Recent research advances in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the processes of hypertrophy and atrophy. This may contribute to development of effective therapeutic strategies to attenuate or block the loss of muscle tissue associated with aging and pathological conditions. In this context, myogenic factors that control the activity of satellite cells have been studied to better understand the events involved in the recovery of muscle mass. Among them, we highlight the Myogenic Regulatory Factors (MRFs), which have been described as potential mediators of muscle growth. The objectives of this study evaluated the morphofunctional adaptations and gene expression of MRFs (MyoD and myogenin) in skeletal muscle (soleus) subjected to an atrophic stimulus followed by physical training. It was used 64 male Wistar rats (80 days, 250 to 300 g), divided into 8 groups (n = 8): C: control animals a week, I: Animals immobilized a week, C3: control animals 3 days; R3: Animals immobilized and recovered for 3 days, T3: Animals immobilized and submitted to exercise for 3 days; C7: Animals controls 7 days; R7: Animals immobilized and subsequently recovered by 7 days, T7: Animals immobilized and subsequently subjected to exercise for 7 days. Initially, the animals in groups I, R3, R7, T3 and T7, were submitted to 7 days of immobilization of the hind limb. Muscle atrophy was confirmed after a direct statistical comparison of the values of cross-sectional area (CSA) of muscle fibers studied in animals in groups I and C, sacrificed immediately after the immobilization period. Then, the groups T3 and T7 were submitted a rehabilitation program with muscle aerobic exercise (swimming) for 3 and 7 days respectively. The groups C, C3 and C7 were kept without stimulus atrophic and were not subjected to exercise. At the end of the experiment, the animals were sacrified and the soleus muscle removed. Medo e ansiedade são emoções que se originam nas reações de defesa de caráter adaptativo que animais exibem perante ameaças que podem comprometer sua integridade física ou sua própria sobrevivência. Tais situações resultam em um repertório de comportamentos defensivos espécie-específicos, alterações autonômicas e inibição da dor. A dor é descrita por uma variedade de sensações e experiências emocionais associadas e constituída de dois principais componentes: o perceptivo-discriminativo, que permite ao indivíduo reconhecer o estímulo como doloroso e localizá-lo numa região do corpo, e o aversivo-cognitivo-motivacional, que compreende uma série de respostas defensivas, objetivando a autopreservação imediata. O modelo de condicionamento por lugar, para medir efeitos não discriminativos da estimulação nociceptiva, vem sendo utilizado em abordagens recentes para o estudo do componente emocional relacionado à dor. Existem paradigmas baseados na aprendizagem associativa entre o estado afetivo e de dicas ambientais que precedem a aplicação de um estímulo, o qual pode ter propriedade aversiva ou prazerosa, dependendo da resposta que se quer estudar. O presente estudo investigou a ação do fármaco triazolobenzodiazepínico, Alprazolam, sobre o fenômeno da ACL em camundongos, que foram separados em grupos experimentais. No primeiro dia, parte dos animais sofreu estimulação nociceptiva, através da injeção de formalina a 2,5% na pata traseira direita, e foi confinado nos ambientes diferenciados de uma Plataforma Elevada fechada (um lado com grade no assoalho e outro sem grade). No segundo dia, parte dos animais 7 (de acordo com o grupo de estudo) recebeu tratamento farmacológico (Alprazolam ou salina) 30 minutos antes de ser reexposto à plataforma, registrando-se o tempo gasto nos dois ambientes da plataforma elevada fechada... In the LTP (Long-Term Potentiation) model of learning and memory formation, elaborated in the context of molecular neurobiology, the opening of NMDA (N-Metyl-D-Aspartate) channels to entry of calcium ions into the post-synaptic neuron depends on two excitatory events: the repeated activation of the post-synaptic neuron by only one pre-synaptic neuron (Alternative 1), or its concomitant activation by two or more pre-synaptic neurons (Alternative 2). With the purpose of testing these alternatives, in the context of Cognitive Psychology, we presented to 73 university students a sequence of slides, with the duration of 6 seconds each, containing sentences (one for each slide) considered as being relevant or irrelevant for the subjects. Relevant sentences (R1) were presented only one time, while irrelevant ones were divided in three groups: the first one with sentences presented only one time (I1), the second with sentences presented three times (I3) and the third with sentences presented five times (I5). We conjectured that relevant sentences presented only one time would mobilize two or more brain excitatory pathways (corresponding to Alternative 2 above), while repeated irrelevant sentences would progressively activate the same sensory pathway. After the presentation of the sentences, the subjects answered a written questionnaire with questions about each presented sentence. The results indicate a prevalence of correct answers to R1 over I1, I3 and I5, suggesting that the relevance factor has greater weight than repetition in the induction of declarative memories

Attention is a phenomenon that allows the selection of relevant stimuli in order to prioritize them and improve their processing. This modulation could occur in any step of the process: in an early stage or in a late stage, more precisely, in a perceptive or motor stage. However, even with a rich literature about attention in time, there are still some divergences about how this modulation occurs. A hypothesis about it says that temporal attention would only be able to prepare the motor system to respond. The perceptual modulation would only occur when the temporal expectation is in combination with another expectation of a property with neuronal receptive field. In this situation, the receptive field's pre-activation is the explanation of how temporal attention would be capable to modulate perceptual process. The crucial objective was to test this hypothesis. In other words, it was to verify if the feature expectation of a stimulus (Gabor orientation) and its temporal expectancy interferes in perception quality. Two experiments were made: the first one tested the voluntary temporal expectation, and the second one tested the automatic temporal expectation. Our data shows that both Feature-based Attention and Temporal Attention improve the process of perception. Temporal expectation effects just occur in situations of competitive environment. Hypothesis verification was not conclusive, because of methodological problems

The use of computers in childhood education makes it possible for them to acquire knowledge in a fun way through games. This paper describes the experience of implementing the course “Computers for Children”, which is part of a University Extension Program at the School of Dentistry at UNESP - Araraquara. This course is offered to children aged 5-7 years old and it aims, not only, to offer children, via computer, a direct contact with new teaching technologies, but also, to help them develop both their motor and logical thinking abilities through educational games. The children that participated in this course are from the Children’s Center “Casinha de Abelha” at the UNESP -Araraquara and also from the Municipal Recreation and Educational Centers also in Araraquara, SP, Brazil. The software resources used in this course to teach computer skills are the educational games “Coelho Sabido Maternal”, “A Estrela Cintilante” and “Festa dos Dentinhos”. The children’s learning and the level of difficulty in using the computer as a tool were evaluated. It was possible to conclude that the course has been contributing to the digital inclusion of children aged 5-7 years old, in addition to training their visual and audio perception, their motor coordination and memorization, hence developing skills that are essential to the children’s literacy process.

This study aimed at quantifies the pain in dogs under dissociative anesthesia, across thermal and pressoric stimulus and quantify the reasonable period between two different opioids analgesics. In this study, 30 dogs were used and, divided into three groups of 10 animals each, in which the animals of GI received methotrimeprazine and midazolam put on the same syringe with ketamine. The animals of GII received the same treatment of GI but associated with butorphanol and finally the animals of GIII received the same treatment of GI but associated with buprenorphine. The routine parametric evaluations has been proceeded, although using the thermo algimetry measured in degrees C with the average of 52 degrees C and the pressoric algimetry in Kg. In the thermo algimetry, there has been significant difference in GI at the moments M0, M1, M4 and M5; in GII it was found at M0, M1, M5 and M6 and in GIII it was observed the significant at M0 and M1. It has also been shown in pressoric algimetry significant difference in GI at the moments M0, M2 and M3. Among GII it has observed significant difference at all moments and it has found at M0, M9 in GIII. Thus, it has observed significant differences between all groups; for such the M2 of GII smaller than the others; and M4, M5 of GIII bigger than GI and GII. In the assessment of all periods it was observed significant latent period bigger in GI, however, with reasonable period and short recovery in GII and GIII. In the order hand, the postural tonus recovery it was longer in GIII, followed by GII and finally GI. The used method for the measurement of algic stimulus was efficient, noticing a reasonable analgesic period of 3 hours for butorphanol and 6 hours for buprenorphine.

The information is centralized on the oligopolistic control of large media conglomerates. Due to the oligopoly of the sources and agencies, can be seen by reviewing the programs for the transmission of information from different stations, there is a minimum difference maintained only for the sources of information of local character. The purpose of this article refers to present concepts and communication proccess for the transmission of information may serve as a stimulus for the generation of knowledge.
