It was on July 1960 when 10 algal balls were acquired for exhibition at Suma Aquarium, Kobe. Permission to remove the specimens from the Lake Akan Reserve was given by the National Nature Reserve Committee. Algal balls, as a rule, lose their natural beauty when they are kept in an ordinary tank for a certain length of time. In an effort to retain the natural beauty it was decided to exhibit them in culture. This paper summarises the findings of this experiments with Cladophora sauteri. The author concludes that serious consideration has to be given as to the intensity of light, the sunlight, the water temperature and the nutrition for algal balls in culture in order to retain the natural beauty and shape.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Cooperative Shark Tagging Program (CSTP) is part of continuing research directed to the study of the biology of large Atlantic sharks. The CSTP was initiated in 1962 at the Sandy Hook Laboratory in New Jersey under the Department of Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). During the late 1950's and early 1960's, sharks were considered a liability to the economy of resort communities, of little or no commercial value, and a detriment to fishermen in areas where sharks might damage expensive fishing gear or reduce catches of more commercially valuable species.

The Lincoln County Historical Council began meeting December 17,1960 under the advisement of the Publicity, Planning and Development Committee of Lincoln County. The group was composed of three members appointed from each of the four existing historical societies: one member appointed from the executive of the Women’s Institute, one member from Lincoln County Council, the Deputy-Clerk and Treasurer of the County and a member from the Niagara Editorial Bureau. The Welland County Historical Council was soon formed after this along the same lines. In the early 1960’s the Lincoln and Welland County historical councils began work on an inventory of historic buildings with the intent to emphasize the historical significance of this area. The information gathered by volunteers and a professional photographer and an architect was used to present a “brief” to the federal government in 1962 and the provincial government in 1963. This brief, An Area of Historical Interest in the Counties of Lincoln and Welland, Ontario was published in 1962 and revised and distributed to schools and libraries in the area in 1965. The Ontario Buildings Inventory Project became a provincial initiative spearheaded by the Department of Public Records and Archives, a branch of the Department of Tourism and Information, ca. 1966. Volunteers collected and photographed buildings of historical interest in Lincoln and Welland counties. This information was recorded on standardized survey forms for every township in the Niagara region. Niagara Regional Historical Council was created with the merger of Lincoln County Historical Council and Welland County Historical Council, at the time of the formation of Niagara Regional Government in 1970. The first meeting of the new council was held January 1970.

Se presenta un Informe sobre la situación del sistema de enseñanza en España durante el curso 1961-62. En primer lugar, se abordan los aspectos relativos a la administración escolar: medidas administrativas, sin novedades; supervisión de la enseñanza; financiación de la enseñanza; construcciones escolares. Se representa a través de una tabla la relación de gastos totales del Estado, organismos autónomos y corporaciones locales en educación y política cultural e investigación científica, durante el año 1960. Además, se representa en otra tabla la estadística de la enseñanza del curso 1960-61 en comparación con el curso 1959-60. Seguidamente, se dan algunos detalles sobre la estructura y organización de la enseñanza. A continuación, se explican los planes de estudios y las reformas introducidas en este curso, los programas y los métodos. En cuanto al capítulo de Personal docente, se habla de la penuria o plétora que sufre el personal docente, la situación laboral de éstos profesionales y los programas de perfeccionamiento. Por último, en el capítulo de servicios auxiliares y extraescolares, se detallan los destinos de las partidas presupuestarias para estos servicios: cantina escolar, ropero, material escolar, colonia y comedor de verano y transporte; además del presupuesto destinado a becas en enseñanzas medias, profesionales, técnicas, superiores y otras enseñanzas.

El artículo analiza la producción historiográfica guayaquileña aparecida en el Boletín del Centro de Investigaciones Históricas. Primeramente, se realiza un acercamiento al contexto sociocultural de la ciudad-puerto entre 1930 y 1960. Seguidamente, se estudia la creación del Centro de Investigaciones Históricas y el aparecimiento del Boletín, la primera publicación especializada en su ámbito, su contenido y los temas que atrajeron la atención de sus colaboradores. Finalmente se explora la influencia de esta institución en las conmemoraciones locales.
