Data set of 17.767 weight records of 4.210 Santa Inês lambs were used aiming to evaluate the importance of the inclusion of the maternal effect in the model to estimate components of (Co) variance and resulting genetic parameters for the growth curve through random regression models. The fixed and random regressions were fitted using Legendre Polynomials of order three, being fit four models that differed in relation to the inclusion of the additive genetic and permanent environmental maternal effects. Considerable increase was observed in Log L and decrease in the criteria AIC and BIC when the maternal effect was included (genetic or permanent environmental), evidencing its importance. The maternal genetic effect explained larger proportion of the phenotypic variance than the maternal permanent environmental along the growth curve. The direct additive genetic variance was inflated by maternal effect, when this last one was not considered in the analysis model, reflecting the same behavior in the heritabilities. The maternal permanent environmental effect contributed to maternal variance, as well as, it inflated maternal genetic variance, when it was not considered in the model. Similar behavior was verified with maternal heritability. The correlation estimated for the four models hardly differed in function of maternal effect. The maternal effect should be considered in the genetic studies of the growth curve of Santa Inês sheep.

O principal objetivo deste trabalho é investigar teóricamente as propriedades eletrônicas e óticas de compostos orgânicos em ambiente líquido. A compreensão das interações em sistemas líquidos é muito importante para a descrição de fenômenos em muitas partes da ciência, como Física, Química, Biologia e Materiais, bem como no desenvolvimento de materiais óticos. As flutuações térmicas fazem que inumaram das configurações para os líquidos possam ser gerados. Esta é a razão do comportamento estatístico observado em sistemas líquidos. Considerando estas dificuldades, o tratamento sequencial Monte Carlo / Mecânica Quântica (SMC/QM) é usado neste trabalho. Neste procedimento, a estrutura líquida é gerada primeiramente por simulações clássicas de MC e mais tarde, somente a parte mais importante do sistema é tratada com mecânica quântica. Usando o procedimento acima, os propriedades do quantum o pirazine dimethyl do thiene Methyl da laranja (MO) e do O 2,3-dimetil tieno[3,4-b] pirazina (DTP) foram investigados. O MO é um conhecido indicador de pH e pode ser encontrado sob circunstâncias básicas e acidas. Suas geometrias de mínima energia foram obtidas mediante a Teoria do Funcional da Densidade pelo funcional B3LYP, sendo o sistema descrito pelas bases de Pople com uma função de polarização (6-31G*). Para obter as propriedades médias dos observaveis, cálculos de química quântica foram executados dentro da aproximação semi-empírica de INDO/S-CI. Com respeito ao espectro de absorção, os dados experimentais existentes na literatura científica reportam a existência de uma larga banda localizada na região de baixas energias, mais precisamente entre 400 e 600 nm. Nossos resultados teóricos para a forma alcalina mostram uma transição intensa transição π → π* aproximadamente à 432.4 ± 0.03 nm e, sob condições ácidas, esta transição aparece aproximadamente à 507.4 ± 0.12, 496.4 ± 0.28 ou 545.3 ± 0.10 nm, dependendo da estrutura, mostrando bom acordo com resultados experimentais. O DTP é um sistema particular usado na produção de polímeros de baixo gap. Suas propriedades elétricas e óticas foram obtidas através de um novo procedimento conhecido por Configuração Eletrostática Média do Solvent (ASEC). O procedimento ASEC inclui moléculas do solvente como cargas pontuais e permite o obtenção das quantidades quânticas executando somente poucos cálculos de mecânica quântica. Para o DTP, usando a teoria das perturbações de segunda ordem Mφller-Plesset (MP2) e o conjunto de bases aug-cc-pVDZ, a convergência do momento de dipolo foi alcançada com apenas quatro cálculos de mecânica quântica à 1.16 D, apresentando um aumento de 42% quando comparado ao dipolo isolado. O polarizabilidade corresponde à outra característica elétrica que pôde ser medida. Considerando o mesmo nível empregado ao cálculo do dipolo, o valor médio 132.7 a30 foi observado. A região de mais baixas da energias do espectro de absorption foi investigada também atravé de procedimento de ASEC usando ambos as aproximações, semi-empírico e DFT. Esta região de absorção é motivo de conclusões contraditórias com relação à natureza das transições n → π* e π → π*. Nossos resultados mostram que realmente que essas excitações são realmente observadas simultanemente podendo sobrepôr-se. Como exemplo, nossos resultados para DFT, encontrados usando o funcional B3LYP nos mostra que estas transições aparecem aproximadamente à 360.6 e 351.1 nm.

No presente trabalho, investigamos o transporte eletrônico molecular em dois compostos orgânicos, o Ponceau SS (PSS) e o Oligo-(para)fenileno-vinileno (PPV) através de cálculos ab initio e função de Green de não equilíbrio (FGNE). Estes métodos demonstraram equivalência para a descrição destes dispositivos moleculares. Fizemos cálculos quânticos para o Hamiltoniano derivado de Hartree-Fock (HF) e obtivemos as propriedades de corrente-voltagem (I-V) para as duas estruturas moleculares. Com o método FGNE conseguimos modelar o transporte através de um sistema de multiníveis eletrônicos obtendo a corrente descrevendo as regiões de ressonância e a assimetria do sistema. Como resposta o PSS demonstrou assimetria para polarizações direta e reversa e a ressonância é alcançada mostrando que o dispositivo opere como um transistor molecular bi-direcional. Para o PPV investigamos também as propriedades geométricas através da conexão entre transporte eletrônico e o grau de quiralidade molecular que foi calculado usando o índice quiral que depende apenas das posições atômicas. Obtivemos que moléculas quirais e propriedades estruturais podem induzir uma assimetria no transporte eletrônico, resultando num processo de retificação. Também obtivemos que a resposta elétrica (I-V) e momento de dipolo elétrico são proporcionais ao grau de quiralidade molecular. Estes resultados sugerem que o transporte eletrônico neste sistema pode ser explorado na avaliação do seu grau de quiralidade.

The objective of this study was to estimate variance components and genetic parameters for accumulated 305-day milk yield (MY305) over multiple ages, from 24 to 120 months of age, applying random regression (RRM), repeatability (REP) and multi-trait (MT) models. A total of 4472 lactation records from 1882 buffaloes of the Murrah breed were utilized. The contemporary group (herd-year-calving season) and number of milkings (two levels) were considered as fixed effects in all models. For REP and RRM, additive genetic, permanent environmental and residual effects were included as random effects. MT considered the same random effects as did REP and RRM with the exception of permanent environmental effect. Residual variances were modeled by a step function with 1, 4, and 6 classes. The heritabilities estimated with RRM increased with age, ranging from 0.19 to 0.34, and were slightly higher than that obtained with the REP model. For the MT model, heritability estimates ranged from 0.20 (37 months of age) to 0.32 (94 months of age). The genetic correlation estimates for MY305 obtained by RRM (L23.res4) and MT models were very similar, and varied from 0.77 to 0.99 and from 0.77 to 0.99, respectively. The rank correlation between breeding values for MY305 at different ages predicted by REP, MT, and RRM were high. It seems that a linear and quadratic Legendre polynomial to model the additive genetic and animal permanent environmental effects, respectively, may be sufficient to explain more parsimoniously the changes in MY305 genetic variation with age.

We report new archeointensity data obtained from the analyses of baked clay elements (architectural and kiln brick fragments) sampled in Southeast Brazil and historically and/or archeologically dated between the end of the XVIth century and the beginning of the XXth century AD. The results were determined using the classical Thellier and Thellier protocol as modified by Coe, including partial thermoremanent magnetization (pTRM) and pTRM-tail checks, and the Triaxe protocol, which involves continuous high-temperature magnetization measurements. In both protocols, TRM anisotropy and cooling rate TRM dependence effects were taken into account for intensity determinations which were successfully performed for 150 specimens from 43 fragments, with a good agreement between intensity results obtained from the two procedures. Nine site-mean intensity values were derived from three to eight fragments and defined with standard deviations of less than 8%. The site-mean values vary from similar to 25 mu T to similar to 42 mu T and describe in Southeast Brazil a continuous decreasing trend by similar to 5 mu T per century between similar to 1600 AD and similar to 1900 AD. Their comparison with recent archeointensity results obtained from Northeast Brazil and reduced at a same latitude shows that: (1) the geocentric axial dipole approximation is not valid between these southeastern and northeastern regions of Brazil, whose latitudes differ by similar to 10 degrees, and (2) the available global geomagnetic field models (gufm1 models, their recalibrated versions and the CALSK3 models) are not sufficiently precise to reliably reproduce the non-dipole field effects which prevailed in Brazil for at least the 1600-1750 period. The large non-dipole contribution thus highlighted is most probably linked to the evolution of the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) during that period. Furthermore, although our dataset is limited, the Brazilian archeointensity data appear to support the view of a rather oscillatory behavior of the axial dipole moment during the past three centuries that would have been marked in particular by a moderate increase between the end of the XVIIIth century and the middle of the XIXth century followed by the well-known decrease from 1840 AD attested by direct measurements. Die FT-Rheologie wird zur Unterscheidung verschiedener Kamm-Topologien in Polystyrollösungen und –schmelzen angewendet. Die Polystyrole werden in Abhängigkeit der Deborahzahl De unter LAOS-Bedingungen vermessen. Die Meßergebnisse zeigen, daß der Schritt von wohldefinierten Systemen (lineare Ketten, Sterne) zu solchen mit statistischer Verteilung wie in Kämmen zu großen Veränderungen sowohl im linearen als auch im nichtlinearen Bereich der rheologischen Messungen führt. Sowohl die Masterkurven als auch die Intenstiäten I3/1 und Phasen Phi3 der Nichtlinearitäten der einzelnen Proben weisen jeweils deutliche Unterschiede untereinander auf. Diese sind durch die bisherigen Ergebnisse noch nicht vollständig mit topologischen Merkmalen in Verbindung zu bringen. Die Messungen wurden mit dem von McLeish eingeführten Pom-pom Modell und daraus weiterentwickelten double convected-Pom-pom Modell (DCPP) simuliert und lieferten gute Übereinstimmung sowie auch Vorhersagen über den experimentell nicht mehr zugänglichen Bereich. Zur Untersuchung des Einflusses von mechanischer Scherung auf die lokale, molekulare Dynamik wird das LAOS-Experiment in situ mit dielektrischer Spektroskopie kombiniert. Dazu wurde eine Apparatur entwickelt, die das hochsensitive ARES-Rheometer mit dem hochauflösenden dielektrischen ALPHA-Analyzer verbindet. Mit dieser Apparatur wurde das Typ-A Polymer 1,4-cis-Polyisopren, mit einem Dipolmoment entlang des Rückgrats, bei oszillatorischer Scherung unter gleichzeitiger Aufnahme eines dielektrischen Spektrums vermessen. Es konnte gezeigt werden, daß die oszillatorische Verscherung weder die charakteristische Relaxationszeit noch die Form des Normal Mode Peaks beeinflußt, wohl aber die dielektrische Stärke Delta epsilon. Diese entspricht der Fläche unter dem e“-Peak und kann mit einer Debye- und einer Cole/Davidson-Funktion angepasst werden. Die Abnahme der dielektrischen Stärke mit zunehmender Scheramplitude kann mit der Orientierungsverteilung der End-zu-End-Vektoren in der Probe erklärt werden.

Diese Arbeit beschreibt die Entwicklung, Konstruktion und Untersuchung eines Magnetometers zur exakten und präzisen Messung schwacher Magnetfelder. Diese Art von Magnetometer eignet sich zur Anwendung in physikalischen hochpräzisions Experimenten wie zum Beispiel der Suche nach dem elektrischen Dipolmomentrndes Neutrons. Die Messmethode beruht auf der gleichzeitigen Detektion der freien Spin Präzession Kern-Spin polarisierten 3He Gases durch mehrere optisch gepumpte Cäsium Magnetometer. Es wird gezeigt, dass Cäsium Magnetometer eine zuverlässige und vielseitige Methode zur Messung der 3He Larmor Frequenz und eine komfortable Alternative zur Benutzung von SQUIDs für diesen Zweck darstellen. Ein Prototyp dieses Magnetometers wurde gebaut und seine Funktion in der magnetisch abgeschirmten Messkabine der Physikalisch Technischen Bundesanstalt untersucht. Die Sensitivität des Magnetometers in Abhängigkeitrnvon der Messdauer wurde experimentell untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, dass für kurze Messperioden (< 500s) Cramér-Rao limitierte Messungen möglich sind während die Sensitivität bei längeren Messungen durch die Stabilität des angelegten Magnetfeldes limitiert ist. Messungen eines 1 muT Magnetfeldes mit einer relative Genauigkeit von besser als 5x10^(-8) in 100s werden präsentiert. Es wird gezeigt, dass die Messgenauigkeit des Magnetometers durch die Zahl der zur Detektion der 3He Spin Präzession eingesetzten Cäsium Magnetometer skaliert werden kann. Prinzipiell ist dadurch eine Anpassung der Messgenauigkeit an jegliche experimentellen Bedürfnisse möglich. Es wird eine gradiometrische Messmethode vorgestellt, die es erlaubt den Einfluss periodischerrnmagnetischer Störungen auf dieMessung zu unterdrücken. Der Zusammenhang zwischen der Sensitivität des kombinierten Magnetometers und den Betriebsparametern der Cäsium Magnetometer die zur Spin Detektion verwendet werden wird theoretisch untersucht und anwendungsspezifische Vor- und Nachteile verschiedener Betriebsartenwerden diskutiert. Diese Zusammenhänge werden in einer Formel zusammengefasst die es erlaubt, die erwartete Sensitivität des Magnetometers zu berechnen. Diese Vorhersagen befinden sich in perfekter Übereinstimmung mit den experimentellen Daten. Die intrinsische Sensitivität des Magnetometer Prototyps wird auf Basis dieser Formel theoretisch bestimmt. Ausserdem wird die erwartete Sensitivität für die Anwendung im Rahmen des Experiments der nächsten Generation zur Bestimmung des elektrischenrnDipolmoments des Neutrons am Paul Scherrer Institut abgeschätzt. Des weiteren wird eine bequeme experimentelle Methode zur Messung des Polarisationsgrades und des Rabi Flip-Winkels der 3He Kernspin Polarisation vorgestellt. Letztere Messung ist sehr wichtig für die Anwendung in hochpräzisions Experimenten.

To every partially ordered set (poset), one can associate a generating function, known as the P-partition generating function. We find necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for two posets to have the same P-partition generating function. We define the notion of a jump sequence for a labeled poset and show that having equal jumpsequences is a necessary condition for generating function equality. We also develop multiple ways of modifying posets that preserve generating function equality. Finally, we are able to give a complete classification of equalities among partially ordered setswith exactly two linear extensions.

We present the first-order corrected dynamics of fluid branes carrying higher-form charge by obtaining the general form of their equations of motion to pole-dipole order in the absence of external forces. Assuming linear response theory, we characterize the corresponding effective theory of stationary bent charged (an)isotropic fluid branes in terms of two sets of response coefficients, the Young modulus and the piezoelectric moduli. We subsequently find large classes of examples in gravity of this effective theory, by constructing stationary strained charged black brane solutions to first order in a derivative expansion. Using solution generating techniques and bent neutral black branes as a seed solution, we obtain a class of charged black brane geometries carrying smeared Maxwell charge in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity. In the specific case of ten-dimensional space-time we furthermore use T-duality to generate bent black branes with higher-form charge, including smeared D-branes of type II string theory. By subsequently measuring the bending moment and the electric dipole moment which these geometries acquire due to the strain, we uncover that their form is captured by classical electroelasticity theory. In particular, we find that the Young modulus and the piezoelectric moduli of our strained charged black brane solutions are parameterized by a total of 4 response coefficients, both for the isotropic as well as anisotropic cases.
