Kädessäsi oleva opas on laadittu yleisoppaaksi jokaiselle Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulun tutkinto-opiskelijalle ja muille lukijoille opas on hyvä tietolähde. Yleisessä osassa esitetään opiskelijoille perustietoutta Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulusta, opiskelusta ja tutkinnoista. Oppaassa on asiaa koskien jokaista Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulun opiskelijaa, viranomaisyhteistyön koulutusohjelma ja tohtoriopiskelijat mukaan luettuna. Oppaasta löytyy tarpeellista tietoa muun muassa opintohallinnosta, opiskeluoikeuksista ja opintoneuvonnasta sekä toimimisesta Santahaminan sotilasalueella. Yleisen osan lisäksi opiskelijan on tunnettava opinto-oppaan eriytyvät osat ja niihin sisältyvät oman tutkintotasosi opintojaksokuvaukset. Lue opinto-oppaat huolella. Näin saat kokonaisvaltaisen kuvan tulevien vuosiesi työskentelystä ja opintojesi tavoitteista. Yksityiskohtaisempia tietoja saat kurssinjohtajalta, oman tutkintotasosi koulutussuunnittelijalta ja ainelaitoksilta. Oppaaseen on koottu opiskeluun liittyviä tärkeitä yhteystietoja helpottamaan opiskelijan arkea. Oppaasta löytää myös Santahaminan kampusalueen kartan. Jos et saa oppaasta tarvitsemaasi tietoa, tai jos jokin asia jää sinulle epäselväksi, otathan yhteyttä Opintoasiainosaston henkilökuntaan. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of the food dyes sunset yellow, bordeaux red, and tartrazine yellow on the cellular cycle of Allium cepa L. Each dye was evaluated at the doses of 0.4 and 4.0 mL, at the exposure times of 24 and 48 hours in root tip cells of Allium cepa L. Slides were prepared and cells were analyzed during the whole cell cycle for cellular aberrations totaling 5,000 total cells for each dose evaluated. The mitotic index was calculated, and statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-squared test (p < 0.05). The results showed that the three dyes used under the evaluated doses and exposure times were cytotoxic to the cells of the system-test used. Further cytotoxicity studies should be conducted for additional results and a proper evaluation of the effect of these three dyes on a cellular level.

Little is known of the uptake and use of knowledge disseminated in electronic formats, especially in Long Term Care (LTC) settings. The purpose of this descriptive study was to examine the dissemination of the BP Bloggers, a series of brief, evidence summaries designed to meet the knowledge needs of LTC staff. Guided by Rogers’ (2003) Diffusion of Innovations theory, the study documents dissemination of the BP Blogger and examines factors affecting dissemination, awareness, perceptions and its use. The survey of BP Blogger recipients was conducted electronically (n=114) online (n=10), by telephone (n=55), and print (n=144). Managers usually received the newsletter electronically while staff in LTC were more likely to receive printed copies. Participants disseminated the newsletter through paper, email, or posting in the workplace. Most participants rated the content, format, and usefulness of the BP Blogger as good or excellent. Time and lack of email access were barriers to dissemination.

A Pseudomonas sp PS-102 recovered from Muttukkadu brackish water lagoon, situated south of Chennai, showed significant activity against a number of shrimp pathogenic vibrios. Out of the 112 isolates of bacterial pathogens comprising Vibrio harveyi, V. vulnificus, V. parahaemolyticus, V. alginolyticus, V. fluvialis, and Aeromonas spp, 73% were inhibited in vitro by the cell-free culture supernatant of Pseudomonas sp PS-102 isolate. The organism produced yellowish fluorescent pigment on King's B medium, hydrolysed starch and protein, and produced 36.4% siderophore units by CAS assay and 32 μM of catechol siderophores as estimated by Arnow's assay. The PS-102 isolate showed wide ranging environmental tolerance with, temperatures from 25 to 40 °C, pH from 6 to 8, salinity from 0 to 36 ppt, while the antagonistic activity peaked in cultures grown at 30 °C, pH 8.0 and at 5 ppt saline conditions. The antagonistic activity of the culture supernatant was evident even at 30% v / v dilution against V. harveyi. The preliminary studies on the nature of the antibacterial action indicated that the antagonistic principle as heat stable and resistant to proteolytic, lipolytic and amylolytic enzymes. Pseudomonas sp PS 102 was found to be safe to shrimp when PL-9 stage were challenged at 107 CFU ml−1 and by intramuscular injection into of ∼5 g sub-adults shrimp at 105 to 108 CFU. Further, its safety in a mammalian system, tested by its pathogenicity to mice, was also determined and its LD50 to BALB/c mice was found to be 109 CFU. The results of this study indicated that the organism Pseudomonas sp PS 102 could be employed as a potential probiont in shrimp and prawn aquaculture systems for management and control of bacterial infections
