Soluble 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole/poly(o-toluidine) electroactive composite

A poly(o-toluidine) (POT)/2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (DMcT) composite was prepared. When POT and DMcT are mixed in a proper solvent, POT in a medium-oxidation state is reduced, and DMcT in turn is oxidized to its soluble dimer when the molar ratio of DMcT to POT is higher than 0.5. Therefore, the composite was soluble in organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran (THF), dimethylformamide (DMF), and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and exhibited very high electroactivity, two orders of magnitude higher than that of pure POT and three orders of magnitude higher than that of pure DMcT. Molecular-level contact between POT and DMcT is the reason for the improved catalytic effect of POT on DMcT, compared to that of polyaniline on DMcT. (C) 1999 The Electrochemical Society. Photoluminescence study of Langmuir-Blodgett films of blend poly 3-(2-(5-chlorobenzotriazole)ethyl) thiophene

The multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of pr,ly 3-(2-(5-chlorobenzotriazole)ethyl) thiophene (PCBET) blended with amphibious arachidic acid (AA) were prepared and characterized. The photoluminescence intensity of the blend film was enhanced as the AA increased by a certain amount. The PCBET excimers were not formed in the blend LB films.

NMR study of doped poly(2,5-dimethylaniline)

Structure changes and charge transfer in the doping process of poly(2,5-dimethylaniline) (PDMA) were studied by NMR technique. It was shown that not only the polymer chain but also the hydrogen atoms and methyl groups on the aromatic rings were involved in the charge transfer process. A ''four ring BQ derivatives'' model was proposed to explain the NMR results.

ESR STUDY OF SUPERHYPERFINE INTERACTION OF I-127 IN [CU(IO5OH)(2)](5-) ION COMPLEX

ESR method has been used to study superhyperfine. interaction of I-127 in [Cu (IO5OH)(2)](5-) ion for Na4KCu(IO5OH)(2) . 12H(2)O single crystal. The main purpose of this paper is to confirm the existence of unpaired electron spin on iodine atom and to find a reasonable explanation for the spin delocalization of CU2+ ions. Based on the ESR parameters of paramagnetic [Cu(IO5OH)(2)](5-) ions, the calculated results show that about 0.77% of the unpaired eletron spin is located on each iodine atom.

SIMULATION OF THE OXYGEN-ATOM VACANCY IN THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTOR TIBA2CAN-1CUNO2N+2.5(N = 1)

These simulation calculations for the oxygen-atom vacancy in the high temperature superconductor TlBa2Ca(n-1)Cu(n)O2n+2.5(n = 1) have been performed by means of the tight-binding approximation based on the EHMO method. The results indicate that the effect of the oxygen-atom vacancy on the charge distributions at the Tl-, Ba-, Cu- and O-atom sites is appreciably different and that there may exist two kinds of Cu cation with different net charges (approximately + 3.0 or approximately + 1.0) due to the oxygen-atom vacancy in the lattice. The electric field gradient at the site of the oxygen-atom vacancy has been calculated. The position of the oxygen-atom vacancy which favours the high temperature superconductivity of TlBa2Ca(n-1)Cu(n)O2n+2.5(n = 1) has been discussed.

Studies on two coordination polymers [M(mu(4)-pz25dc)](n) (M = Cd or Zn, pz25dc=pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylato) with three-dimensional pillared-layer three-nodal framework: Synthesis, structural characterization, strong optical non-linearities and optical limiting properties

Two isomorphous new candidates [M(mu(4)-pz25dc)](n) (M = Cd, 1; Zn, 2; pz25dc = pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylato)for nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized crystallographically as pillared-layer three-nodal frameworks with one four-connected metal nodes and two crystallographically different four-connected ligand nodes. Their optical non-linearities are measured by the Z-Scan technique with an 8 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm. These two coordination polymers both exhibit strong NLO absorptive abilities [alpha(2) = (63 +/- 6) x 10 (12) mW (1) 1, ( 46 +/- 6) x 10 (11) mW (1) 2] and effective self-focusing performance [n(2) = (67 +/- 5) x 10 (18) 1, (13 +/- 3) x 10 (18) m(2) W (1) 2] in 1.02 x 10 (4) 1 and 1.05 x 10 (4) mol dm (3) 2 DMF solution separately. The values of the limiting threshold are also measured from the optical limiting experimental data.
