The purpose of this research was to do a repeated cross-sectional research on class teachers who study in the 4th year and also graduated at the Faculty of Education, University of Turku between the years of 2000 through 2004. Specifically, seven research questions were addressed to target the main purpose of the study: How do class teacher education masters’ degree senior students and graduates rate “importance; effectiveness; and quality” of training they have received at the Faculty of Education? Are there significant differences between overall ratings of importance; effectiveness and quality of training by year of graduation, sex, and age (for graduates) and sex and age (for senior students)? Is there significant relationship between respondents’ overall ratings of importance; effectiveness and their overall ratings of the quality of training and preparation they have received? Are there significant differences between graduates and senior students about importance, effectiveness, and quality of teacher education programs? And what do teachers’ [Graduates] believe about how increasing work experience has changed their opinions of their preservice training? Moreover the following concepts related to the instructional activities were studied: critical thinking skills, communication skills, attention to ethics, curriculum and instruction (planning), role of teacher and teaching knowledge, assessment skills, attention to continuous professional development, subject matters knowledge, knowledge of learning environment, and using educational technology. Researcher also tried to find influence of some moderator variables e.g. year of graduation, sex, and age on the dependent and independent variables. This study consisted of two questionnaires (a structured likert-scale and an open ended questionnaire). The population in study 1 was all senior students and 2000-2004 class teacher education masters’ degree from the departments of Teacher Education Faculty of Education at University of Turku. Of the 1020 students and graduates the researcher was able to find current addresses of 675 of the subjects and of the 675 graduates contacted, 439 or 66.2 percent responded to the survey. The population in study 2 was all class teachers who graduated from Turku University and now work in the few basic schools (59 Schools) in South- West Finland. 257 teachers answered to the open ended web-based questions. SPSS was used to produce standard deviations; Analysis of Variance; Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r); T-test; ANOVA, Bonferroni post-hoc test; and Polynomial Contrast tests meant to analyze linear trend. An alpha level of .05 was used to determine statistical significance. The results of the study showed that: A majority of the respondents (graduates and students) rated the overall importance, effectiveness and quality of the teacher education programs as important, effective and good. Generally speaking there were only a few significant differences between the cohorts and groups related to the background variables (gender, age). The different cohorts were rating the quality of the programs very similarly but some differences between the cohorts were found in the importance and effectiveness ratings. Graduates of 2001 and 2002 rated the importance of the program significantly higher than 2000 graduates. The effectiveness of the programs was rated significantly higher by 2001 and 2003 graduates than other groups. In spite of these individual differences between cohorts there were no linear trends among the year cohorts in any measure. In respondents’ ratings of the effectiveness of teacher education programs there was significant difference between males and females; females rated it higher than males. There were no significant differences between males’ and females’ ratings of the importance and quality of programs. In the ratings there was only one difference between age groups. Older graduates (35 years or older) rated the importance of the teacher training significantly higher that 25-35 years old graduates. In graduates’ ratings there were positive but relatively low correlations between all variables related to importance, effectiveness and quality of Teacher Education Programs. Generally speaking students’ ratings about importance, effectiveness and quality of teacher education program were very positive. There was only one significant difference related to the background variables. Females rated higher the effectiveness of the program. The comparison of students’ and graduates’ perception about importance, effectiveness, and quality of teacher education programs showed that there were no significant differences between graduates and students in the overall ratings. However there were differences in some individual variables. Students rated higher in importance of “Continuous Professional Development”, effectiveness of “Critical Thinking Skills” and “Using Educational Technology” and quality of “Advice received from the advisor”. Graduates rated higher in importance of “Knowledge of Learning Environment” and effectiveness of “Continuous Professional Development”. According to the qualitative data of study 2 some graduates expressed that their perceptions have not changed about the importance, effectiveness, and quality of training that they received during their study time. They pointed out that teacher education programs have provided them the basic theoretical/formal knowledge and some training of practical routines. However, a majority of the teachers seems to have somewhat critical opinions about the teacher education. These teachers were not satisfied with teacher education programs because they argued that the programs failed to meet their practical demands in different everyday situations of the classroom e.g. in coping with students’ learning difficulties, multiprofessional communication with parents and other professional groups (psychologists and social workers), and classroom management problems. Participants also emphasized more practice oriented knowledge of subject matter, evaluation methods and teachers’ rights and responsibilities. Therefore, they (54.1% of participants) suggested that teacher education departments should provide more practice-based courses and programs as well as closer collaboration between regular schools and teacher education departments in order to fill gap between theory and practice.

This paper reports the method development for the simultaneous determination of methylmercury MeHgþ) and inorganic mercury (iHg) species in seafood samples. The study focused on the extraction and quantification of MeHgþ (the most toxic species) by liquid chromatography coupled to on-line UV irradiation and cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (LC-UV-CV-AFS), using HCl 4 mol/L as the extractant agent. Accuracy of the method has been verified by analysing three certified reference materials and different spiked samples. The values found for total Hg and MeHgþ for the CRMs did not differ significantly from certified values at a 95% confidence level, and recoveries between 85% and 97% for MeHgþ, based on spikes, were achieved. The detection limits (LODs) obtained were 0.001 mg Hg/kg for total mercury, 0.0003 mg Hg/kg for MeHgþ and 0.0004 mg Hg/kg for iHg. The quantification limits (LOQs) established were 0.003 mg Hg/kg for total mercury, 0.0010 mg Hg/kg for MeHgþ and 0.0012 mg Hg/kg for iHg. Precision for each mercury species was established, being 12% in terms of RSD in all cases. Finally, the developed method was applied to 24 seafood samples from different origins and total mercury contents. The concentrations for Total Hg, MeHg and iHg ranged from 0.07 to 2.33, 0.003-2.23 and 0.006-0.085 mg Hg/kg, respectively. The established analytical method allows to obtain results for mercury speciation in less than 1 one hour including both, sample pretreatment and measuring step.

The economical competitiveness of various power plant alternatives is compared. The comparison comprises merely electricity producing power plants. Combined heat and power (CHP) producing power will cover part of the future power deficit in Finland, but also condensing power plants for base load production will be needed. The following types of power plants are studied: nuclear power plant, combined cycle gas turbine plant, coal-fired condensing power plant, peat-fired condensing power plant, wood-fired condensing power plant and wind power plant. The calculations are carried out by using the annuity method with a real interest rate of 5 % per annum and with a fixed price level as of January 2008. With the annual peak load utilization time of 8000 hours (corresponding to a load factor of 91,3 %) the production costs would be for nuclear electricity 35,0 €/MWh, for gas based electricity 59,2 €/MWh and for coal based electricity 64,4 €/MWh, when using a price of 23 €/tonCO2 for the carbon dioxide emission trading. Without emission trading the production cost of gas electricity is 51,2 €/MWh and that of coal electricity 45,7 €/MWh and nuclear remains the same (35,0 €/MWh) In order to study the impact of changes in the input data, a sensitivity analysis has been carried out. It reveals that the advantage of the nuclear power is quite clear. E.g. the nuclear electricity is rather insensitive to the changes of nuclear fuel price, whereas for natural gas alternative the rising trend of gas price causes the greatest risk. Furthermore, increase of emission trading price improves the competitiveness of the nuclear alternative. The competitiveness and payback of the nuclear power investment is studied also as such by using various electricity market prices for determining the revenues generated by the investment. The profitability of the investment is excellent, if the market price of electricity is 50 €/MWh or more.

This report has been written as part of the project “Toward improved quality – developing nurse’s continuing vocational training in hospitals and inpatient units”. Its overall goal is to ensure high quality, ethically appropriate and therapeutically effective interventions to enable nurses to manage distressed and disturbed patients in European psychiatric hospitals and inpatient units. In this large-scale, multinational projects there are all together six European countries involved: Finland, Ireland, England, Portugal, Italy and Lithuania. The project work plan were during autumn 2006 and spring 2007. The content of this publication was produced in the first stage of the project aiming to collect the preliminary source material for the project. The literature review was carried out in the project stage, providing the groundwork for the next steps for the project. This project aims to develop an interactive multinational portal with training material. Therefore, it is important to share an understanding of basic information, psychiatric nurse’s continuing vocational education, laws and ethical codes and patient restriction used in mental health care. In this publication, the purpose of the material produced here is to understand nurses’ educational need related to vocational continuing education and to be used in further project stages as an empirical data collection. The data were collected as a preliminary source material for latter phases where nurse’s perceptions of the current practice, nurse’s attitudes to mental illness, prevalence of use of seclusion room and existing and desired vocational training provision will be collected in six different European countries. The following organisations are involved in this project: University of Turku, Dublin City University, St. Vincent Hospital, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Padova, Klaipeda College - Health Faculty, Klaipeda Psychiatric Hospital, Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa, Centro Hospitalar Psiquiátrico de Lisboa, Omnia Vocational Institution the Espoo Region, Kellokoski psychiatric hospital, Hyvinkää hospital area, Pirkanmaa Hospital District, Kingston University & St. George’s Medical School and South West London & St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. A wide variety of different countries, organisations and individuals in this project give us a strong confidence that theoretical, practical, ethical and political issues around the topic of interest will be taken account during this project lifetime. We are aware the content of this book will be partially outdated almost as soon as it has been published. We still hope that this publication will encourage nurses and different professions working in mental health care field to have a basic understanding of similarities and differences between different European countries related in mental health care. We also hope that this publication will inspirate and motivate nurses in maintaining and developing the quality of psychiatric care in Europe.

BACKGROUND: In 2007, a first survey on undergraduate palliative care teaching in Switzerland has revealed major heterogeneity of palliative care content, allocation of hours and distribution throughout the 6 year curriculum in Swiss medical faculties. This second survey in 2012/13 has been initiated as part of the current Swiss national strategy in palliative care (2010 - 2015) to serve as a longitudinal monitoring instrument and as a basis for redefinition of palliative care learning objectives and curriculum planning in our country. METHODS: As in 2007, a questionnaire was sent to the deans of all five medical faculties in Switzerland in 2012. It consisted of eight sections: basic background information, current content and hours in dedicated palliative care blocks, current palliative care content in other courses, topics related to palliative care presented in other courses, recent attempts at improving palliative care content, palliative care content in examinations, challenges, and overall summary. Content analysis was performed and the results matched with recommendations from the EAPC for undergraduate training in palliative medicine as well as with recommendations from overseas countries. RESULTS: There is a considerable increase in palliative care content, academic teaching staff and hours in all medical faculties compared to 2007. No Swiss medical faculty reaches the range of 40 h dedicated specifically to palliative care as recommended by the EAPC. Topics, teaching methods, distribution throughout different years and compulsory attendance still differ widely. Based on these results, the official Swiss Catalogue of Learning Objectives (SCLO) was complemented with 12 new learning objectives for palliative and end of life care (2013), and a national basic script for palliative care was published (2015). CONCLUSION: Performing periodic surveys of palliative care teaching at national medical faculties has proven to be a useful tool to adapt the national teaching framework and to improve the recognition of palliative medicine as an integral part of medical training.

This article examines how Samuelson defined his own role as an economist as a technical expert, who walked what he called the "middle of the road" to-seemingly-stay out of the realm of politics. As point of entry I discuss the highly tempting offers made by Theodore M. Schultz in the 1940s to come over to Chicago, which Schultz persistently repeated over three years and despite strong Chicago faculty resistance. A contrast between Schultz's own experiences as an economic expert at Iowa State, Samuelson's work as an external consultant for the National Resources Planning Board during the Second World War, and the firm support of the MIT administration for Samuelson's research serves to pinpoint the meaning of being technical for Samuelson, and the relation of the technical economic expert to the realm of politics.

The Faculty of Business and Communication recently started an internationalization process that, in two year’s time, will allow all undergraduate students (studying Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Business and Marketing) to take 25% of their subjects in English using CLIL methodology. Currently, Journalism is the degree course with the greatest percentage of CLIL subjects, for example Current Affairs Workshop, a subject dedicated to analyzing current news using opinion genres. Moreover, because of the lack of other subjects offered in English, ERASMUS students have to take some journalism subjects in order to complete their international passport, and one of the classes they choose is the Current Affairs Workshop. The aim of this paper is to explore how CLIL methodology can be useful for learning journalistic opinion genres (chat-shows, discussions and debates) in a subject where Catalan Communication students –with different levels of English- share their knowledge with European students of other social disciplines. Students work in multidisciplinary groups in which they develop real radio and TV programs, adopting all the roles (moderator, technician, producer and participants), analyzing daily newspapers and other sources to create content, based on current affairs. This paper is based on the participant observation of the lecturers of the subject, who have designed different activities related to journalistic genres, where students can develop their skills according to the role they play in every assignment. Examples of successful lessons will be given, in addition to the results of the course: both positive and negative. Although the objective of the course is to examine professional routines related to opinion genres, and students are not directly graded on their level of English, the Catalan students come to appreciate how they finally overcome their fear of working in a foreign language. This is a basic result of their experience.

“CLIL FAQs: Orientacions per a introduir l’anglès a l’aula universitària” és una publicació oberta dirigida als docents que assumeixen el repte d’introduir una llengua estrangera a l’aula. Es tracta d’un recull d’orientacions sorgides de la pràctica d’un equip interdisciplinari de professors de la Facultat de Ciències de l’Educació de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona en el marc d’un projecte de Millora de la Qualitat Docent (Ref. 2010MQD00132). La publicació exposa una sèrie de preguntes o FAQs (Frequent Asked Questions) que creiem que tot docent CLIL es podria fer abans d’introduir l’anglès a l’aula. El grup de docents implicats en el projecte, després de dissenyar coordinadament una sèrie d’activitats en anglès i d’implantar-les a les seves respectives assignatures, ha elaborat aquest llistat de FAQs que miren de respondre amb reflexions, suggeriments d’acció, estratègies didàctiques, exemples i recursos sorgits de la pròpia experiència. En aquest article situem el projecte en el context català, presentem com es va dur a terme i us expliquem què podeu trobar en la publicació que se’n deriva. A mode de conclusió oferim algunes reflexions del grup sobre el treball en equip interdisciplinari, la introducció del multilingüisme a l’aula, els contextos CLIL i la resposta dels alumnes.

In a 2000 report entitled "Trust in government. Ethics measures in OECD countries," OECD Secretary-General Donald J. Johnston emphasized the fact that public ethics are considered as a keystone of good governance. Moreover, public ethics are a prerequisite to public trust, which is in turn vital not only to any public service, but also to any society in general. At the same time, transparency reforms have flourished over the last few years and have several times been designed as a response to public distrust. Therefore, ethics, transparency and trust are closely linked together in a supposed virtuous circle where transparency works as a factor of better public ethics and leads to more trust in government on the citizens' side. This article explores the links between transparency and levels of trust in 10 countries between 2007 and 2014, using open data indexes and access to information requests as proxies for transparency. A national ranking of transparency, based on requests submitted by citizens to the administration and open data indexes, is then proposed. Key findings show that there is no sharp decline of trust in government in all countries considered in this article, and that transparency and trust in government are not systematically positively associated. Therefore, this article challenges the common assumption, mostly found in the normative literature, about a positive interrelation between the two, where trust in government is conceived as a beneficial effect of administrative transparency.

Hypothesis: The quality of care for chronic patients depends on the collaborative skills of the healthcare providers.1,2 The literature lacks reports of the use of simulation to teach collaborative skills in non-acute care settings. We posit that simulation offers benefits for supporting the development of collaborative practice in non-acute settings. We explored the benefits and challenges of using an Interprofessional Team - Objective Structured Clinical Examination (IT-OSCE) as a formative assessment tool. IT-OSCE is an intervention which involves an interprofessional team of trainees interacting with a simulated patient (SP) enabling them to practice collaborative skills in non-acute care settings.5 A simulated patient are people trained to portray patients in a simulated scenario for educational purposes.6,7 Since interprofessional education (IPE) ultimately aims to provide collaborative patient-centered care.8,9 We sought to promote patient-centeredness in the learning process. Methods: The IT-OSCE was conducted with four trios of students from different professions. The debriefing was co-facilitated by the SP with a faculty. The participants were final-year students in nursing, physiotherapy and medicine. Our research question focused on the introduction of co-facilitated (SP and faculty) debriefing after an IT-OSCE: 1) What are the benefits and challenges of involving the SP during the debriefing? and 2) To evaluate the IT-OSCE, an exploratory case study was used to provide fine grained data 10, 11. Three focus groups were conducted - two with students (n=6; n=5), one with SPs (n=3) and one with faculty (n=4). Audiotapes were transcribed for thematic analysis performed by three researchers, who found a consensus on the final set of themes. Results: The thematic analysis showed little differentiation between SPs, student and faculty perspectives. The analysis of transcripts revealed more particularly, that the SP's co-facilitation during the debriefing of an IT-OSCE proved to be feasible. It was appreciated by all the participants and appeared to value and to promote patient-centeredness in the learning process. The main challenge consisted in SPs feedback, more particularly in how they could report accurate observations to a students' group rather than individual students. Conclusion: In conclusion, SP methodology using an IT-OSCE seems to be a useful and promising way to train collaborative skills, aligning IPE, simulation-based team training in a non-acute care setting and patient-centeredness. We acknowledge the limitations of the study, especially the small sample and consider the exploration of SP-based IPE in non-acute care settings as strength. Multicellular organisms rely on specialized tissues that allow for the controlled exchange of matter with their surrounding. In order to function properly, these tissues need to establish a tight connection between the individual cells to prevent uncontrolled passive diffusion across the extracellular space. In animals, these connections are called tight and adherens junctions and are a critical feature of epithelia. These connections, however, rely on direct protein-protein interaction of plasma membrane proteins of adjacent cells. Such a mechanism is not possible in plants due to the cell wall, which encases the individual cells. In order to absorb nutrients, while simultaneously preventing uncontrolled diffusion between cells, land plants have evolved the root endodermis, which is functionally equivalent to animal epithelia. Its cells are surrounded by a precisely localized and aligned, ring-like lignin deposition, called the Casparian strip, and therefore tightly connected between each other. Very little was known about the development of the endodermis and the Casparian strip until recently. In the meantime, however, we have identified a family of endodermis- specific proteins, the CASPs, which recruits extracellular proteins the specific Casparian strip membrane domain (CSD) to locally synthesize lignin in the cell wall. Yet, we hardly knew any specifics on how the CSD is initially defined and how the critically important CASPs are being recruited to it. We therefore conducted a forward genetic screen on the localization of CASPI-GFP in order to identify novel mutants, which lack a defined CSD. We identified 48 mutants, which fell into 15 different complementation groups. While some of the isolated genes had previously been identified through different approaches, nine novel genes, which had never been implicated in CSD development and maintenance, were identified. One of them, LORD OF THE RINGS 2 (.LOTR2) is described to greater detail in this work. LOTR2 encodes for EX070A1, a protein of the evolutionary conserved exocyst complex. This complex has frequently been implicated in various secretory processes across kingdoms. In Arabidopsis, it transiently defines the positioning of CASPI-GFP. We have performed a detailed analysis of the dynamics of EX070A1 and CASPI-GFP, including studies with other markers and propose a mechanism, by which the cytosolic EX070A1 transiently defines a plasma membrane domain to recruit transmembrane proteins, which then recruit extracellular enzymes for localized cell wall modification. Considering the ubiquitous expression of EX070A1, we think that this mechanism is potentially of importance not only for the endodermis and the Casparian strip but also for many other tissues, in which the cell wall becomes locally modified. In fact, many other tissues with secondary cell wall modifications contain proteins very similar to the CASPs. It will be interesting to see to which degree this mechanism is employed in other tissues. As for the endodermis, we have now identified the first gene, which is not specific to the endodermis but shows endodermis-specific dynamics. This might give us a better insight on how the plant modulates this ubiquitously present factor in a cell- or tissue-type specific manner. Considering the knowledge, mutants and tools, which are available to us for investigating the endodermis, the Casparian strip, the exocyst complex and EX070A1 might be just the right experimental system to address these questions. -- Les organismes multicellulaires dépendent des tissues spécialisé pour l'échange contrôlé entre eux et leur environnement. Pour leur bon fonctionnement, les cellules de ces tissus ont besoin d'être très étroitement assemblés afin de prévenir la diffusion non-contrôlée à travers l'espace extracellulaire. Chez les animaux, ces connexions sont appelées jonctions serrées et jonctions adhérentes. Ces jonctions dépendent des interactions directes entre les protéines des cellules voisines. Ceci n'est pas possible chez les plantes à cause de la paroi cellulaire qui recouvre chaque cellule individuellement. Pour absorber les nutriments et en même temps empêcher la diffusion non-contrôlé entre cellules, les plantes ont évolué 1'endoderme dans la racine, qui est fonctionnellement équivalent aux épithéliums des animaux. Les cellules de l'endoderme sont ceinturées par une déposition de lignine très précisément localisées comme un anneau et alignées entre les cellules, et qui, donc, connecte étroitement les cellules avoisinante: Le cadre de Caspary. Peu était connu sur le développement de l'endoderme et le cadre de Caspaiy jusqu'à il y a quelques années. Récemment, pourtant, nous avons identifié une famille de protéines spécifiques à l'endoderme, les CASPs, qui définissent le domaine membranaire du cadre de Caspaiy (CSD). Les CASPs recrutent les protéines extracellulaires nécessaire à la synthèse du cadre de Caspary vers une région limité dans la paroi cellulaire. Pourtant, on connaît très peu les processus spécifiques concernant la définition initiale du CSD et comment les CASPs, qui ont une importance cruciale, sont recrutées vers ce domaine. Par conséquent nous avons mené un crible génétique sur la localisation du CASPI- GFP, qui sert comme marqueur pour le CSD. Notre but étant d'isoler de nouveaux mutants affectés dans l'établissement du CSD. Nous avons identifié 48 mutants, en 15 groupes de complémentation. Bien que certains des gènes isolés étaient déjà impliqué dans la formation du cadre de Caspary, neuf nouveaux gènes n'ayant jamais été impliqués dans le développement ou la maintenance du CSD ont pu être identifiés. Un de ces gènes, LORD OF THE RINGS2 (LOTR2) sera décrit plus en détail dans cette étude. LOTR2 code pour EX070A1, qui est une protéine, du complexe exocyste. Ce complexe de protéines a très bien été conservé au cours de l'évolution. Il était souvent impliqué dans plusieurs processus de sécrétion dans toutes les branches de la vie. Chez Arabidopsis, EX070A1 définit la position du CSD d'une façon transitoire et recrute CASP1- GFP. Nous avons mené une analyse détaillée des dynamiques d'EX070Al et CASPI-GFP ainsi que, des études avec des autres mutants. Nous proposons un mécanisme, d'après lequel EX070A1, recruté du cytosol, définit un domaine dans la membrane plasmique pour localiser des protéines transmembranaires, ces dernières ensuite recruteront des enzymes extracellulaires pour la modification locale de la paroi cellulaire. Vu qu'EX070A1 est exprimé dans toute dans la plante, nous pensons que ce mécanisme est potentiellement important non seulement pour l'endoderme et le cadre de Caspary, mais aussi pour les autres tissus où la paroi cellulaire doit être localement modifiée. En effet, plusieurs autres tissus contiennent des protéines très similaires aux CASPs. Il serait intéressant de voir à quelle dégrée ce mécanisme est également utilisé dans ces tissues. En ce qui concerne l'endoderme, nous avons maintenant identifié le premier gène qui n'est pas exprimé spécifiquement dans l'endoderme, mais qui montre tout de même une dynamique caractéristique dans ce tissu. Il serait intéressant de voir comment la plante peut moduler ce facteur omniprésent d'une façon spécifique. Vu les connaissances, les mutants et les outils qu'on a maintenant à notre disposition, l'endoderme et son cadre de Caspary, le complexe exocyste et EX070A1 sont probablement des bons systèmes expérimentaux pour étudier ces questions. -- Identification des nouveaux facteurs pendant l'établissement du cadre de Caspary dans l'endoderme. Comme tous les autres organismes multicellulaires, les plantes terrestres dépendent de tissus spécialisés pour l'échange contrôlé avec leur environnement. Ces tissus sont importants pour l'absorption des nutriments mais également pour éviter l'influx de composés toxiques. Chez les plantes, ce tissu se trouve dans la racine. C'est l'endoderme. Grâce au cadre de Caspary, qui permet une forte connexion entre les cellules au niveau de leur paroi, l'endoderme empêche les éléments toxiques d'entrer dans le système vasculaire. Depuis quelques années, nous comprenons de plus en plus la nature et la biosynthèse, ainsi que les protéines impliquées dans l'ancrage des enzymes à la membrane plasmique. Nous n'avons eu, par contre, aucune idée sur le mécanisme qui d'abord définit cet endroit dans la membrane plasmique. Nous avons mené un crible génétique sur la localisation de CASPI-GFP, une protéine, qui recrute les enzymes extracellulaires pour la synthèse du cadre de Caspary. Nous avons identifié plusieurs nouveaux gènes qui sont impliqués dans l'intégrité du cadre de Caspary. L'un de ces gènes est EX070A1, qui est un facteur ayant un rôle important lors de la sécrétion des protéines dans tous les organismes eukaryotes. Ces mutants sont gravement affectés au niveau du cadre de Caspary, mais surtout ils ne sont plus capables de localiser CASPI-GFP. Nous avons suivi la dynamique d'EX070Al et de CASP1-GFP en combinaison avec d'autres marqueurs. Nous avons pu montrer que l'accumulation d'EX070Al est spécifique pour l'endoderme et essentielle pour bien localiser CASPI-GFP et donc, le cadre de Caspary. Ces résultats nous aident à mieux comprendre le développement de l'endoderme mais peuvent potentiellement aussi être utilisés pour étudier les modifications de la paroi cellulaire dans d'autres cellules de la plante.

Human altruism shaped our evolutionary history and pervades social and political life. There are, however, enormous individual differences in altruism. Some people are almost completely selfish, while others display strong altruism, and the factors behind this heterogeneity are only poorly understood. We examine the neuroanatomical basis of these differences with voxel-based morphometry and show that gray matter (GM) volume in the right temporoparietal junction (TPJ) is strongly associated with both individuals' altruism and the individual-specific conditions under which this brain region is recruited during altruistic decision making. Thus, individual differences in GM volume in TPJ not only translate into individual differences in the general propensity to behave altruistically, but they also create a link between brain structure and brain function by indicating the conditions under which individuals are likely to recruit this region when they face a conflict between altruistic and selfish acts.

Se presenta una metodología formativa desarrollada en la asignatura de habilidades sociales de los grados otorgados por la Facultad de Educación Social y Trabajo Social Pere Tarrés de la Universidad Ramón Llull (Barcelona-España). A partir del análisis inicial de las competencias sociales de los estudiantes, se establece un plan de trabajo con la finalidad de que mejoren las habilidades sociales necesarias en el contexto profesional. La metodología se plantea como práctica supervisada que requiere la incorporación del estudiante en la organización, desarrollo y evaluación de la asignatura. Para facilitar esa incorporación se ha introducido un recurso narrativo que da sentido a todas las actividades. Se ha utilizado como indicadores de la validez social de esta metodología los datos recogidos a través encuestas de satisfacción de los estudiantes. Los resultados positivos de la experiencia justifican su difusión y su uso en otras universidades.

Snow avalanches are moving sources of infrasonic and seismic energy. They can be triggered by many different mechanisms that include the shaking produced by earthquakes. The forces induced by an earthquake can cause an increase in the load down the slope and can also decrease the shear strength and both effects can cause the release of an avalanche. This phenomenon represents an important hazard associated with earthquakes in snow-covered mountain areas with high seismicity.
