[ES]De acuerdo con Pough (1973), los requerimientos metabólicos de un saurio de pequeño tamaño determinan que su dieta deba ser básicamente insectívora. El mismo autor añadía que cuando el lagarto sobrepasa un determinado tamaño esa dieta basada en el consumo exclusivo de artrópodos ya no va a permitirle cubrir sus necesidades energéticas básicas y debe, por eso, buscar alternativas. Aunque en términos generales muchas especies se ajustan bastante bien a estas “reglas” ecofisiológicas, en los últimos 25 años han sido numerosos los trabajos publicados en los que se han recogido ejemplos que contravienen las previsiones de ese modelo, especialmente cuando se trata de lagartos que viven en comunidades insulares (Pérez Mellado & Corti, 1999; Cooper & Vitt, 2002; Espinoza et al., 2004).

[ES] Se describe una nueva especie de tortuga terrestre fósil para la isla de Sal en función de cuatro restos óseos: un fémur, dos huesos del caparazón y un cráneo incluido en una matriz caliza. La nueva especie, relativamente próxima a la actual Geochelone sulcata del Sahel, se caracteriza por presentar un tamaño más pequeño que ésta (longitud del caparazón próxima a los 400 mm) y por ser mucho menos robusta.

Introducción: La hipertensión arterial resistente o refractaria al tratamiento supone un serio problema de salud pública y aunque, no están claros los mecanismos por los que se produce esta resistencia, se sospecha que el consumo de sodio puede jugar un papel importante en el mantenimiento de la misma. Objetivo: Determinar si los pacientes con hipertensión resistente toman sodio oculto en los alimentos ingeridos en su dieta; así como relacionar este consumo con sus hábitos dietéticos. Pacientes y Métodos: Se estudiaron 32 pacientes con una media de edad de 74,25±6,38 años, (65,6% hombres y 34,4% mujeres). Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal mediante entrevista estructurada sobre consumo de alimentos. Se estudió: edad, género, estado civil, presión arterial, responsable de la elaboración de las comidas, índice de masa corporal (IMC), consumo de sodio oculto en la dieta y percepción de los pacientes sobre su consumo de sodio. Resultados: Se encontró una ingesta media real de 3693,56±2330,97 mg de sodio. En el 59,4% de los casos las comidas las elaboraba otra persona diferente al paciente, siendo mayor el consumo de sodio en estos pacientes (3.709,44±529,37 frente a 3.677,69±649,27 mg. Respecto a la percepción sobre la cantidad de sodio ingerida, el 9,4% decían no tomar nada, el 56,3% poco, el 21,9% lo normal y el 12,5% bastante. Los que decían no tomar nada de sodio y lo normal, el mayor aporte lo hacían durante la cena; y los que decían tomar poco sodio y bastante, era en el almuerzo. Se encontró correlación significativa entre ingesta de sodio total e IMC (r=0,411, p & lt0,05). No se encontró relación entre consumo de sodio y hipertensión arterial. Conclusiones: Al menos en la muestra estudiada, no existe relación entre ingesta de sodio y presión arterial; existe una relación directa entre consumo de sodio y la persona que cocina. Por otro lado, la percepción que tienen estos pacientes respecto a su consumo de sodio es adecuada.

This work aims to understand the spatial organization in the Town of Macau, State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. This approach focus on bringing back the history of the town, the main personages responsible for the construction of this place, denominated "social agents", as well as its social processes and the spatial forms derived from them. As the personages and their practices were identified, it was found out the existence of a driving force for structuring, interlocking, and maintaining the actions carried out by the social agents during the time. Such actions were materialized in the urban space: "the social segregation". The social segregation takes place as a specific geography of domination. The outcome of those owning the best areas" and ways of accessibility in the urban space, varies from the enrichment by property valorization, because of the concentration of public investments of infrastructure, to the comfort of easily reaching all the daily needs related to the displacements in the urban space. In the latter case, such facility has contributed to improve life quality. While one takes advantage of the location in the urban space, others are negatively affected by the same process. This research identified the salina worker as the weakest element of this social structure, occupying the urban periphery of the town of Macau. Such area is characterized by the lack of services and urban equipment in opposition to the center of the town, the locus of elite. This way, it is established the most known segregation pattern: center x periphery, in which the space acts as a mechanism of segregation

Introdução: Os consumidores estão cada vez mais exigentes e conscientes do impacto na saúde do consumo de determinados alimentos. O estilo de vida das famílias tem sofrido alterações profundas, traduzindo-se essencialmente na falta de tempo para preparar as refeições. Por esse motivo, recorrem cada vez mais à aquisição de alimentos confecionados ou pré-confecionados. Objetivos: Determinar os teores totais de sal e de gordura de refeições prontas a comer, e avaliar os benefícios/riscos para a saúde da população Portuguesa, tendo por base as recomendações de referência e o consumo destes produtos. Métodos: Foram adquiridas, em 2015, em grandes superfícies da região de Lisboa, 24 refeições prontas a comer, sendo 12 fornecidas por cadeias de fast-food. O teor de sal foi determinado utilizando o método de Charpentier-Volhard. O teor de gordura total foi determinado pelo método de hidrólise ácida, seguido de extração em Soxhlet com éter de petróleo. Os valores obtidos foram comparados com os valores de referência do Regulamento (UE) N.º 1169/2011 e com as orientações da Organização Mundial de Saúde. Resultados: O teor de gordura total das refeições analisadas variou entre 9,70 g/porção (dobrada com feijão branco) e 69,3 g/porção (hambúrguer de carne de vaca com batata frita). Em 75% das refeições analisadas o teor de sal foi superior a 2,5 g/porção, representando mais de 50% da dose diária de referência para o consumo de sal. De uma forma geral, o teor de sal era inferior nas refeições de fast-food comparativamente às outras refeições analisadas. Conclusões: Grande parte das refeições analisadas apresenta um elevado teor de gordura e de sal. Parece recomendável a sua reformulação, no sentido de se tornarem produtos mais saudáveis, promovendo a saúde pública. Num futuro próximo, pretende-se alargar este trabalho de investigação a um maior número de refeições.

The environmental impacts, caused by the solid residues generation, are an often quoted concern nowadays. Some of these residues, which are originated from different human activities, can be fully reused, reducing the effects of the poor waste management on the environment. During the salt production process, the first formed crystals are discarded as industrial waste. This is mainly made of gypsum that is a calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O). The gypsum in question may go through a calcination process due to the plaster (CaSO4.0,5H2O) production and then the application on the cement industry. Considering the necessity of development and application for these industrial wastes, this paper aims to analyze the plaster, called Salgesso, from the gypsum that was generated during the salt production, and its use viability on the civil construction industry in order to create environmental and economical benefits. For characterization, the following experiments were performed: X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (TG/DTG) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with EDS. The following tests were also performed to obtain the mechanical characteristics: Thinness Modulus, Unit Mass, Setting Time and Compressive Resistance. Three commercial plasters used on civil construction were taken as references. All of these tests were performed according to the current standards. It was noticed that although there were some conflicting findings between the salt and commercial plasters in all of the studied properties, the Salgesso has its values within the standard limits. However, there is the possibility to improve them by doing a more effective calcination process. Three commercial plasters, used in construction, were used as reference material. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram testar a eficiência do sal como redutor de estresse e verificar a melhor densidade de transporte de juvenis de tambaqui (Colossoma macropomun) em caixas de plástico adaptadas. No primeiro experimento foram testadas diferentes concentrações de sal de cozinha (NaCl) na água; no segundo, o transporte foi realizado por três horas em caixas de plástico de 200 L estocadas com diferentes densidades de peixe, com 8 g de sal/L de água. O cortisol plasmático dos peixes sofreu aumento significativo após o transporte no tratamento sem sal e com 2 g de sal/L de água, retornando para níveis normais após 96 horas. A glicose plasmática dos peixes sofreu aumento após o transporte em todas as concentrações de sal testadas, com exceção da com 8 g/L de água, retornando para níveis normais em 24 horas. Nos peixes transportados no segundo experimento, com 8 g de sal/L de água, não foi verificada mudança significativa no cortisol plasmático, mas a glicose aumentou significativamente em todas as densidades após o transporte, retornando para níveis normais em 24 horas. Houve mortalidade de 11% em uma das repetições da densidade de 200 kg/m³ de água. Para o transporte com 8 g de sal/L de água, a densidade máxima deve ser de 150 kg/m³ de água. Nesta densidade os parâmetros físico-químicos de qualidade de água se mantêm com características adequadas, as respostas ao estresse são mínimas e não há mortalidade.

Increasing in resolution of numerical weather prediction models has allowed more and more realistic forecasts of atmospheric parameters. Due to the growing variability into predicted fields the traditional verification methods are not always able to describe the model ability because they are based on a grid-point-by-grid-point matching between observation and prediction. Recently, new spatial verification methods have been developed with the aim of show the benefit associated to the high resolution forecast. Nested in among of the MesoVICT international project, the initially aim of this work is to compare the newly tecniques remarking advantages and disadvantages. First of all, the MesoVICT basic examples, represented by synthetic precipitation fields, have been examined. Giving an error evaluation in terms of structure, amplitude and localization of the precipitation fields, the SAL method has been studied more thoroughly respect to the others approaches with its implementation in the core cases of the project. The verification procedure has concerned precipitation fields over central Europe: comparisons between the forecasts performed by the 00z COSMO-2 model and the VERA (Vienna Enhanced Resolution Analysis) have been done. The study of these cases has shown some weaknesses of the methodology examined; in particular has been highlighted the presence of a correlation between the optimal domain size and the extention of the precipitation systems. In order to increase ability of SAL, a subdivision of the original domain in three subdomains has been done and the method has been applied again. Some limits have been found in cases in which at least one of the two domains does not show precipitation. The overall results for the subdomains have been summarized on scatter plots. With the aim to identify systematic errors of the model the variability of the three parameters has been studied for each subdomain.
