The garlic (Allium sativum L.) can be naturally infected by a complex of filamentous viruses belonging to the genera Potyvirus, Carlavirus and Allexivirus. Accumulation of these viruses occurs especially by vegetative propagation through cloves. As the cultivated garlic plant does not produce true seed worldwide, virus-free plants can only be obtained by tissue culture of stem apices and thermotherapy. Using these techniques, garlic seeds were produced at the School of Agricultural Sciences - UNESP, Botucatu, and evaluated by RT-PCR for the presence of potyvirus, carlavirus and allexivirus. In the second generation of microcloves propagated in a greenhouse, 6.6% infection was detected, only by allexivirus. In the fourth generation, however, there was 60% incidence by allexivirus, 35% by potyvirus and all negative by carlavirus. The high rate of infection by allexivirus may be related to the greater difficulty of removing the species of viruses belonging to this genus, as observed by other authors, and also based on the infection and transmission of the virus by the mite, Aceria tulipae, during the storage of bulbs from one year to the other. The garlic at the fourth generation corresponds to cloves weighed less than 1 gram and not selected for commercial multiplication. Selection for the size of cloves has a positive effect on the choice of cloves with lower rates of viral infection, as the technique of thermotherapy and tissue culture do not eliminate the virus completely. Results also emphasize the need of fumigation for the garlic seed stored from one year to the other in order to prevent the transmission of allexivirus during storage.

This work presents an intervention at the Guaratinguetá Railway Station and its surroundings, including this area in the urban context, at this moment isolated of the activities and citizen attentions, offering new activities on this commercial area. The selected area finds itself in a state of neglect and forgetfulness from the urban relations. Located between the periphery of the commercial center and the Paraiba do Sul River, the correlation is tension between the advancement of shops, the railway line, and the natural barrier of the Paraiba River. On the context of these limits, the railroad and the river stand as barriers for the center expansion and the flows that connect the old part of the town with the new part, which is growing and is called “post-city river”. These barriers have relegating properties around them to isolation, despite being located in the center. The area choice and this intervention seeks to break this isolation and the barrier flow, linking areas of opposite sides to form a leak through the barrier of the railway line. The pedestrian flow is prioritized in the project, this flow will be attracted by the program offered and by the new created areas, increasing the space utilization by users and breaking the isolation of urban activities. And entering the area in the context of life of city residents. The attraction of these new flows will be through the implementation of a Cultural Center, supplying a lack of city by spaces that offer this type of activity. Its implementation aims to attract and modify the activities of these spaces and the surrounding areas, one side facing the commercial center, and another facing the river, linking this two sides at the same time that this link provides the expansion of distance traveled and known

The use of low quality water for agriculture should be performed with care to avoiding excessive accumulation of salts in the soil so not to harm crop development. In order to evaluate the performance of beets under the infl uence of low water quality, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Universidade Estadual Paulista in Botucatu, Brazil, from April to July 2012. We used the beet (Beta vulgaris L.) in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 5 replications, totaling 30 plots. Treatments consisted of NaCl solutions at different concentrations (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 dS m-1) plus a control treatment corresponding to water with no additional salt and electrical conductivity of roughly 0.26 dS m-1. Variables evaluated were total production, commercial production, plant height, number of plants and root diameter. Production of the beet crop was affected by the increasing salinity of irrigation water, characterized by reduced root production of the beets. Total and commercial production showed reductions of 8.82 and 12.2% in accordance with the unit increase of salinity.
