This work was based on a methodology of development and experimentation, and involved monitoring the dressing operation by processing the acoustic emission and electric power signals to detect the optimal dressing moment. Dressing tests were performed in a surface grinding machine with an aluminium grinding wheel. Dressing analysis software was developed and used to process the signals collected earlier in order to analyse not only the dressing parameters but also the software's ability to indicate the instant when the dressing operation could be concluded. Parameters used in the study of burn in grinding were implemented in order to ascertain if they would also prove efficient in monitoring dressing. A comparative study revealed that some parameters are capable of monitoring the dressing operation. It was possible to verify the parameters effectiveness that today are utilised in burning to monitor dressing as well as to create new parameters for monitoring this operation. The need for a program of work focused on the nuclear data evaluation of chargedparticle reactions has arisen recently due to their increasing use in cancer therapy. This project, as part of that program, has as its main goal the selection and comparison of nuclear data for nuclear reactions induced by protons at low to intermediate energies (E < 250 MeV). The methodology of selection was based on the data base EXFOR and the compilations of radionuclide production cross sections of N. Sobolevsky. For the purpose of comparison and evaluation, theoretical calculations with the reaction model code EMPIRE-II are being used. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.

The central theme of this article is the research in education. The aim is to bring up the contribution developed by Mirian Limoeiro Cardoso in Brazil for the production of knowledge in education, besides the propositions of foreign authors, often used as references to base of the research. The starting point, here described, is the statement that the empirical real is not the object of knowledge, but what is presented as an object to be known, is always the real that, in different forms, is an object involved by theory. Thinking about the research in this view the necessecity of revision of the meaning of the object to be known, the object that is also an educative action in its different and several manifestations and the discussion of its importance for the teachers? and researchers? formation.

We present in this paper a pedagogical-didactic proposal for the teaching of Laplace Probability. The starting point for building the concept of probability is a game situation associated with the methodology of problem-solving. The theoretical reference for the concept of game is constructivist teaching of mathematics. Mathematical knowledge is constructed based on problems that generate new concepts and / or new content. The proposed game is original. Our proposal can be used both in the last cycle of basic education but also in high school, and may inform the practice of teachers who teach basic concepts of probability.

We discuss the knowledge that has been constructed regarding Problem Solving in Math Education as a result of research developed by GTERP - Work and Study Group in Problem Solving, UNESP-Rio Claro/SP. The research is guided by the following general questions: How do students construct mathematical knowledge and how do teachers implement the methodology of Math Teaching-Learning-Evaluation through Problem Solving? Historical aspects of Problem Solving are very important in the configuration of the current trends for Problem Solving. One of them is the Methodology of Math Teaching-Learning- Evaluation through Problem Solving, based on clear foundations and an approach of renewal. In addition to that methodology, two aspects have been developed by the group: The conception of Math as a science of pattern and order and Discrete Mathematics. The knowledge constructed and the scientific production of GTERP prove its relevant contribution to intensifying dialogues between research and educational practice, students and teachers, and to increasing the possibilities of that practice particularly in Math work.

Competitiveness is the basis of economic progress of a country. Innovation is a cornerstone of competitiveness. The competitiveness of the countries has been assessed by studies of competitiveness through a comprehensive set of indicators, which year after year evolve and expand, with the incorporation of new indicators. Stands out in this expansion the integration of new indicators related to sustainability of cities. This short article will explore the concepts of Competitiveness, Innovation and Sustainability, and based on the description of the methodology of two major studies on Competitiveness, will demonstrate the growing importance of sustainability indicators for cities have been given for these studies. To illustrate the results of studies show Brazil. And finally, will seek to highlight the role of Information and Communication in this context. © 2012 AISTI.

Recent searches suggest that social skills and time management as control variables of stress. In order to analyze possible relations between these variables and stress, it was done a descriptive study with a sample of convenience. Eighty three freshmen students, both of gender, of Biology, Civil Engineering and Psychology answered the Stress Inventory (ISSL), Social Skills Inventory (IHS) and a Time Management Inventory adaptation (ADT). It is emphasized that methodology of adaptation, the pro rata system, was not based on high standards of psychometry, which can lead to change of configuration of the instrument and the data it provides. The most of participants were unde rthe media in Social Skills and 72,29% manage badly the time. The stress rate was 48,19%. It was found connection between bad time management and stress and the lack of social skills was associated to bad time management. There wasn't statistic connection between stress and social skills lack. Students in Civil Engineering had the smaller stress rate, as well as the bigger lack of a Social Skills category.
