizational experiences of the civilian population, which favoured the emergence of this resistance initiative. The analytical approach to the dimensions and aims of the resistance of this peace community leads to the differentiation of O`Brian’s concept of ‘rightful resistance’.

"Pars fructuaria". Studie zu Nebengebäuden mit Speicherfunktion auf römerzeitlichen Villae im Hambacher Forst. Mit Vergleichen aus den germanischen und britannischen Provinzen

Die Arbeit untersucht die Nebengebäude von 11 bislang nicht umfassend bearbeiteten Villa- Fundplätzen des Tagebaugebietes Hambacher forst und vergleicht diese mit den Nebengebäuden anderer römischer Villae sowohl in den rheinischen Tagebaugebieten als auch in der übrigen Provinz Niedergermanien sowie Obergermanien und Britannien. Hierbei konnten neue Aussagen zur Funktion, zur Nutzung, zur Konstruktion sowie zur baulichen Entwicklung gemacht werden. Darüber hinaus wurden auf Grundlage der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse bestehende Denkmodelle ins besondere zur Errechnung der Fundus-Größen römerzeitlicher Villae kritisch hinterfragt und geschärft.

Nascent entrepreneurship and the developing individual : early entrepreneurial competence in adolescence and venture creation success during the career

What predicts a person's venture creation success over the course of the career, such as making progress in the venture creation process and multiple successful venture creations? Applying a life span approach of human development, this study examined the effect of early entrepreneurial competence in adolescence, which was gathered retrospectively by means of the Life History Calendar method. Human and social capitals during the founding process were investigated as mediators between adolescent competence and performance. Findings were derived from regression analyses on the basis of prospective and retrospective data from two independent samples (N = 88 nascent founders; N = 148 founders). We found that early entrepreneurial competence in adolescence had a positive effect on making progress in the venture creation process. Nascent founders' current human and social capital also had a direct effect, but it did not mediate the effect of early competences. Finally, the data revealed that early entrepreneurial competence in adolescence positively predicted habitual entrepreneurship (multiple successful venture creations) exhibited over a longer period of the individual career (specifically, 18 years). In line with the results from prospective longitudinal studies on early precursors of entrepreneurship, our findings underscore the long neglected importance of adolescent development in the explanation of entrepreneurial performance during the subsequent working life.
