The structural effects of a representative ``disallowed'' conformation of Aib on the 3(10)-helical fold of an octapeptidomimetic are explored. The 1D (H-1, C-13) & 2D NMR, FT-IR and CD data reveal that the octapeptide 1, adopts a 3(10)- helical conformation in solution, as it does in its crystal structure. The C-terminal methyl carboxylate (CO2Me) of 1 was modified into an 1,3-oxazine (Oxa) functional group in the peptidomimetic 2. This modification results in the stabilization of the backbone of the C-terminal Aib (Aib(star)-Oxa) of 2, in a conformation (phi, psi = 180, 0) that is natively disallowed to Aib. Consequent to the presence of this natively disallowed conformation, the 3(10)- helical fold is not disrupted in the body of the peptidomimetic 2. But the structural distortions that do occur in 2 are primarily in residues in the immediate vicinity of the natively disallowed conformation, rather than in the whole peptide body. Non-native electronic effects resulting from modifications in backbone functional groups can be at the origin of stabilizing residues in natively disallowed conformations. The photochemistry of aromatic ketones plays a key role in various physicochemical and biological processes, and solvent polarity can be used to tune their triplet state properties. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of the conformational structure and the solvent polarity induced energy level reordering of the two lowest triplet states of 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PQ) was carried out using nanosecond-time-resolved absorption (ns-TRA), time-resolved resonance Raman (TR3) spectroscopy, and time dependent-density functional theory (TD-DFT) studies. The ns-TRA of PQ in acetonitrile displays two bands in the visible range, and these two bands decay with similar lifetime at least at longer time scales (mu s). Interestingly, TR3 spectra of these two bands indicate that the kinetics are different at shorter time scales (ns), while at longer time scales they followed the kinetics of ns-TRA spectra. Therefore, we report a real-time observation of the thermal equilibrium between the two lowest triplet excited states of PQ assigned to n pi* and pi pi* of which the pi pi* triplet state is formed first through intersystem crossing. Despite the fact that these two states are energetically close and have a similar conformational structure supported by TD-DFT studies, the slow internal conversion (similar to 2 ns) between the T-2(1(3)n pi*) and T-1(1(3)pi pi*) triplet states indicates a barrier. Insights from the singlet excited states of PQ in protic solvents J. Chem. Phys. 2015, 142, 24305] suggest that the lowest n pi* and pi pi* triplet states should undergo hydrogen bond weakening and strengthening, respectively, relative to the ground state, and these mechanisms are substantiated by TD-DFT calculations. We also hypothesize that the different hydrogen bonding mechanisms exhibited by the two lowest singlet and triplet excited states of PQ could influence its ISC mechanism.

Plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy growth of (10-10) m-InN/(10-10) m-GaN was carried out on bare (10-10) m-sapphire substrate. The high resolution X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the orientation of the as-grown films. Nonpolar InN layer was grown at different growth temperatures ranging from 390 degrees C to 440 degrees C and the FWHM of rocking curve revealed good quality film at low temperatures. An in-plane relationship was established for the hetrostructures using phi-scan and a perfect alignment was found for the epilayers. Change of morphology of the films grown at different temperatures was observed using an atomic force microscopy technique showing the smoothest film grown at 400 degrees C. InN optical band gap was found to be vary from 0.79-0.83 eV from absorption spectra. The blue-shift of absorption edge was found to be induced by excess background electron concentration. The solubilities of 10-undecenoic acid and geraniol in supercritical carbon dioxide were measured at 308, 313,323 and 333K, and at pressures of 10-18 MPa. Solubilities (in mole fraction),ranged from 0.4 x 10(-3) to 17.4 x 10(-3) for 10-undecenoic acid and 2.7 x 10(-3) to 25 x 10(-3) for geraniol, respectively. The AARD was around 11% and 5% for these models for 10-undecenoic acid and geraniol, respectively. The solubilities of both compounds showed retrograde behavior wherein the solubilities decrease with temperature at isobaric conditions. The solubility of geraniol was higher than 10-undecenoic acid at all investigated temperatures and pressures. The data were found to be self consistent based on the Mendez-Santiago model. New models based on association theory using van Laar and Margules activity coefficient models for solute in liquid phase were derived, and used to correlate the solubilities. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. The structural evolution and property changes in Nd60Al10Fe20Co10 bulk metallic glass (BMG) upon crystallization are investigated by the ultrasonic method, x-ray diffraction, density measurement, and differential scanning calorimetry. The elastic constants and Debye temperature of the BMG are obtained as a function of annealing temperature. Anomalous changes in ultrasonic velocities, elastic constants, and density are observed between 600–750 K, corresponding to the formation of metastable phases as an intermediate product in the crystallization process. The changes in acoustic velocities, elastic constants, density, and Debye temperature of the BMG relative to its fully crystallized state are much smaller, compared with those of other known BMGs, the differences being attributed to the microstructural feature of the BMG.

利用材料测试系统(MTS)、X-Ray 衍射(XRD)和扫描电镜(SEM)等手段研究了Nd 基大块金属玻璃的变形行为和断裂特征。Nd 基大块金属玻璃样品在室温下是脆性断裂,大约在500 K 时变形模式从非均匀变形转变为均匀变形,在523 K 以上表现出显著的塑性变形。在5×10-4 m/s 的应变速率下,这种Nd 基大块金属玻璃材料在523 K~600 K 之间出现明显的屈服应力下降现象,随后进入1 种稳定的粘性流动状态,而且这种屈服下降现象与温度和应变速率有关。这种在过冷液相区的变形行为与其他大块金属玻璃变形特征相似。合金的这种塑性变形行为表明了其存在稳定的过冷液相区,同时对其变形行为的研究有助于进一步了解Nd 基大块金属玻璃的反常热稳定性。

Nicaragua produce 147,000 lb/mes de subproducto de la pesca del camarón y del pescado los cuales son destinados a la basura. Con e l objetivo de proporcionar un método de conservación que conlleve a utilizar estos desperdicios en la alimentación animal se realizó el presente estudio que consistió camarón, en elaborar tratados microensilajes con subproducto con ácido sulfúrico (5%, del 10%) volumen/peso utilizando de 2 Kg cada uno. 20 microsilos de PVC con capacidad se dividieron en 2 tratamientos evaluándolos a diferentes periodos de tiempo (7, 15, 30, 45 y 60 días), realizándose un DCA con arreglo unifactorial, análisis bromatológicos, determinación de AGV y pH. Todos los ensilados presentaron predominancia de la fermentación láctica, los contenidos de proteína bruta variaron en un rango de 40.70 a 50.20% según los tratamientos. Todos los ensilajes se pueden utilizar a los 7 días después de ensilarse. El tratamiento de menor costo resulto ser el T1 (5% H2so4 ) con 0.56 USA/Kg.

El trabajo se desarrolló de octubre a marzo (1997-1998) en la hacienda Santa Rosa propiedad de la Universidad Nacional Agraria (UNA) en el departamento de Managua. Se evaluó el efecto de cuatro niveles de fertilización completa (12-30-10) y el testigo (sin fertilización) sobre la producción de semillas de Canavalia ensiformis L. Para esto se utilizó un diseño experimental de bloque completo al azar (BCA) y se estudió el efecto de un sólo factor (niveles de fertilización): Con tres repeticiones, formándose un total de 15 parcelas. El ensayo se realizó en un área total de 229.5 m2. Para evaluar las variables: rendimiento de semillas. cantidad promedio de semillas por vainas, largo promedio de vainas, número promedio de vainas por planta y altura de plantas (cm). Teniendo como parcela útil 3 m2. El estudio estadístico contempló el uso de análisis de varianza: El resultado del análisis no mostró diferencia significativa entre bloques ni tratamientos, sin descartar la existencia de diferencias reales. Al realizar el análisis de presupuestos parciales determinamos que el tratamiento de mayor utilidad con respecto al testigo es T2 (24.00 kg/ha) de fertilización 12-30-10. Debemos señalar que este incremento no justifica la aplicación de fertilizante en las condiciones en que se realizó el ensayo ya que la diferencia que se presenta es mínima. La no significancia entre tratamiento se atribuye probablemente al momento de aplicación del fertilizante (al momento de la siembra), que nos hace suponer no fue utilizado por las plantas para la producción de semillas, si no para otras actividades fisiológicas de las mismas.

This paper demonstrates the respective roles that combined index- and gain-coupling play in the overall link performance of distributed feedback (DFB) lasers. Their impacts on both static and dynamic properties such as slope efficiency, resonance frequency, damping rate, and chirp are investigated. Simulation results are compared with experimental data with good agreement. Transmission-oriented optimization is then demonstrated based on a targeted specification. The design tradeoffs are revealed, and it is shown that a modest combination of index- and gain-coupling enables optimum transmission at 10 Gbit/s.

Microcantilever-based biosensors have been found increasing applications in physical, chemical, and biological fields in recent years. When biosensors are used in those fields, surface stress and mass variations due to bio-molecular binding can cause the microcantilever deform or the shift of frequency. These simple biosensors allow biologists to study surface biochemistry on a micro or nano scale and offer new opportunities in developing microscopic biomedical analysis with unique characteristics. To compare and illustrate the influence of the surface stress on the frequency and avoid unnecessary and complicated numerical solution of the resonance frequency, some dimensionless numbers are derived in this paper by making governing equations dimensionless. Meanwhile, in order to analyze the influence of the general surface stress on the frequency, a new model is put forward, and the frequency of the microcantilever is calculated by using the subspace iteration method and the Rayleigh method. The sensitivity of microcantilever is also discussed. (19 refs.)

Bulk metallic glasses of Nd65Al10Fe25-xCox (x=0,5,10) have been prepared in the form of 3 mm diam rods. Results of differential scanning calrimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), and x-ray diffraction are presented for these alloys. It is shown that the glass transition and crystallization have been observed by DMTA. The reduced glass transition temperature of these glasses, defined as the ratio between the glass transition temperature T-g and the melting temperature T-l is in the range from 0.55 to 0.62. All these glasses have a large supercooled liquid region (SLR), ranging from 80 to 130 K. The high value of reduced glass transition temperature and wide SLR agree with their good glass formation ability.

Resumen: Neste estudo, procuramos definir o sentido da corporeidade em Entralgo, relacionando-o com o pensamento de Lévinas. Segundo Entralgo, o corpo humano era um microcosmos integrado num cosmos. Assim, o corpo é i único objecto do Universo, do qual temos um duplo conhecimento não de fora, como também temos a sua percepção a partir de dentro. Porém, segundo Lévinas, a corporeidade é a expressão do Rosto do Outro, referindo- se como uma prefiguração do Outro, que tem o seu epílogo na parábola do Bom Samaritano. Há, na verdade, uma relação de aproximação antropológica entre o sentido do corpo como forma de manifestar o Outro. Em ti e por ti, tu eras uma pessoa, mas sendo tu uma pessoa, podendo e devendo Eu ver-te e tratar-te como tal pessoa. Os dois pensadores apresentam uma referência em relação à pessoas. Segundo Lévinas a pessoa será responsabilidade.
