This work describes the syntheses of O-protected aminoglycosides as an important block building for the preparation of potential bioactive pseudodisaccharide. The new O-protected methyl 3-amino-3-deoxy-alpha-D-glycopyranoside 4 and methyl 2-amino-2-deoxy-alpha-D-glycopyranoside 5 were prepared, respectively, in five and four steps. All compounds were obtained in good yield and characterized by spectral data (¹H and 13C NMR, MS, IR) and elemental analysis.

Oxocarbonos, pseudo-oxocarbonos e esquaraínas

Oxocarbons ions are cyclic compounds presenting unusual electronic and vibrational properties. These molecules anions possess a high symmetry and degree of electronic delocalization, characteristics that have been discussed in several structural and spectroscopic investigations. Compounds in which one or more of the carbonyl oxygen atoms are replaced by other atoms or groups are called pseudo-oxocarbons. Compounds formed by substitution of the carbonyl groups by nitrogen groups former a new class named squaraines. Specificity the dicyanomethylene groups are interesting because of the possibility of further extension of the electronic delocalization and a new coordination site. These molecules also present interesting coordination properties which make these systems potentially useful in crystal engineering research.

Avaliação da potencialidade de processos pseudo-fenton para remediação de solos contaminados por diesel

The use of the Fenton's reagent process has been investigated for the remediation of a Brazilian soil contaminated by diesel. Laboratory experiments were conducted in batch experiments. Slurries, consisting of 10 g of diesel-contaminated soil and 30 mL of Fenton's Reagent (0.41 mol L-1 H(2)0(2) and 0.18 mol L-1 FeSO4). The experiments were monitored during 24, 48 and 72 h. The efficiency of the Fenton treatment was dependent on the time of contact between soil and Fenton's reagents and matrix characteristics, probably iron content. Data suggested that no iron addition is needed for the application of Fenton-like treatment for the remediation of diesel-contaminated iron rich soils after 72 h reaction.

CHARACTERIZING THE MECHANISM OF QUETIAPINE DISTRIBUTION IN LIPID-CORE NANOCAPSULES PSEUDO-PHASES USING A VALIDATED LC/UV METHOD

Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia. However, despite great interest for its chronic therapeutic use, quetiapine has some important side effects such as weight gain induction. The development of a quetiapine nanocarrier can potentially target the drug into central nervous system, resulting in a reduction of systemic side effects and improved patient treatment. In the present work, a simple liquid chromatography/ultraviolet detection (LC/UV) analytical method was developed and validated for quantification of total quetiapine content in lipid core nanocapsules as well as for determination of incorporation efficiency. An algorithm proposed by Oliveira et al. (2012) was applied to characterize the distribution of quetiapine in the pseudo-phases of the nanocarrier, leading to a better understanding of the quetiapine nanoparticles produced. The analytical methodology developed was specific, linear in the range of 0.5 to 100 µg mL−1 (r2 > 0,99), and accurate and precise (R.S.D < ±5%). The absolute recovery of quetiapine from the nanoparticles was approximately 98% with an incorporation efficiency of approximately 96%. The results indicated that quetiapine was present in a type III distribution according to the algorithm, and was mainly located in the core of the nanoparticle because of its logD in the formulation pH (6.86 ± 0.4).

Pseudo-aneurisma gigante de artéria axilar esquerda

A case of a gunshot of the left axilary artery with a giant pseudoaneurism formation with sixteen years of evolution is presented. The 61- years-old male patient present since them a small assintomatic tumoration in infraclavicular localization. In the last eight months the tumor became symptomatic and volumous, reaching 20 cm in diameter, with signals of infection and imminent rupture. The patient was operated on with ligature of the axilary artery and evacuation of the pseudoaneurysm. The surgical handling and endovascular therapeutic options available in the present time are discussed. A short review about the disease as well as a bibliographic update are present. The authors also call attention for the necessity of a correct management of the vascular injures in the event of the first management.

Pseudo-aneurisma arterial pós-transplante renal

Vascular complications after kidney transplantation have been described and pseudoaneurysms represent a well-recognized vascular complication. Although the incidence of pseudoaneurysm is low, it may potentially cause graft loss or may even be fatal for the patients if it is not diagnosed and treated quickly. The authors report a case of renal artery pseudoaneurysm diagnosed two months posttransplantation with cadaveric graft, the treatment and literature data.

A frequency-domain pseudo-force method for dynamic structural analysis nonlinear systems and nonproportional damping

A frequency-domain method for nonlinear analysis of structural systems with viscous, hysteretic, nonproportional and frequency-dependent damping is presented. The nonlinear effects and nonproportional damping are considered through pseudo-force terms. The modal coordinates uncoupled equations are iteratively solved. The treatment of initial conditions in the frequency domain which is necessary for the treatment of the uncoupled equations is initially adressed.

Estrutura sexual e ecologia reprodutiva de Amaioua guianensis Aubl. (Rubiaceae), uma espécie dióica de formações florestais de cerrado

A biologia reprodutiva de Amaioua guianensis foi estudada numa área de Mata no Parque do Sabiá, Uberlândia, MG, Brasil, entre setembro de 2003 e abril de 2005. Foram investigados a fenologia, o sistema reprodutivo, a morfologia floral, o conjunto de polinizadores e dispersores, e a estrutura sexual dos indivíduos reprodutivos. Amaioua guianensis é uma espécie arbórea dióica comum em formações florestais brasileiras. Suas flores são hexâmeras, tubulares, esbranquiçadas e odoríferas, polinizadas por vetores relativamente especializados como grandes abelhas e esfingídeos. Flores pistiladas produziram néctar mais precocemente e em maior volume que as estaminadas. As estaminadas foram produzidas em maior número por inflorescência e eram significativamente maiores que as pistiladas. As flores eram dispostas em inflorescências terminais, umbelas compostas nas masculinas e simples nas femininas. Ambos os morfos apresentaram estruturas sexuais não funcionais do morfo oposto, contudo, o estilete nas flores masculinas parece funcionar como pseudo-estame, um mecanismo de apresentação secundária de pólen comum na tribo Gardenieae, porém ainda não descrito para a espécie. A razão sexual foi de 1,49 a favor de indivíduos masculinos, e a população apresentou distribuição agrupada dos morfos sexuais. Ambos os casos provavelmente ocorrem como conseqüências de perturbação e reprodução vegetativa. A taxa de flores polinizadas naturalmente foi de 98,6% e de produção de frutos 75,7%. A produção de frutos por apomixia foi muito baixa (3,4%). Os frutos foram dispersos efetivamente por aves. A morfologia floral associada à fauna de polinizadores relativamente especializados tornou o serviço de polinização e produção de frutos muito eficaz, mesmo nas condições de perturbação da área estudada.

pp-Blast: a "pseudo-parallel" Blast

We have developed a software called pp-Blast that uses the publicly available Blast package and PVM (parallel virtual machine) to partition a multi-sequence query across a set of nodes with replicated or shared databases. Benchmark tests show that pp-Blast running in a cluster of 14 PCs outperformed conventional Blast running in large servers. In addition, using pp-Blast and the cluster we were able to map all human cDNAs onto the draft of the human genome in less than 6 days. We propose here that the cost/benefit ratio of pp-Blast makes it appropriate for large-scale sequence analysis. Efeito de uma sessão de hemodiálise sobre o estresse oxidativo sistêmico de pacientes renais crônicos terminais

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a repercussão de uma sessão de hemodiálise (HD) sobre o estresse oxidativo sistêmico de pacientes renais crônicos. MÉTODOS E RESULTADOS: Foram avaliados 17 pacientes (10 mulheres) com média de idade de 39,9 ± 13,5 anos em tratamento hemodialítico na Unidade de Nefrologia do HCPA, e o grupo controle formado por 18 indivíduos saudáveis (4 mulheres), com média de idade de 34,8 ± 10,1 anos. O sangue dos doentes renais foi coletado antes e após a sessão de HD. As médias foram analisadas pelo teste t de Student (p < 0,05). Nos eritrócitos, avaliou-se a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes superóxido dismutase (SOD) e catalase (CAT). No plasma, avaliou-se o sistema antioxidante não enzimático por meio da mensuração da capacidade antioxidante total (TRAP). Não houve diferença significativa entre os valores de SOD e CAT antes e após HD. Comparando com o grupo controle, observou-se redução significativa na atividade dessas enzimas. O TRAP apresentou redução significativa após sessão de HD. O dano oxidativo a lipídios de membrana foi avaliado por quimiluminescência (QL), enquanto o dano às proteínas, pelo método das carbonilas. Não houve diferença significativa entre os valores de QL e Carbonilas após HD. Porém, quando comparados com o grupo controle, observou-se diferença significativa indicando maior dano aos lipídios de membrana e às proteínas nos doentes renais. CONCLUSÕES: Pacientes renais crônicos tratados com HD apresentam redução na atividade das enzimas antioxidantes SOD e CAT, bem como dano oxidativo aumentado quando comparado com indivíduos saudáveis e uma sessão de HD não modifica esses níveis.

No contexto da Metafísica Medieval, a «beleza» foi pensada como um conceito ambíguo: ora atribuído a Deus, ora atribuído ao Mundo. O propósito deste artigo é clarificar o sentido desta ambiguidade no âmbito da filosofia do Pseudo-Dionísio Areopagita. Se, portanto, o conceito de «beleza» é, em primeiro lugar, despojado do seu carácter sensível e mundano, para ser apropriado à natureza divina, ele é, num segundo momento, aposto à própria criação, de forma a designar a manifestação visível da beleza transcendente e o chamamento vital para a perscrutação teológica.
