In order to reconstruct regional vegetation changes and local conditions during the fen-bog transition in the Borsteler Moor (northwestern Germany), a sediment core covering the period between 7.1 and 4.5 cal kyrs BP was palynologically in vestigated. The pollen diagram demonstrates the dominance of oak forests and a gradual replacement of trees by raised bog vegetation with the wetter conditions in the Late Atlantic. At ~ 6 cal kyrs BP, the non-pollen palynomorphs (NPP) demonstrate the succession from mesotrophic conditions, clearly indicated by a number of fungal spore types, to oligotrophic conditions, indicated by Sphagnum spores, Bryophytomyces sphagni, and testate amoebae Amphitrema, Assulina and Arcella, etc. Four relatively dry phases during the transition from fen to bog are clearly indicated by the dominance of Calluna and associated fungi as well as by the increase of microcharcoal. Several new NPP types are described and known NPP types are identified. All NPP are discussed in the context of their palaeoecological indicator values.

Trace concerns writing-walking and walking-writing. The multiple voices of both novel and exegesis assemble a rhizomic map of a walk and create a never-entirely-certain wandering look upon a woman walking, rather than a single cocksure gaze. Trace explores the aesthetics of Western walking literature and the various nostalgias inherent in that tradition. Trace wonders how lost a character can become on a walk and whether a walk is itself a kind of becoming. In the undefined liminal space where the urban bleeds into the rural, Trace challenges the singular perspective of the dominating gaze with a wandering look, which aims to make an original contribution to both the walk in literature and to exegetical form.

Objective Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) was compared to wound outcomes in children's burns, to determine if the technology could be used to predict these outcomes. Methods Forty-eight patients with a total of 85 burns were included in the study. Patient median age was 4 years 10 months and scans were taken 0–186 h post-burn using the fast, low-resolution setting on the Moor LDI2 laser Doppler imager. Wounds were managed by standard practice, without taking into account the scan results. Time until complete re-epithelialisation and whether or not grafting and scar management were required were recorded for each wound. If wounds were treated with Silvazine™ or Acticoat™ prior to the scan, this was also recorded. Results The predominant colour of the scan was found to be significantly related to the re-epithelialisation, grafting and scar management outcomes and could be used to predict those outcomes. The prior use of Acticoat™ did not affect the scan relationship to outcomes, however, the use of Silvazine™ did complicate the relationship for light blue and green scanned partial thickness wounds. Scans taken within the 24-h window after-burn also appeared to be accurate predictors of wound outcome. Conclusion Laser Doppler imaging is accurate and effective in a paediatric population with a low-resolution fast-scan.

This professional doctorate included a major research project investigating the efficacy of acting methodologies taught at four leading Australian actor-training institutions - National Institute of Dramatic Art, Queensland University of Technology, Victorian College of the Arts, and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. This study represents the first review of its kind, in which the 'castability' of acting graduates from each of these schools was scrutinized by industry leaders. The study not only reveals the methodologies and philosophies of each school but determines an ideal set of practices for future consideration. The doctorate also included two practice-led projects examining the candidate's transition from actor and teacher of actors to theatre director. The candidate's qualitative study was also underpinned by reflective practice on her extensive professional experience as actor, teacher and director.
