Determination of plasma levels of citalopram and its demethylated and deaminated metabolites by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Sensitive and specific methods based on gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the determination of levels of citalopram, desmethylcitalopram and didesmethylcitalopram in the plasma of patients treated with citalopram are presented, as well as a GC-MS procedure for the assay of the citalopram propionic acid derivative. After addition of a separate internal standard for each drug, liquid-solvent extraction is used to separate the basic compounds from the acid compounds. The demethylated amines are derivatized with trifluoroacetic anhydride, and the acid metabolite with methyl iodide. GC-MS is performed in the electron impact mode, as mass spectrometry by the (positive-ion) chemical ionization mode (methane and ammonia) appeared to be unsuitable. The limits of quantification were 1 ng/ml for citalopram and desmethylcitalopram and 2 ng/ml for the other metabolites. The correlation coefficients for the calibration curves (range 10-500 ng/ml) were > or = 0.999 for all compounds, whether determined by GC or GC-MS.

Bringing Funds of Family Knowledge to school. The Living Morocco Project (“برغملا شيعلا”)

The purpose of the study, grounded in sociocultural theory, is to describe the funds of knowledge of a Moroccan family living in Catalonia (Spain) in order to document how teachers can use these funds of knowledge to make direct links between students' lives and classroom teaching. The funds of knowledge approach is based on a simple premise: regardless of any socio-economical and sociocultural "deficit" that people may or may not have all families accumulate bodies of beliefs, ideas, skills and abilities based on their experiences (in areas such as their occupation or their religion). The challenge consists in connecting these bodies of educational resources with teaching practice in order to connect the curriculum with students' lives. In doing so, qualitative research can be carried out using several techniques such as self portraits, self-definition tasks, assessment of family artefacts, documenting routines through photographs, or the analysis of a person's significant circle. The results in terms of teaching practices illustrate the variety of ways teachers can make connections between home and school in ways that assist learners in their academic development. Secondary UBVRI-CCD standard stars in the neighbourhood of Landolt standard stars

A list of 681 UBVRI secondary standard stars for CCD photometry is presented. Visual magnitude ranges from 9.7 to 19.4, and the B-V colour index varies from 1.15 to 1.97. The stars are grouped into 11 different fields, each of them is generally observable in a single CCD frame. The stars are located near Landolt UBVRI equatorial standards, accessible to telescopes in both hemispheres, and mainly within the 5 - 8 hours range of right ascension. Photometry, equatorial coordinates and finding charts are provided.

The use of ISO 9001 quality standard in higher education institution libraries

[eng] ISO standard 9001 is one of a set of management tools that libraries have adopted in recent years. This article focuses on libraries in higher education institutions that have received ISO certification of their quality management systems (ISO standard 9001:2000). We examine their reasons for seeking certification and the advantages and difficulties they have encountered in applying this ISO standard. Finally, we consider the future prospects of ISO standard 9001 in university libraries.
